Paula Deen Racial Discrimination Lawsuit DISMISSED; Settlement Likely Reached

After doing considerable damage to her empire, the racial and sexual discrimination lawsuit against Paula Deen has now been formally dismissed. It is believed that a confidential settlement was reached. In any case, the suit by Lisa Jackson – which blew up against Deen when she admitted using racial slurs in a deposition, which leaked to the media – is no longer. Jackson, who worked as General Manager at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Georgia, filed a lawsuit claiming racial and sexual harassment. The racial discrimination claim was dismissed by a judge earlier this month because Lisa, who is white, was deemed an “accidental victim” at best. Deen denied any racial discrimination at work or toward Jackson or other employees; her admission of racial slurs pertained to using them in the past. The exact context of the slurs she used is not known, nor is the source of the deposition’s leak, which caused the dominoes to fall fast and hard for Deen. Paula Deen Lawsuit Claim Thrown Out Now the entirety of Jackson’s lawsuit has been dismissed, and while TMZ reports that all signs point to a settlement , any terms appear to be confidential. The deposition video has been blocked by court order and will never be released, so the matter is officially closed, albeit still tinged with controversy. Long story short: any racial slurs made by Deen , or comments that she and her cohorts may or may not have made, were deemed of no consequence. Discrimination of a sexual nature was also disputed by Paula, though we’ll never know how it would have played out, given the apparent settlement. Regardless, it’s rather ironic that Deen’s career took a MASSIVE hit because of a leaked deposition, and not anything alleged in the actual lawsuit.

‘Man Of Steel’ Henry Cavill Reacts To Production Delay

At Comic-Con 2011, actor also tells MTV News about meeting Russell Crowe, his co-star in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Henry Cavill Photo: MTV News SAN DIEGO — Plenty of fans were surprised when news broke that the release date for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, “Man of Steel,” was pushed back six months to June 14, 2013 — but none more so than the would-be superhero himself, Henry Cavill. “They broke it to me gently,” he told MTV News on Saturday (July 23) at San Diego Comic-Con. “I was just told the other day. It’s OK, it’s nothing to do with me. That’s stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job.” Speaking of stepping into the shoes of the iconic superhero — or tights, rather — Cavill said he’s “prepared enough” but anxious to start production. “I’m really raring to go,” he said. “It’s exciting, humbling, and about time to get started.” Of course, Cavill couldn’t divulge many details about the upcoming shoot or what his fellow cast members may or may not be doing in the film, but he did provide a delightful anecdote about his first meeting with co-star Russell Crowe (who is playing his father, Jor-El). Cavill recounted one of the very early days in his acting career when he worked as an extra in a film Crowe was shooting at his school. “I walked up to Russell, shook his hand, and said ‘I’m thinking of becoming an actor. What advice do you have?’ He said to me … No, I won’t say what he said,” Cavil said with a smile, indicating that his response might have included a swear word or two. “Two days later, I received an Aussie rugby jersey, a [CD] and a signed picture from ‘Gladiator’ [with a note that read] ‘Dear Henry, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, Russell.’ Cut to 11 years later, at what is the high point of my career, and here we are.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Man of Steel.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Henry Cavill Calls ‘Superman’ Co-Star Amy Adams ‘Fantastic’

‘Immortals’ actor talks to MTV News at WonderCon in his first on-camera interview since being cast as the Man of Steel. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Henry Cavill at WonderCon 2011 Photo: Getty Images In his first on-camera interview since being cast as Superman in Zack Snyder’s reboot, the new Man of Steel, actor Henry Cavill, chatted about everything from his research for the part to what it will be like working with his Lois Lane, Amy Adams . MTV News caught up with Cavill at WonderCon 2011, where he was promoting his upcoming film “Immortals,” in which he plays a Greek warrior. Turns out Cavill won’t be able to take much of a break after such a daunting role, as he’ll soon gear up to wear Superman’s iconic cape. Cavill said the training for “Superman” will be a “similar kind of thing” to that of “Immortals,” adding, “It’s going to be intense.” Still, it’s not just the physical aspect Cavill will have to focus on: He’ll also have to slip into the psyche of the complex superhero for the tentatively titled “Superman: Man of Steel.” Cavil said he’s done “plenty of comic book research” in order to gather as much information as he can “as to who this man is.” The star explained that by reading the “Superman” comics, he’ll pick up on the “key characteristics” in order to get “a general idea of what he is, and then working from there.” Cavill also opened up about why it was important to stay true to the iconic character, even with Snyder’s new, modern twist. “Superman is Superman, after all. There’s only so much of a change you can make to that,” he said. As he continues to map out how to play the role, he’s already got his leading lady, Amy Adams, lined up and ready to go. It was confirmed a week ago that Adams, fresh off her Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod for “The Fighter,” would play Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane. Cavill, who revealed he’d met with Adams for a screen test, said he was “looking forward to working with” her, calling his newly announced co-star a “fantastic actress, very talented.” He isn’t the only one who’s excited about having Adams tackle the iconic female role. Snyder called her “one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today,” while Margot Kidder , the original Lois Lane, gushed, “She’s a brilliant, wonderful actress! She’s incredible. She’s an extraordinarily accomplished young lady — and gorgeous and full of energy and spirit. She’s so different from part to part, it’s going to be really interesting to see what she does with Lois.” Cavill noted that the age difference between he and Adams (he’s 27, she’s 36) was nothing more than happenstance, saying that making the nine-year difference part of the story line would be for Snyder to decide. Cavill said of the age gap: “I don’t think it matters at all.” Regarding those who argue Adams is too old to star opposite Cavill, Kidder said, “Who cares? What a bizarre thing to be concerned about. She certainly doesn’t look older than him.” Do you think Amy Adams will make a good Lois Lane? Sound off below!
