Exclusive: 13-Year-Old Star Kyliegh Curran Gets Her “Shine” On In “Doctor Sleep”

Source: Photo by GP Images/Getty Images for Warner Bros. Canad Exclusive Kyliegh Curran Interview At only 13, “Doctor Sleep” star Kyliegh Curran is set to become an instant Horror icon with her dazzling performance in the long-awaited, highly anticipated sequel to Stephen King’s quintessential classic “The Shining.” She plays adorably spunky wonder kid “Abra Stone” who “shines” like the all-grown-up-and-liquored-up “Danny Torrance” (Ewan McGregor) who’s desperate to piece together his shattered life years after his psychotic pop went axe-crazy at the Stanley Hotel. Together, they battle a sinister (and strangely snazzy) evil in mind-bending scenes carried entirely by our new fave 8th grader who gushed about her spooky debut in a cackle-filled interview at the very creepy and very haunted Highland Inn in midtown Atlanta. (But first, check out the trailer if you haven’t already) Did you see the original (“The Shining”)? “Yes, four times!” How did that go? Well, I watched the first time right before the call back, actually, and I remember (laughs) my mom said, ‘No! I am not going to watch that with you’ and I was hiding behind my dad’s back the whole time because the suspense was just so sickening because you are just waiting for the first jump scare — and then BANG! When the title card hits you, it’s like a drug. Then the second time was at a special showing, the third time was for fun with my best friend Jerry, and then the fourth time was at a movie theater with my family. Really? This movie is not funny (nervous laugh) “Well, in some moments it can be so scary that you have to laugh. If you don’t laugh, then you will cry.” This movie is old, though. It’s older than both of us. So, what’s the difference between watching it and knowing it’s old versus making the movie that you’re making now. The graphics… it’s kind of grainy . “Well I drew a lot from both, mostly Wendy’s character and young Jenny. And then a lot from the book — mostly from the book because this is a standalone film and it’s just the adaptation of the book, but yea, I drew a lot from Wendy’s character definitely and watching it really helped me out.” You said you auditioned. How did that go? Bring me to the beginning? “Well, I was fresh out of summer camp and I got this 10-page long, thick, thick, thick audition and I barely had any time to get it done. So, I wasn’t even off-book. We just taped it and sent it in and I was not very confident. I did not think I was gonna get a call back. Then a month later I got a call back! And I spent two days with my acting coach perfecting the character we drew as much as we could. But, it was a pretty big script so we did the best we could. We sent it in. I felt much better about it and a week later Mr. Mike, the director, calls my mom and says ‘Hey! We would love Kyleigh to come and read with Mr. Ewan.’ Oh my gosh, the nerves just started building up and building up and building up like a tower, and I was doing this weird twitch thing. Oh, it was so nerve-racking! But when I walked in to the room, all my nerves just melted away because the people were so kind and chill and just laid back. Ugh, they’re so amazing and I read with Mr. Ewan and I hoped that what I did was enough to book the role. And, I was sitting in school one day — my mom had been working in the same school as me — and she came knocking on the door and my teacher said ‘Hey, your mom’s at the door!’ Oh, I got so nervous. I said to myself ‘Ok, this is a yes or a no. This is very nerve-racking but don’t fret.’ And so I walked out and my mom said ‘Kylie, you’re gonna be in the movie!’ And we were jumping all over the place, screaming ‘Oh my gosh, yes!’ And my classmates were just pressed up against the window, like ‘What is she doing?’ And when I walked back I had messy hair, my face was all red, I was sweating and I couldn’t tell anyone. I felt so proud of myself in that moment. I was like ‘Finally, you waited for this for so long and your hard work has paid off. Yay!” For so long? You’re only 13. “Well, since I was 7. I’d been auditioning and auditioning and it’s really a test to your confidence and your patience and self-esteem when you keep getting ‘no,’ getting so close in an audition and then losing it. It’s really just kind of depressing. But, then, once you book something it’s like this wave of relief and you feel so much better.” I feel it. I’m excited. I’m about to go audition for something… I don’t know what it’s going to be. So, working with Mr. Ewan, how was that? “He’s amazing. He’s like a big teddy bear. He’s so great to talk to and he’s a great listener and I really enjoyed working with him. Watching him work is fascinating, how he just takes on his character so seamlessly. It’s amazing. And, he’s also very good at chess. I would not challenge him in chess.” What did you learn from him? What’s the #1 thing? “Well, his guidance was probably watching him, definitely mirroring how he acts, and building a relationship out of the characters really helped us build a relationship WITH our characters — how our chemistry worked.” What was the spookiest part about making this? Were you actually ever scared making this? “No. I was mostly just excited. I kept living in the moment, kept thinking ‘Wow, this is super exciting. This is so amazing.’ But I also had a little bit of a tether, so I was able to pull myself back down to my character and not completely freak out. But, yeah, it wasn’t very scary. It was more of an exciting experience.” It’s funny that you say that because this movie is — “Terrifying. Yeah.” Now, Stephen King. Did you read the book? “Yes.” And how did that go? “Oh it was disturbing. I had nightmares for days. But I was able to just leave it at the door, drop it, and just keep working. I’m really happy I did because now I’ve got a grip on how horribly evil the True Knot are and how Abra projects her energy against them, how she feels about them, and that really helped me with chemistry with everyone and how Abra is. So, I’m very happy that I read the book but I’m also very upset that I did (laughs).” If you’re going to do roles in the future, would you read the book or would you just go off of the script. “It depends on what the book is about. If it’s something super iconic, then I’ve gotta read the book. If it’s something that maybe it’s more a new movie and it’s slightly off a book, then I’d probably just go off the script so I don’t completely go off the book. And, if it’s a remake of an old movie, I probably wouldn’t watch the old movie so I wouldn’t copy or mirror the person I’m playing.” And as far as scary movies, you said your mom didn’t want to watch “The Shining” with you, so do you watch scary movies like that? “Yes! I love Jordan Peele! He’s a genius! I love Horror movies. I watched a lot of the old Stephen King ones. I watched “Carrie,” I watched “Pet Sematary,” “The Shining.” “Carrie” was, whew, that was freaky. “Pet Sematary,” the newer one was pretty disturbing.” You’re only 13 though… (Laughs). I couldn’t even watch these movies until I was 17. What else? Was that it? “There’s a lot of things I can’t even remember. Oh, It! I love It so much. My favorite Stephen King movies, those were amazing.” You’re not scared of clowns? “Nope. They’re funny. Well, I mean I did not appreciate Pennywise eating children. So that was definitely… I did not like that, no one would like that. But when he was shaking his head around I couldn’t stop thinking about my sisters or me shaking my head around in white face paint and a red nose like ‘bahhhh!’ It was too funny to me. But, it was also so disturbing.” You’re about to be a star. How does that feel? Your classmates know that you’re in the movie now. “Well, I’m homeschooled. But I never really thought about being a star or anything. I just thought ‘Wow this is a really cool experience. I’m in a movie. This is super cool. This is super exciting.” It hasn’t hit you yet? “No, not really. It hadn’t hit me that this was such a huge movie until August and now I’m super nervous, but being a star never really hit my head.” OK, I’ll check back in two weeks. “Well, we’ll see (laughs).” If you could use your power in real life, would you use it for good or bad? “For both. I would cast hexes and be a little vengeful, sometimes, towards my sister’s enemies and then towards my enemies maybe. And then for good, I would eradicate all single-use plastics and multiple things. Just grab them all in a ball and incinerate them.” — “Doctor Sleep” scares its way into theaters this weekend!

