Alex Trebek: Jeopardy Host Shares "Mind Boggling" Cancer Update

Back in March, we reported on the sad news that beloved Jeopardy host Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer . Today, Trebek is updating fans on his condition. Alex Trebek Cancer Update And even though it’s not phrased in the form a question, we’re happy to accept his response: “It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek says in the video above. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory… some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.” Trebek added that he’s “near remission” which is astonishingly good news, particularly given the disease’s 9 percent survival rate. “I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed toward me and their prayers,” he shared. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.” The nost added: “I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayers, and I will never ever minimize the value of that.” In a previous interview with fellow cancer survivior Robin Roberts, Trebek revealed that his condition has taken a tremendous emotional toll: “What I’m not used to [is] dealing with the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness and it brings tears to my eye, I’ve discovered in this whole episode, ladies and gentlemen, that I’m a bit of a wuss,” he said. As for how his illness has affected his hosting duties, Trebek revealed it hasn’t always been easy: “I taped the show and then I made it to the dressing room on one occasion, just barely, before I writhed in pain and cried in pain,” Trebek recalled. “And I had 15 minutes before the next show. So, I got myself together and spasms of that kind usually last about 10 to 15 minutes. So, all right, here we go again: ‘Anybody got any pain pills?’ And, I don’t like taking pain pills. But I got through it.” Currently, Jeopardy fans are thrilling to an historic run by James Holzauer, who recently passed the $2 million mark to become the show’s second winningest contestant of all time behind the legendary Ken Jennings. From the way things are going, it looks as though James will remain on the show for quite some time. And here’s hoping Alex will be, as well.

These Women Who Would Make Great Hosts Of The Wendy Williams Show

Source: Tom Briglia / Getty Wendy Williams has had a tumultuous 2019 so far. One week, she showed up to film her show with an arm brace on allegedly due to a fall. Then rumors began to swirl that her husband Kevin Hunter was a cheater who often got physical with her . And after returning to her show, viewers noticed that she seemed pretty out of sorts, slurring her words and what not. Needless to say, the daytime queen is taking a much needed break from her hosting duties to focus on her health. Earlier this month, she released a statement saying: “As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment. Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital. Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.” This isn’t the first time Wendy’s health has caused some concern. You may recall that last year, her show went on a three-week hiatus for her to focus on her health after she was diagnosed with Graves Disease. And last October, she fainted on stage after overheating in her Halloween costume. As of January 21, the Wendy Williams Show has aired repeat episodes and planned to produce original episodes with a variety of hosts starting the week of January 28. On January 30th, it was announced that Nick Cannon would be taking over Wendy’s hosting duties. The Wendy Williams Show Instagram page posted the exciting news, writing, “Friend to the show and host of Fox’s The Masked Singer and MTV’s Wild n’ Out, @nickcannon will be guest hosting The Wendy Williams Show on Monday, February 4th, Tuesday, February 5th & Wednesday, February 6th. The new hour long episodes will include Wendy’s staple Hot Topics segment, ‘Ask Wendy,’ celebrity interviews and more!”   Nick has always had several jobs at one time, and now he’s adding more to his plate as a daytime talk show host.  Don’t get us wrong, we love us some Nick Cannon — but there are a few other people who may have done the job just as well. Hit the flip to check it out.

#GrammysSoMale No More: Alicia Keys Announced As The Host For 2019 Grammy Awards

Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Alicia Keys Is Hosting The Grammy Awards This Year Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys is set to host the 2019 Grammy Awards. The singer made the exciting announcement via her very own YouTube channel on Tuesday morning. She will be the first female host of the show in 14 years. “I’m soooo EXCITED to announce that I’ll be hosting the 61st Annual Grammy Awards !! There’s so much in store and I CAN’T WAIT for y’all to see it ALL come to life ” she wrote in the caption of her video. Alicia Keys is only the fifth woman to ever host the Grammys in the show’s 61 year span, and on top of that, she’s only the third woman of color. This gig will also make the first woman to host the show in 14 years, following Queen Latifah in 2005, Rosie O’Donnell in 2000 and 1999, Ellen DeGeneres in 1997 and 1996, and Whoopi Goldberg in 1992. The choice to have a woman host this year is important for the show, especially after controversy during last year’s program. At last year’s Grammys, only six women were nominated in the show’s major categories, and Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive an award during the entire televised portion of the show. Along with the announcement of Keys as 2019’s host, 15 women are nominated in the top four categories this year, compared to only six in 2018. Congrats to Alicia Keys!

James Middleton: Kate’s Brother Goes Public on Instagram, Melts Hearts With Pet Pics

