Despite the fact that Roseanne literally never speaks on Mo’Nique or her personal causes in any interview she ever gives, Mo felt it necessary to throw her support and defense behind the disgraced comedienne once again. When talking about her former nightly talk show on BET, Mo’Nique broached the topic of her “sister in comedy” and explained that she could never turn her back on Roseanne, claiming that she didn’t hesitate to appear on the show while many Black entertainers declined because her show was “too black.” And when she showed up, when the cameras weren’t rolling, she said to me: “Listen, you’re the real deal. Don’t let them use you up and take advantage of you, because they will. Don’t you let them do that to you.” Now, a racist woman ain’t gonna say that to me. Q: But her tweets were blatantly racist. A: I’m gonna say this: We’re comedians. And I know her. And what she thought was funny, as a comedian, that’s what it was. The interviewer then challenged her on the way she was quick to chastise Charlamagne for “spreading poison” during her now-infamous Breakfast Club interview …but doesn’t seem to want to condemn something as poisonous as racist ‘jokes’ that fall flat. To this, Mo’Nique responded: A: When we talked privately — and we’ve talked privately a lot — she’ll break her jokes down and I’ll know where they’re coming from. She’s like, “Listen, you know how I grew up, so how could I start making fun of anybody? I’m not trying to hurt anybody.”. Has she ever said, “Kill black people”? Q: I don’t think that’s the line someone has to cross in order for their words to be racist. A: And I can’t argue with what you’re saying — I can’t, baby! But here’s what I know about this woman: She was behind the scenes fighting for the black (concert) promoters. Nobody knows that. She’s behind the scenes trying to push a documentary about Malcolm X with a brother who’s a Muslim. So when I know about this these things personally, did my sista say some things in poor taste? Some people could say yes. But what I won’t label her is a racist. When she sends me a DM that says, “My love, we will rise again like the Phoenix” — a racist woman wouldn’t do that, would she? Hm…we certainly didn’t see Roseanne picking up her sword and shield for Mo’Nique when she was on her “pay me more as a Black female comedian” tour against Netflix …but hey, she’s keeping her same energy in defense of her “sister.” Do you think she has a point? Kehlani Talks Queerness And Motherhood With Nylon Kehlani shocked her fans and the industry when she popped up pregnant about a month ago . The singer has received all sorts of head-scratches and commentary since then, largely because her sexuality has been so publicly fluid…and nobody even realized she had a man at the time. As Kehlani covers this month’s issue of NYLON Magazine (alongside a spread she did just one day before announcing her pregnancy with no one on set even realizing she was knocked up), she gets into all the energy she’s received surrounding her romantic interests and taps into the excitement of new motherhood. I’ve gotten everything from “I thought she was a lesbian” to “she was using queerness to promote her career, then went and betrayed us with a man” to “her baby father is just a sperm donor.” One, I never identified as a lesbian. I’ve always been pansexual. My first mixtape included songs about males, and songs about women. My first album had songs about a nonbinary ex, an intersex ex, and male/female exes. I don’t always make it a point to identify pronouns in the music because that isn’t the focal point. I think what steered everyone in the direction of categorizing my sexuality (which is still really narrow-minded) was my song “Honey,” and a couple of the features I’d done after. Although she doesn’t want to define her sexuality in any concrete terms to make others comfortable, she’s VERY clear on what motherhood means to her and what it should mean for other young people pursuing parenthood. My overall dreams and goals for my life are to love to the highest limits one can experience love. The highest forms of happiness, and graciousness. I believe creating life is one of the highest forms of love! I’m accomplishing one of my biggest goals as we speak. Make sure this is what you want for unselfish reasons. It’s unfair to bring a child in the world with the burden and unspoken task of mending you, a relationship, or improving your happiness. Although a child will usually naturally bring a deeper meaning of happiness into your life, that isn’t the sole reason for that child’s existence. This is about them. She’s also a big proponent for all-natural birth. Given the plight Black women face when dealing with medical professionals , she believes it’s important to take control of your own childbirth process. People, especially black women, are dying at very high rates from hospital complications and medical malpractice (or just f*cking blatant racism). People have been giving birth naturally for ages, obviously, way before hospitals existed. Way before machinery, way before all these procedures. Your uterus, and vagina, are built and designed for birth. You deserve to be in charge of your birth, to be comfortable and listened to, not rushed or prodded at. You deserve to feel 100 percent at peace with full support, in the driver’s seat and not the backseat. This is your body, your baby, your ceremony. VH1 Releases A Super Trailer For “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle” We’ve already told you all about T.I. being Letoya Luckett’s first boyfriend, Toya being none too pleased about Reginae dating a 27-year-old rapper with four kids and T.I. being accused of cheating on Tiny — but now the super trailer for VH1’s “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle” brings it all together — with so much more. Last night, BET Networks brought a Brooklyn experience to Chicago to celebrate the premiere of their new reality series, “ Hustle In Brooklyn .” The theme of the event was truly felt by guests as BET activated the space to include scenes reminiscent of a Brooklyn neighborhood including a brownstone stoop, bodega with Hustle In Brooklyn magazines of each cast member, street lights and signs, newspaper stands and even distributing New York City metro cards with the Hustle In Brooklyn logo. Cast members Santos , Eva and Azia spoke to the crowd about their excitement for the show, their individual hustles and what makes Brooklyn such a remarkable place. Attendees experienced a memorable night complete with Brooklyn décor, specialty cocktails named Notorious and Nutcracker, hors d’oeuvres including mini Juniors cheesecakes, and music provided by Vic Lloyd . Eva, an aspiring New York-based comedienne, also entertained with a hilarious comedy set much to everyone’s delight. It was a huge upset and now the mayor of Tallahassee, Florida is tightening the race against his Republican opponent Ron DeSantis. However, Gillum is temporarily suspending his campaign activity—but don’t fret, it’s for all the right reasons. The election is on November 6 and things are looking promising for Gillum to make history. A Sept. 28-30 P ublic Policy Polling (PPP) showed Gillum up by 4 points over DeSantis. Quinnipiac University poll had Gillum out-polling DeSantis by 9 points. However, we all know how polls can be wrong, let’s not forget the polls that convinced people Hillary Clinton would win. The state deadline to register to vote in Florida is tomorrow. If you, your friends, or family members aren’t registered, do it now, especially if you are outraged by the Stand Your Ground laws. In the Democratic primary, Gillum was the first candidate to come out against Stand Your Ground, calling for Florida Gov. Rick Scott to suspend the law, which he never did.