Excellence: Steven Reed Makes History As Montgomery, Alabama’s First Black Mayor In 200 Year History

A LOT of positivity… Steven Reed Becomes Montgomery’s First Black Mayor A brotha just made history in Alabama in a major way! Steven Reed, a Probate Judge, is Montgomery, Alabama’s first Black Mayor. Reed is replacing current Mayor Todd Strange and won with 67 percent of the votes. He will be sworn into office on Nov. 12. “If there was any doubt about what we can do when we come together, when we unify this city, let the record show tonight, above all, show what we can do when we come together in this city and we build around positivity, around opportunity and all the things that tie us together,” said Reed about his victory according to WSFA. When asked why he thought his campaign resonated with voters, Reed said it was the vision for a united Montgomery. “I think our vision for a better Montgomery. Our vision for a united Montgomery, and our vision to create better opportunities for everyone and I believe our concise vision that was very consistent from the day one is something a lot of people listened to,” Reed said. “I believe people really were attracted to that. They really were interested in some of our ideas and that energy and that enthusiasm that we felt so many days in the community is going to churches, going to community centers, going to neighborhood programs, we felt the energy there and we felt that energy in some unlikely corners for some. So we knew the message was resonating, and we knew that somewhere along the line, we knew that we were making a difference and that we were connecting, and I think that’s why we had the results that we had tonight.” Reed’s win marks the first time in Montgomery’s 200 years that a black Mayor has been elected. It’s especially significant because Montgomery was once called the “cradle of the Confederacy.” Montgomery, Alabama, once known as the cradle of the Confederacy and later the birthplace of the civil rights movement, has elected Steven Reed as its first African American mayor in the city's 200-year history. https://t.co/PjcVnDIRzj pic.twitter.com/898HkTThcj — ABC News (@ABC) October 9, 2019 Congrats to Mayor Reed!

SMH: Lil Wayne Cancels Tour Stop In St. Louis Tour After Getting Kicked Out Of His Hotel

Source: Star Tribune via Getty Images / Getty Lil Wayne Gets Kicked Out Of The Ritz-Carlton And Cancels His Concert Lil Wayne was scheduled to join Blink-182 for a concert in St. Louis on Saturday night, but the rapper announced on his Twitter page that he’ll be skipping the show instead. This joint tour with Blink-182 seems to be a troubled one for Wayne, as this isn’t the first time he’s has run into troubles and possible cancellations. This time, the rapper is telling fans that police and the Ritz-Carlton are responsible. Weezy took to social media to explain that he wouldn’t be performing on Saturday night after being kicked out of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in St. Louis. “Sorry not doing the show tonight in St Lou kuz I was just kik’d out the Ritz and 12 got involve so I gotta slide,” the rapper tweeted, breaking news to fans. “Tht y’all f w me out here. Dam slime. It’s all luv tho.” Sorry not doing the show tonight in St Lou kuz I was just kik’d out the ritz and 12 got involve so I gotta slide. Tht y’all f w me out here. Dam slime. It’s all luv tho — Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) September 14, 2019 It’s still not clear why police got involved and ended up cutting Wayne’s stay short, but apparently the situation was enough to stop him from performing at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre later that night. He assured fans later on that he will still be performing in Cincinnati as scheduled on Monday. Katch me in Cincinnati Monday !! Luv! — Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) September 14, 2019 The venue confirmed later on Saturday that Wayne would not be in the building, but the show still went on with Blink-182. This hiccup on tour isn’t the first problem Weezy has had while touring recently. Back in July, Lil Wayne cut his set short and warned fans that it “might” be his last stop on the tour with the Blink-182. He later clarified that he would not drop out of the tour and said, “I’m having too much fun with my bros.” Later that same month, he canceled his Tampa  performance last-minute.

