Finally some good news coming out of Florida … Black Students With Down Syndrome Crowned Homecoming King And Queen Via The Grio reports: Great news was delivered to two students last week who made history as the first-ever seniors with Down syndrome to be crowned homecoming king and queen in Florida. The night marked a momentous occasion for Travjuan Hunter and Semone Adkins, who celebrated with their families after they were announced winners during Friday night’s homecoming football game at West Orange High school in Orange County, Fl. According to WKMG, Hunter and Adkins were among 12 other students up for the honor and the winning candidates were announced based on the number of votes submitted by the school’s student body. The results were kept hidden until the coronation ceremony on the school’s football field where they were later revealed and dubbed Hunter and Adkins as homecoming royalty. The crowd cheered in support. The two students have reportedly been friends for many years — and their parents were overwhelmed by the news and glad they were able to share the honor together. Adkin’s mother, Karen McNeil told WKMG: “It was a dream come true, because I always knew that she was going to be something great in this world and this is just the beginning for us.” You have to be most proud of the students in that school who used this platform to make two exceptional students feel special. Geraldo Rivera’s infamous selfie was the reason Duquesne University canceled his upcoming college speaking engagement, the Fox News host says. He was set to visit the Pittsburgh college for the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination, he tweeted, but that pic of Geraldo Rivera nude nixed the gig. The selfie of Rivera shirtless in front of a mirror with a towel around his waist created an uproar when he tweeted it in July. Duquesne took notice. In a statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , the university said that the photo was “inappropriate and inconsistent” with the Catholic school’s values. Spokesperson Bridget Fare told the newspaper: “We warn our students not to put anything inappropriate on social media because of potential consequences — you could consider this teaching by example.” The decision did not sit well with Geraldo at all. Rivera sounded off on Duquesne , saying that not only was he willing to speak at the school unpaid, he was informed about the cancelation by a third party. A stranger at a hotel bar introduced himself as a panelist at the upcoming event, then broke the news to Geraldo that he’d gotten the chop. Rough. Following the basketball player’s arrest on suspicion of DUI last Friday morning, Khloe reportedly issued her husband an ultimatum: get help or get out . And, according to a new report, Odom has chosen to get out. Way, way out. The estranged couple spoke for a few hours Saturday morning, insiders tell TMZ, but Kardashian sent him on his way, and has heard nothing from him since. She is “totally in the dark” about Odom’s activities over the past few days, one source explains, saying the future of this marriage is growing bleaker each day. But it’s the future of Lamar’s well-being that has most people concerned. Even his alleged drug dealer has even spoken out and expressed grave worry over the athlete’s worsening reliance on substances such as cocaine. Despite the fact that Khloe is not made of steel , she is not letting her crumbling relationship prevent her from having a bit of fun with friends. Michael Douglas is still sporting his wedding ring, and it’s not just symbolic, he says. He wants everyone to know he is still married to Catherine Zeta-Jones. Featured in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, the returning American Idol judge says she was insecure for a long time before finally realizing that her career is a success, “not a fluke.” She added of her change in attitude: “I’m not a mistake – I work my ass off. And I know what I’m doing.” But that doesn’t mean there aren’t missteps along the way. A couple months ago, Lopez got in major trouble for performing in front of totalitarian leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov “I know that being seen as a role model means taking responsibility for all my actions,” she tells the magazing. “I am human, and of course, sometimes I make mistakes But I promise that when I fall, I get back up. When I am wrong, I will learn the lesson and move on to face other challenges. For me, that’s what creating your own life is. Doing your best work while being your best self.” J. Lo is now in a serious relationship with Casper Smart and seemingly could not be any happier. “For me, it’s about having a great partner to walk this life with,” she says. “I have my own high standards for what I want in a partner and how I want to be treated. I bring a lot to the table. I’m not talking about material things but what I have to offer as a person – love and loyalty and all the things that make a good relationship.” This issue of Cosmo hits newsstands on September 10.

Queen Elizabeth Photos: Epic! Badass!

Some truly epic photos of Queen Elizabeth at her beloved Balmoral Estate in Scotland have hit the web, and her majesty has never looked better. Or more badass. The ruler is seen donning the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, as predecessors have for centuries, in an idyllic spot on her land. Monarchies rule. Photographer Julian Calder said of the shot , “we wanted to photograph the Queen as the Queen of Scots and I wanted to do it as a [Sir Henry Raeburn] painting.” “He did paintings of Scottish clan chiefs.” “I thought they were very romantic. In the picture the Queen is obviously looking at us but we wanted to have her looking at the massed clans on the distant hills.” The photograph also shows the Queen wearing the Collar of the Order, made from gold thistles and rue sprigs, and a tiny St. Andrew and his saltire cross. The epic images of the Queen were taken three years ago but has been kept under wraps until Monday, when it was published in Weekend magazine. It is one of 100 portraits in a new book called Keepers, published to mark the 60th anniversary of her Coronation in 2012. Yes, it’s been 61 years. Elizabeth, 87, was 84 at the time of this photograph. Elizabeth agreed to the idea after being approached by the book’s author Alastair Bruce, a Royal commentator and a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce. She approved the idea partly because the late Queen Mother enjoyed the previous two editions and had been photographed as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Top that, Kate Middleton .
