Actor will hit the big screen again in next month’s ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ with a spate of big-screen parts on the horizon. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Kara Warner Tom Felton in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” Photo: 20th Century Fox Tom Felton may be giving up his bleached-blond Draco Malfoy hair color , but he’s not giving up his “Harry Potter” character’s bad attitude just yet. As “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ was breaking box-office records and opening to critical acclaim over the weekend, Felton was already looking forward to his first post-”Potter” film, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which hits theaters on August 5. And from what he’s told MTV News about the movie’s plot, his “Apes” character has a few things in common with Draco. “My character, he works at a primate facility — I can reveal that — in which … he’s not the nicest of people looking after these lovely creatures,” Felton teased. But that’s not the only project Felton is gearing up for: He finished filming “The Apparition” last year, a thriller that also stars “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene and “Captain America: The First Avenger” actor Sebastian Stan. While “Apparition” isn’t due out until sometime in 2012, the movie is already earning some serious buzz in the online fan communities because it brings together two major movie franchises. Felton has also filmed the sports flick “From the Rough” with Taraji P. Henson and Justin Chon and director Pierre Bagley. Add to that docket two war movies: “Grace and Danger” is currently in pre-production and “Evac” is on the horizon. With films like “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Apparition” on the way, Felton seems to be positioning himself as a viable big-screen presence post-”Potter.” But he seemed genuinely surprise that the opportunity to make another big-budget movie had come so quickly after the end of “Potter.” “It was very exciting for me to go from ‘Harry Potter’ on to ['Rise of the Planet of the Apes'],” he told MTV News. “I didn’t expect to go on to that class of set straight away, so it was hugely exciting. We had a great time making it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘When I found out Mila was going to be naked, I was really sort of like, ‘Ewww, gross,’ ‘ Justin Timberlake jokes to MTV News. By Kara Warner Justin Timberlake in “Friends With Benefits” Photo: Sony Pictures In case you’ve missed them, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis have been involved in a few very clever promotions for their upcoming romantic comedy “Friends With Benefits.” There was their mutual groping at the MTV Movie Awards in June followed by a friendly public service announcement-style video touting the merits of a friends-with-benefits arrangement. And if those efforts haven’t already inspired you to see the film when it opens this weekend, perhaps the knowledge that the two attractive actors spend a lot of their screen time totally naked will increase a few ticket sales. Speaking about said nude scenes — of which there are several that feature a bare Timberlake bottom — the two stars admitted to MTV News that however comfortable they may be with their bodies in private, they weren’t dying to disrobe on camera. “I wasn’t begging [to be naked],” Timberlake said. “When I found out Mila was going to be naked, I was really sort of like, ‘Ewww, gross,’ ” he joked. “But I guess if that’s what it takes to make the movie, then I’ll do it.” “[You are] such a hard worker,” Kunis said, playing along with Timberlake’s joke. “You’re committed.” “I know. I am a hard worker,” Timberlake assured us. “He genuinely believes that [my being naked] was gross,” Kunis added seriously. “Shut up,” Timberlake shot back playfully. “We had a lot of fun making the movie,” he said sincerely. “[But] none of us were begging to be naked.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Friends With Benefits.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Dark of the Moon,’ however, was the first ‘Transformers’ film to have ‘a fully sussed-out script,’ star tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shia LaBeouf Photo: MTV News Give Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf credit for stepping up and admitting their cinematic gaffes. Both guys have owned up to the fact that 2009′s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” despite nabbing more than $830 million at the worldwide box office, did not measure up to their popcorn aspirations. “The second one, we had a tough go,” Bay told us in February about shooting the film in the wake of the writers’ strike. “It was a very, very tough thing to make a movie under those circumstances. It affected a lot of Hollywood at that time.” The key issue was the film was rushed into production without all the creative pieces fully in place; filmmakers had a huge budget but not exactly the clearest idea of the story they were trying to tell. In this sense, LaBeouf told MTV News recently in Moscow, the movie became Bay’s “Apocalypse Now,” the notoriously troubled, Francis Ford Coppola-directed Vietnam War film. “[On] the second movie where we had our hiccups, there were good things, but there were more bad things,” LaBeouf explained, going on to reference the documentary about the “Apocalypse” production. “Before I came out here, I watched ‘Hearts of Darkness.’ And in it, you have Francis Ford Coppola saying to camera, ‘I have too much money, I have no script, and I’m going to shoot myself in the head.’ ” LaBeouf went on to make clear he wasn’t comparing his summer tentpole to that classic war film, only “the conundrum,” as he put it, of undertaking a sprawling project under less-than-organized circumstances. “[It was] very similar in terms of Coppola and Mike on set,” he continued. “And the insanity of the second movie.” Production on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” the third film in the franchise, which hits theaters Wednesday, couldn’t have been more different than the second. “This was the first time we’ve had a fully sussed-out script, with a strong through line and the best plot and arc [LaBeouf's character] Sam has ever had,” the actor said. “And it’s also simple in the places you want it to be and not complicated. I think the second movie you got convoluted, complicated action where you can’t enjoy it. You don’t know whose elbow is what, or whose face is getting impaled. You don’t know who the enemy is, you don’t know who the hero is. You get lost. [Bay] simplified all his action, so that you can thoroughly enjoy it and his simplification of the movie, we benefited greatly from it.” The result, as LaBeouf told us at the MTV Movie Awards, is what he views as the finest installment in the franchise. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be returning for a fourth go-round. Reiterating a sentiment he conveyed to us at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, “Dark of the Moon” will be his final “Transformers” movie . “I’ve learned a great deal from Michael, as a person, as an actor. As a person on his sets, you learn a lot,” he said. “And it’s not that I don’t enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael. I would do any movie Michael wants to do. I just don’t think there’s anywhere to take it Sam.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘I have lived in a complete bubble,’ ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ star tells Vogue. By Eric Ditzian Emma Watson on the July 2011 cover of Vogue Photo: Vogue When we caught up with Emma Watson at the MTV Movie Awards afterparty earlier this month, the 21-year-old Brit confessed, “I’m having the time of my life.” For the first time in her professional career, Watson is free of the all-encompassing “Harry Potter” franchise and has set about creating for herself a cinematic second act — one that has nothing to do with Hogwarts and Hermione Granger. It’s been a long time coming, as the actress admitted in a new Vogue cover story. “I have had no control over my life,” Watson said. “I have lived in a complete bubble. They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it.” The first move she made was signing on to an adaptation of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” a provocative novel about teenage life in America. She also dropped out of Brown University in March, after years of fighting to continue her education while also remaining committed to one of the biggest film franchises on Earth. “I have felt for the last 10 years I have had this battle — I’ve been fighting so hard to have an education. It’s been this uphill struggle,” she said. “I was Warner Bros.’ pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict. I was the one who made life difficult.” Now fully outside the “Potter” bubble, Watson is trying, as she put it, “to really enjoy the good things because it makes the bad things OK.” Among those unwelcome things is the constant attention of the paparazzi. And when she does begin a new relationship (her previous one ended last summer), she hopes the tabloid spotlight won’t spoil the romance. “I’m a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love — and it being more important and special than anything and everything else,” she said. “I would love to not date someone in the same industry as me. Otherwise it becomes what it means to everyone else.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Twilight’ experts point out inconsistencies and omissions in the MTV Movie Awards-debuted sneak peek. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Entertainment On Sunday morning, a few hours before the 2011 MTV Movie Awards went live and while the red carpet at the Gibson Amphitheatre was still a hive of pre-show activity, we welcomed three “Twilight” experts into the fray with a simple assignment: Take an early look at the “Breaking Dawn” teaser trailer, which we would be debuting during the Movie Awards, and let us know what you think. They more than came through. Kara Hassell of TwilightersAnonymous.com , Laura Byrne-Cristiano of TwilightLexicon.com and Kallie Matthews from TwilightSeriesTheories.com analyzed the trailer like only die-hard “Twilight” specialists can. But there was too much info to pack into one story . And now that a few days have passed since the trailer’s debut and the bloggers’ opinions are still fresh in our minds, we have a few lingering questions we want answered in the future. Two Wedding Rings? Early in the trailer, we see Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan wearing a large diamond-incrusted ring — a family heirloom, as explained in the book. But as Matthews pointed out, when Bella notices she is pregnant in the trailer, she is wearing a simple silver band. What gives? Will the two-ring situation be explained? Matthews thinks she knows the answer already. “I’m thinking it’s one of those things where the one ring really is an heirloom,” she told us. “You put it away and wear it on special occasions.” Too Hot for PG-13? Last summer, Summit Entertainment distribution chief Richie Fay assured us that, despite the book’s sex scenes and horror-like elements, the adaptation would not be rated R . That hasn’t stopped online talk, as Byrne-Cristiano put it, that “we’ve got to make this R.” Well, now that we’ve seen the first trailer, it seems regardless of the PG-13 rating, the flick is going to be pretty steamy. Just how hot? Though we’ve gotten a peek — Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen cracking a headboard mid-coitus and the duo taking a honeymoon skinny dip — the real question about the heat factor will have to wait until we glimpse a different scene: the famous one with the feathers . “There are no feathers on the bed,” she noted. “That’s a well-known point that everyone wants. So in that trailer, there are three moments, and there’s got to be another one.” What Else Has Changed? The eagle-eyed Hassell noted two small but significant changes from “New Moon” to “Breaking Dawn.” For one, Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the blond vampire Caius, seems to have a reworked ‘do . “His hair is A-plus!” she said. “A lot better than ‘New Moon.’ ” And Hassell also noted the Volturi’s thrones appear to have gotten a makeover. “It seems like the ones in ‘New Moon’ are more intricate,” she said. “The ones in ‘Breaking Dawn’ are very square and not as ornate.” It’s hard to say what accounts for such changes; the same production designer, for example, worked on both films. But it does raise the question: What else has changed in the world of “Twilight” for these final films? Will We See The Wedding Dress Before Opening Night? While the trailer showed us much more than many predicted — a shirtless Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Bella quizzically examining her pregnant belly — there was one thing we didn’t catch a glimpse of: Bella’s wedding dress. Might we see the gown in a subsequent trailer? Or will Summit hold that back until the film itself? “I’m hoping beyond hope that we get the wedding dress in the next trailer. I’m not holding my breath. I think we’ll have to wait,” said Hassel, adding, “I hope it’s something classic that fits in with [author] Stephenie Meyer’s vision. But Kristen’s gorgeous. She’ll look great in anything.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
‘I’d seen it in my head many times as I closed my eyes,’ Reynolds jokes of Pattison-on-Lautner lip-lock. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson kisses Taylor Lautner at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage In 2009, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards to present the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss. In what would become an ongoing theme over the next few years, “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won the prize. They took the stage to raucous applause and proceeded to tease a reenactment of their onscreen smooch without actually going ahead with the deed. After winning again the next year — and finally puckering up for the crowd — 2011 rolled around and Ryan Reynolds was again picked to hand out the Best Kiss award, this time with “Green Lantern” co-star Blake Lively. Thus both Ryan and Blake had quite a view when, after the Twi-kids once again nabbed the award, Pattinson bounded down from the stage, away from Stewart and into Taylor Lautner’s arms for a seriously unexpected kiss. “I did not know that there would be a ‘Twilight’-on-’Twilight’ kiss,” Reynolds told us days later when we caught up with him at a “Green Lantern” press event. “We had no idea.” Of course, having witnessed the inaugural “Twilight” Best Kiss win, the actor had been imagining something of the sort for years. “I’d seen it in my head many times as I closed my eyes,” Reynolds added. “But that was quite shocking, actually, that he would just run off the stage like that and attack that poor boy.” Lively’s family, for their part, were equally stunned by the smooch — and the unwelcome attention of MTV’s cameras. “My family was sitting behind them,” Lively explained. “They were like, ‘Ooooh!’ They were hiding. They were so shy.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