And The Bride Wore Black…Bridal Designs From Pantora Bridal

My husband and I decided to get married at the court house before having a bigger, more traditional and more expensive wedding in my hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. For my courthouse wedding, I purchased a beautiful dress from a local New York designer D. Auxilly in early July. She was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was prompt, professional and after I purchased the dress, she made sure it fit perfectly to my body. Honestly, 10/10 recommend. Her work is impeccable. Alla this stuff right here: My Mama @carol_of_the_wells A post shared by Veronica R. Wells-Puoane (@vdubshrug) on Oct 26, 2018 at 5:10pm PDT So I thought I would return to her for my big ceremony dress. But towards the end of the month, Pantora Bridal announced, via their Instagram page that they were having a sample sale. Years ago, a former coworker told me about this Black-owned bridal shop in BrookIyn before I even started dating my husband. And I stored the name in my phone and followed them on Instagram years later. And while I had been swooning over their work since  I pressed that follow button, I was hesitant about even going because I had already committed to D. Auxilly. And I assumed that most of their dresses which are ornate and unique would be out of my price range. But my sister, who is the real MVP of this story, told me that I should at least check it out. So on July 28, 2018, the date of sample sale, my sister and I made the hour + long journey from Harlem to Brooklyn. Y’all know the summer in New York is no joke and we stood outside in a short line that had formed outside of the store’s entrance. In case you didn’t pick up on my subtlety earlier, it was hot y’all. And I was truly concerned about being a sweaty, stinky mess by the time I was trying dresses on. Thankfully, the air was blasting once I got inside. And it’s important to mention that the energy of the staff was also excited and welcoming. And there was water. Thankfully, the other brides didn’t do a the frantic mad dash to the racks you sometimes see on bridal tv shows. Now, in retrospect, it seemed like everything happened at lightening speed now. But seriously within 10-15 minutes of looking, my sister found an option. It was a heavily beaded and sequined gown that featured a deep v-neck in the front and a partially exposed back. There was a mesh panel covering the skin on both sides. But what set this dress apart was the fact that it had a cape which was also beaded. I loved it. For year, again before I met my husband, my mother made her mother of the bride wishes explicitly clear. She wanted me in a princess gown, complete with the poofy bottom and all. I’m short. Like 5’1.5 and not only was I not interested in being swallowed up by a dress, I wanted to be able to show my shape. But after my sister found the first dress, I stumbled upon another one. It was poofy like my momma wanted but what made it so different was the fact that the top was entirely mesh. It had small sequins organized in diamond shapes across the front and jeweled accents on the straps and on the back of the dress that formed into the shape of a heart. The layers of tulle at the bottom didn’t dissuade me from having to try it on. Plus, it didn’t hurt that as I was admiring it, the shop owner and designer Andrea Campbell showed me a picture of how stunning the dress looked on an actual person. With those two options, my sister and I sat down, waiting for the next available consultant to see us. In that time, I realized I didn’t wear underwear that day and made a detour to Rainbow. The consultant later told me that most women don’t wear underwear to their fittings but I wanted to be as considerate as possible. I decided to try the poofy dress on first because it would likely take the most time. Source: Vanessa Wells / Vanessa Wells Source: Vanessa Wells / Vanessa Wells Source: Vanessa Wells / Vanessa Wells It was beautiful. My mom, who lives in my hometown, couldn’t be there so we Facetimed her. Seeing me in that big gown was all she needed and she immediately started crying. I would include that image but she was in the midst of doing her hair. So I’ll save her the embarrassment of looking “unfinished” on the internet. But here are a few pics my sister took of me trying this dress on for the first time. Again, this was not what I planned for myself. But when I didn’t want to take the dress off, I knew I had to have it. But I still had another option to consider: the caped dress my sister chose. Source: Vanessa Wells / Vanessa Wells Source: Vanessa Wells / Vanessa Wells I loved that one too. And that’s when I started to panic. I had to make a decision. Seeing the indecision and stress on my face, my consultant asked me what I was thinking. I told her I loved both dresses and didn’t know which one to choose. That’s when she asked me my budget. To be honest, I had gone back and forth about how much I wanted to spend on a dress. There was a part of me that simply wanted to save money. But my sister told me something one day that really. A friend of ours told her that as unique as I am, I couldn’t have a dress that didn’t match that. I told the consultant that I didn’t want to spend any more than $3,000. She told me that with the sale prices of both of those dresses, the total for two of them was $2,900. Boom! I could get both–which was something I’d always imagined doing but put out of my mind once I started taking note of how expensive weddings are. We said yes to the dresses and made our way back to Harlem. It was a triumphant day. Source: Vanessa Wells / Pantora Bridal Staff Later, my mother in law and my new Aunt said that they wanted to have a dress made for me in my husband’s ethnic group’s traditional color/pattern. My sister sent my measurements and they mailed me a mermaid-shaped dress. I decided to accessorize it with a show-stopping, statement necklace from Aphia Sakyi , who I had seen featured on singer Ledisi and after I purchased my own, Ciara, Janet Jackson and one of the members of EnVogue. After three rounds of alterations appointments for the two Pantora gowns, an additional alteration for the South African one, concealer for my areolas and some nipple covers, you can see how it all came together on the following pages.

