Image via DOCC Diocese Of Brooklyn Settles $27.5 Million Sexual Assault Lawsuit Wow. This is certainly a shock . According to the NYDailyNews , there has been historic lawsuit settlement between the Catholic church and 4 boys who claimed they were sexually abused by their teacher at the Diocese of Brooklyn. This settlement is reportedly the largest that has ever arisen as a result of sexual abuse in the Catholic church. Angelo Serrano worked at St. Lucy-St. Patrick Catholic church from 2003 to 2009 and plead guilty to a inappropriate sexual conduct with a child and was sentenced to 15 years. To make matters worse, the judge also found that two preists, Rev. Frank Shannon and the Rev. Stephen Lynch, had awareness of Serrano’s behavior and did absolutely nothing about it. “Lynch and Shannon had knowledge that for years Serrano often had several boys … sleep over at his apartment,” Justice Loren Baily-Schiffman wrote… Lynch also testified that he saw Serrano kiss an 8- or 9-year-old boy on the lips and “inappropriately embrace” him, according to Saghir. This is likely just the tip of the sexual abuse iceberg for the Catholic church. There has been FAR too much smoke over the years for there to be NO fire. Hopefully this starts a trend where the church is held responsible for whatever part they may have played in allowing this sick s#!t to happen.

According to International Business Times reports , Andrea Contin is under police investigation in northern Italy’s Veneto region, facing allegations of organizing group sex parties and pimping out as many as 15 women on wife-swapping websites. Contin fell under suspicion after three female parishioners complained about the 48-year-old priest. Police discovered pornographic videos hidden in covers bearing the names of past popes, as well as sex toys and videos of orgies INSIDE HIS RECTORY on the San Lazzaro church grounds, according to the Times. Contin’s affairs allegedly included lavish vacations to Croatia, France and Austria with his lovers, including a jaunt to a swingers resort in Cap d’Agde on France’s southern coast. Initially church authorities didn’t consult the police, preferring to conduct their own investigation first. Georgetown University To Offer Preferred Admissions Status To Descendants Of Slaves Georgetown University is attempting to reconcile their horrific past of slavery by offering apologies, memorials and even preferred admissions status to descendants of slaves according to NY Times: Georgetown’s president, John J. DeGioia, who announced the measures in a speech on Thursday afternoon, said he would offer a formal apology, create an institute for the study of slavery and erect a public memorial to the slaves whose labor benefited the institution, including those who were sold in 1838 to help keep the university afloat. In addition, two campus buildings will be renamed — one for an enslaved African-American man and the other for an African-American educator who belonged to a Catholic religious order. Dr. DeGioia’s decision to offer an advantage in admissions to descendants, similar to that offered to the children and grandchildren of alumni, is unprecedented, historians say. The preference will be offered to the descendants of all the slaves whose labor benefited Georgetown, not just the men, women and children sold in 1838. The 1838 sale, worth about $3.3 million in today’s dollars, was organized by two of Georgetown’s early presidents, both Jesuits. A portion of the profit, about $500,000, was used to help pay off Georgetown’s debts at a time when the college was struggling financially. The slaves were uprooted from the Maryland plantations and shipped to estates in Louisiana. Dr. DeGioia said he planned to apologize for the wrongs of the past “within the framework of the Catholic tradition,” by offering what he described as a Mass of reconciliation in partnership with the Jesuit leadership in the United States and the Archdiocese of Washington.