When tabloids and gossip sites report on the Duchess of Cambridge’s siblings, it’s usually Pippa Middleton who’s the center of attention.  And of course, these days, Meghan Markle’s obnoxious siblings are spilling the tea to any outlet that’ll give them the time of day. So it’s no wonder that Kate’s perpetually low-key brother James Middleton often gets overshadowed. But to be fair, it often seems as though James is intentionally eschewing the spotlight. In the early days of his sister’s fame, the 31-year-old understandably attempted to cash in on his newly-marketable last name. Of course, he did so in bizarre fashion by launching a marshmallow company (?!?!) called Boomf. James held the title of Wonka-in-Chief at Boomf (?!?!?!?!), but alas, the fluffy venture was not long for this world. Fortunately, James remains one of the most well-connected people on the planet, so it wasn’t hard for him to line up another sweet (pun intended) gig. These days, James lives on a Scottish estate owned by Pippa’s husband, James Matthews , where he works as a guide and host for visitors. Matthews previously invested several million dollars in Boomf. The situation is further evidence that when you’re as well-connected as James (Middleton) you really can’t mess up. This week, James made his Instagram page public and revealed to the world that he lives an idyllic life surrounded by cute animals. Compare that to when your average peasant loses a bunch of his in-laws’ money on a dumb investment and receives nothing but a thorough ass-kicking for his troubles. But to his credit, it seems that James does actually put work in on his brother-in-law’s estate. In addition to his hosting and caretaking duties, Middleton has trained several animals to work in the UK’s Pets as Therapy program. “Proud of Ella [for] becoming a PAT dog this year,” James wrote. “Animals can provide a sense of calm, comfort, or safety and divert attention away from a stressful situation and toward one that provides pleasure.”  So the guy’s not exactly lighting the world on fire as a mashmallow mogul. He’s still living an enviable life and doing important work.  And he’s still vastly superior in every way to the moron Markles. Of course, that’s true of just about everyone who’s currently drawing breath in the UK. View Slideshow: Pippa Middleton Wedding Dress: All the Photos! All the Info!

Really?! Trevor Noah Hosted An Entire Episode Of ‘The Daily Show’ Without Speaking After Losing His Voice

Source: Ben Gabbe / Getty Trevor Noah Silently Hosted The Daily Show on Tuesday The Daily Show host Trevor Noah appeared on his nightly broadcast Tuesday as he normally does, but this time, he stayed silent throughout the episode. Trevor is battling a vocal issue and was instructed by his doctor not to speak in an effort to avoid needing surgery, which was revealed on the show. Tuesday’s episode began with Noah sitting next to comic Mike Acosta, who addressed the audience on behalf of the host. “You’ve probably noticed that this is a little different,” Acosta said, speaking as the host. “Well, what happened was, over the weekend, I lost my voice.” Acosta read the monologue for Tuesday’s show, while fellow comic Roy Wood Jr. sat down next to Noah for a later segment. Throughout the episode, Noah made hand gestures to go along with whatever his guests were saying to act as if he was still fulfilling his hosting duties. With Trevor on vocal rest, @roywoodjr steps in to report that lame duck Republicans are still on their voter suppression game… a month after the midterm elections. pic.twitter.com/MduyhriVbS — The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) December 5, 2018 The guest hosts did not yet reveal how long Noah is expected to be on vocal rest, or how the hosting duties will be addressed moving forward on the show. Noah was in Johannesburg, South Africa over the weekend to host a Global Citizen concert commemorating Nelson Mandela–which he partly attributes to his voice being completely gone. The 34-year-old further explained his vocal issue in an Instagram post on Tuesday night, adding that he needs to cancel some of his upcoming stand-up gigs. “I thought that my vocal cords were healed but according to the doctor, flying 36 hours and hosting a giant concert in South Africa didn’t help me,” he wrote. “So if I want to get better I have to take it seriously now so that I can perform at 100% on my new tour next year. I hate the idea of canceling shows but I also hate the idea of losing my voice forever so I’m postponing all this year’s stand up shows and working hard on rehabbing the voice.” pic.twitter.com/U75lArqw8w — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) December 5, 2018

Will And Jaden Smith To Donate Water To Flint, Michigan Until Lead Levels Are Down

Celebrities often make headlines for what projects they’re working on, what’s going on in their love lives and what they’re wearing on the red carpet, so it’s nice when they’re in the news for doing something to help others—and Will Smith and his son Jaden are helping out in a big way. #Flint : Will and Jaden Smith Will Donate Water Monthly Until Lead Levels in Schools are Down https://t.co/5rHrmWnTfO pic.twitter.com/cZGl1qdcBD — The Root (@TheRoot) March 6, 2018 The Root is reporting that Will and Jaden Smith are helping out the city of Flint, Michigan, as the father-son duo has committed to providing clean water to local schools in the area until lead levels are down significantly. The water provided will be from the company they started together called Just Water. Via The Root: Just Water, an eco-friendly water company started by celebrity father-son duo [Will and Jaden Smith], donated 9,200 bottles of water to the city and will continue to do so on a monthly basis until lead levels in the water at Flint public schools are below the federal threshold. Just Water CEO Ira Laufer told MLive that the donation was a “no-brainer.” “This just makes sense for us to do,” Laufer said. “Jada Smith has visited Flint and met with the mayor. Flint is very dear to her heart. … After reading more about [Flint’s] challenges and the mayor objecting to pulling bottled water from the schools, we thought ‘Let’s help these kids.’” Laufer [said] that the Smith family is “aware of the Flint donation and very excited.” Just Water was founded by the Smiths in 2015. Its packaging is crafted from almost all-renewable sources, and Laufer said that its water comes from an ethically sourced model contributing to the economy in Glenn Falls, N.Y. [The company] sent four pallets of water to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan on March 1. Meanwhile, Flint schools had initial tests conducted back in February that showed lead levels were below the federal action limit, however, five of nine elementary schools had at least one test that exceeded that threshold. Over the last 18 months, Flint’s water supply has tested within federal guidelines for lead, but residents are still strongly cautioned to use bottled water and/or faucet filters as a precaution against further contamination.   Check out today’s Top Stories here: Black North Carolina Bus Driver Arrested For Threatening To ‘Shoot Up’ School To Help Trump Betty Shelby, The Cop Who Killed Terence Crutcher, Is Back To Work