Aside From Their Ups & Downs On The Show, The Women Of ‘Eurphoria’ Are Absolutely Killing It Right Now

Excerpt from:

Source: Frazer Harrison / Getty The Actresses From Euphoria Are KILLING IT Both On And Off Screen If you’re not watching Euphoria right now, then you’re not only missing out on a pretty unique series–but you’re also missing a really great new group of talent that’s bursting onto the scene along with the success of the show. Everyone knows and loves Zendaya , and as the star of the show, there’s no doubt that a lot of people first decided to check out the series because of her role as Rue . Beside a few other big names like Eric Dane from Grey’s Anatomy , a lot of lesser-known models, actresses, and influencers are making their television debut with their roles on Euphoria –and they’re absolutely killing it. Before Alexa Demie was known for her role on Euphoria , she had smaller roles on series like Ray Donovan , Marina in Love , and in films including Mid90’s and Waves . Now, she’s taking over our screens every Sunday with her portrayal of the perfectly imperfect Maddy Perez , who manages to both win over the audience’s heart and piss them off at the same time. In real life, she’s always posting immaculate photos onto her Instagram page and just gifted us with her personal ’90s glam tutorial via Vogue’s Youtube channel. Her makeup looks on and offscreen have everyone talking and after her success on the first season of Euphoria , we’re sure to see her in a lot more roles moving forward. Barbie Ferreira is another actress from the show whose built herself a real cult following online–but she wasn’t exactly unknown before hitting the small screen. On Euphoria , Barbie portrays Kat Hernandez , a girl who goes from losing her virginity to developing a whole new sexual persona entirely–a lot of which has to do with discovering that men actually find her fuller figure attractive. Even though this is her first major acting gig, the world has known Barbie for a while now because of her work as a plus size model. As someone whose been advocating for body positivity for such a long time offscreen, there’s no better person to go through that journey as Kat on Euphoria . Yet another breakthrough star who found their first acting gig in Euphoria is Hunter Schafer . Always sharing screen time with someone like Zendaya–whose been in the industry since she was a child–has to be tough, but she’s so good, you’d never know this is her first time learning lines. Offscreen, she lights up any room she walks into with her light-hearted and completely calm personality. Going from the world of modeling into a starring role on a TV show can’t be easy, and even though her role as a trans person on TV shows increasing diversity, she still makes sure to vocalize her privilege while advocating for others, including trans people of color. There are so many other women on the series that are absolutely killing it in their roles on Euphoria including Maude Apatow , Sydney Sweeney , and Storm Reid . It’s clear from their interactions online that these girls have built a real sisterhood with each other while making this series, and with season 2 already in the works, it’s going to make for even better on-screen chemistry when new episodes roll around. It’s refreshing to see a major HBO production hire up-and-coming talent instead of tapping into the same talent pool already floating around so many Hollywood productions. Now that these women have made such an impression on fans, it’ll be exciting what avenues they get into next. View this post on Instagram To everyone in this photo, I’m honored and proud to be standing next to you. Love you kids @euphoria A post shared by Zendaya (@zendaya) on Jun 6, 2019 at 1:07pm PDT

HELLO WORLD: 7 Things You Need To Know Before Going To Cabo San Lucas

More:

Source: Rob Atherton / EyeEm / Getty Summer season is upon us and recently I’ve been seeing extremely cheap fares from the East Coast to Cabo San Lucas. Though it’s property of Mexico, Cabo is located at the tip of California and has beautiful beaches and waves perfect for those that like to surf. This destination is very popular amongst Californians and a luxury vacation destination for Mexicans. If you love Vegas, you will love Cabo. Cabo is more for poolside posing, with most of the resort beaches being too rough to actually go swimming. The resorts are gorgeous and each one has there own special thing to offer. If you are more of a go with the flow type of individual, there are some important things to know in advanced regarding your trip to Cabo. I’ve also added some of my personal “must do’s” when you are on the island. YOU DON’T NEED PESOS Source: Laura Reid / Getty I had a layover in Mexico City and was planning to take a taxi to the resort and meet my girlfriend. I changed about $80.00 USD into pesos to make sure I could cover the cab. I had been to St. Maarten the week before and there were no Ubers and the taxi’s only took cash, so I wanted to make sure I had some on hand. I arrived in Cabo International Airport and everything was in USD (also pricing in pesos). I was able to secure a shuttle for $17 USD to the resort. Your resort will want to charge everything to your room and most places take credit cards, so you don’t have to carry a ton of cash. THERE IS A LOT OF SECURITY The interesting thing I found regarding Cabo is how much security there is. When entering a resort, even through an Uber, they take your name, the license plate, the name of the driver, and where you are coming from (or going). I went with two of my girlfriends and at no point did I feel in danger. We went out downtown and even as we were trying to cross a busy street, security popped out of nowhere to help. While I did feel safe, this overabundance of security made me wonder just what I was being protected from . IT’S A GROUP THING Source: Ruth Cenat / Courtesy of Danielle James There are some places that are great for solo travel and then there are some that are better for groups. Cabo isn’t a solo vacation type of place. You can feel safe going there with friends or family; however, I don’t recommend going to Cabo alone, only because it’s so many groups that you might not meet people. During Memorial Day Weekend we saw couples, families, and one bachelorette party. I was a bit disappointed as I hoped to meet more people, but I had a great time with my girls. IT’S RESORT DRIVEN The resorts are set up so you never feel the need to leave. There were several places we went to dinner and they were all placed on other resorts. I found it surprising that there wasn’t more advertisement for good food in stand alone places that weren’t adjacent to a resort. WHERE TO STAY Source: Ruth Cenat / Courtesy of Danielle James We stayed at two different resorts and visited about 5 in total during our stay. I would highly recommend the two we stayed at: Sheraton x Garza Blanca . The Sheraton had great food and an old world feel. The resort is absolutely beautiful and if you are looking for a wedding location, the courtyard of this place would be gorgeous. It was also the only resort where I saw people surfing. The resort was lively with lots of guests ranging from families to couples and friends. The room was incredible. We stayed in a duplex and each room minus the top floor had it’s own balcony or balcony access. View this post on Instagram My thickness is their weakness. #WCW : @reeceebuttercup or @kerimichelled A post shared by Danielle (@theislandiva) on May 29, 2019 at 6:08am PDT Garza Blanca was chosen by my friend who accompanied me on the trip. The hotel opened in January so is currently having a “soft opening” through the Summer. If you want a bit of a discount yet a luxury stay, definitely check this out. With Garza Blanca, it’s about 15-20 minutes from downtown so you aren’t in Cabo directly, but not far from the action. At time of publication, the spa has yet to open and they are still building the other half of the property. However, the pools are nice (and heated!) and we had a great time taking advantage of the cabanas directly on the beach. We stayed in an “ultra suite” which was absolutely gorgeous. It had a jacuzzi, a wrap around balcony, and each room had it’s own shower and bathtub. Online, this room is running for a little over $500/night, but worth it amongst friends. As mentioned, most things happen at other resorts, so we also visited Pueblo Bonito resort. This resort is huge, consisting of actually 3 properties in one. Monte Cristo, which is up in the hills and consists of villas. Then there is Sunset, which is the largest of them all and hosts everyone, and Pacifica, which is adults only and down on the beach with a little over 100 rooms. This resort was fantastic and the most inclusive out of all the resorts I visited. Because the spa wasn’t finished in my hotel, I visited the spa here and boy was it an experience! WHERE TO EAT Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Captain Tony’s The best place I ate during my stay was at Captain Tony’s, which is downtown right on the marina. I went on a Friday night where there was a live band and an even livelier staff. We did get a bit lost in the Uber. You literally have to get out of the car and walk on the dock to get to the restaurant. The restaurant is right on the dock making it great for both people and boat watching. The food was out of this world. Seriously. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Captain Tony’s For an appetizer, we had sushi and everything tasted so fresh. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Captain Tony’s The guacamole was some of the best I have ever eaten and was made fresh for you at the table. The drinks were great and they have something for everyone including strong mixed drinks, a bevy of beers, and frozen drinks that put Wet Willie’s to shame. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Captain Tony’s I had the whole fried red snapper and it was seasoned to absolute perfection. Another cool thing about the restaurant is that it also services boats with food who are heading out for the day. Also, whatever catch you bring back to shore, Captain Tony’s will cook it up right for you! This restaurant should be on everyone’s radar in Cabo. It’s great for families, couples, whomever! Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with the food in Cabo San Lucas. We went to the El Farallon. Everyone raved about this place. The views are incredible looking over a cliff. The experience is first class. You essentially pick your meal out before you even sit down and the first stop is the champagne bar. I would do this place for drinks, but not again for dinner. The food was bland and underwhelming for the almost $200.00 price tag/person. WHERE TO RELAX If you get bored of bountiful beach views or grow tired of lounging by the pool, you might want to think about booking a spa service. Remember when I discussed visiting Pueblo Bonito resort? Well, their spa is known as being one of the best in Cabo San Lucas and it didn’t disappoint. Source: Ruth Cenat / Courtesy of Danielle James The property is massive and walking to the spa, the minute you enter the grounds, you can feel the energy shift to one of relaxation and good vibes. There is a garden like area with a fountain and to the right is Armonia Spa . The general manager explained, “Our main purpose is that your guests experience the spa circuit, facilities and services we offer. They will feel pampered from check in until they finish their service.” You walk into the spa and check in. To the left, there is an area where you can buy products. They have skincare items and also great aromatherapy items. My friend bought several room sprays. They have lots of organic and multi-treatments for guests. The general manager explained, “We developed the Organic Collection from the beginning and test every product. We started with the 3 Body Rituals and then we continued with teh facial, manicure, pedicure, and massage. The line was developed for a wellness purpose, the ingredients help the body, mind and spirit and offer an emotional and spiritual healing.” For my actual treatment, I got the Detoxifying Organic Ritual. I have only had one body scrub before and this gives you a body scrub and a massage all in one. The session begins with an exotic exfoliation featuring dead sea salts, juniper, laurel and jojoba essential oils that help leave your skin smooth and silky. Then a honey and aloe mask is applied to help with the detoxification and after you are all cleansed and washed you move into another room for a reductive and anti-cellulite massage. It was one of the most lovely experiences ever and I felt relaxed for days to come. They use quality ingredients and give your first class service from the minute you step into the spa. I’d recommend this spa whether you are staying on the property or not. You simply have to call to make an appointment. Afterward, I went back to the market hall at Sunset and had a lovely afternoon meal. Overall, Cabo San Lucas is a trip to go if you just feel like staying on a resort or relaxing with friends. I think this would make a great couples trip as well. It is beautiful, but a beautiful beach where you can’t swim in the water? That’s not my idea of a vacation. Cabo is expensive so be prepared to spend money. It’s also designed for you to stay on your resort so you have to make it a point if you want to jump around. There are also no direct flights from NYC, so the layover in Mexico City made for a longer travel experience. The travel length combined with the cost and the extra safety (I like to feel safe enough to go off the beaten path), hasn’t made Cabo a place I would necessarily go back. I would want to visit restaurants that locals go to and do activities off the beach, but it’s not that kind of town. If you are more mature and just want a relaxing vacation, Cabo is definitely for you. If you are a couple and just want some relaxation and alone time, Cabo would be a great vacation. It’s a good girls’ trip if you aren’t trying to find a turn up. Have you been to Cabo? Tell me about your experience in the comment section.
