MODEL MONDAY: Eugena Washington Is Moving Beyond The Camera And Ready To Empty Her Best Self Into The World

Source: Dave Kotinsky / Photo by Dave Kotinsky/Getty Images for Harper’s Bazaar) Name: Eugena Washington  IG: @EugenaWashington   Agency: InnovativeArtists NY l LA Claim to Fame: Eugena stole our hearts with her supple skin and sharp cheekbones in cycle seven of America’s Next Top Model. Since then she has stayed in the spotlight appearing on Time Squares billboards, soap operas, and even won Playmate of the Year.    Type ‘Eugena Washington 2016’ into Google and you’ll find them: Crisp images of a Brown skinned beauty beaming beside one of the most controversial figures in American history, flanked by others of her striking a sexy pose beside a cream convertible quickly fill up the white space. With shining skin and radiant, raven hued hair, she is confident, she is beautiful, she is Playmate of the Year. She is also deeply unhappy.   “ The thing about modeling is that it’s completely superficial,” she told Hello Beautifu l in an exclusive Interview.  “It’s the only job the only career that’s completely superficial based on what you look like. Based on what you look like, they can tell you yes or no. With that being said you can be the most perfect, the most amazing, you can be at your very best and then you’ll get ‘Nos’ all around just because.”   Source: Photo by Phillip Faraone/WireImage / Photo by Phillip Faraone/WireImage She admitted that the constant rejection and the “toxic” culture upheld by less than ethical people impacted her greatly. “When I first started modeling I told myself that I would only do this until it made me feel bad about myself, like I didn’t want to do it if it was going to be something that was going to lower my self-esteem, lower my self-worth, and make me feel bad about myself you know, and ultimately start making you hate yourself. As I went on modeling it slowly started to do that.” The only solution to feeling like the industry was in control of her self-worth was proving to herself that she was strong enough to walk away from it. Source: Photo by Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Playboy “I took about a year off in 2017 to really just reconnect with myself and silence all the noise. I really had to stop and take some time off and recover myself and decide to decide that I’m great regardless. Like that’s the choice that you have to make. So for me now, it’s about knowing who I am, getting in touch with who I am, and deciding that I am amazing regardless of what anybody thinks.” Modeling afforded Washington many opportunities including the chance to travel to Barcelona and Cape Town, which she described as “the most majestic place I have ever been to in my life,” but she wasn’t prepared to make her entire life about the profession. Washington opted to return to the modeling industry but on terms that satisfied her ambitions beyond the runway. For a long time I felt that I couldn’t do that because you’ll gain weight and it will be hard to match your measurements.” Nevertheless, the industry is changing. Model Chanel Iman has had a child and a successful career while Slick Woods literally went into labor while backstage at the Fenty x Savage show in 2019 . Models as moms are becoming more of a norm and less of a phenomenon or sign of a career ending.  “When I realized that I have control of my life and I can decide what I want and everything will fall into place anyway, I gave myself permission to have those dreams and goals outside of my profession,” Washington shared.  The joy in her voice is evident as she speaks about the possibilities of living without restriction. “ I just want to have fun! I want to have a fun life outside of business all the time and working and obligations.” View this post on Instagram @danessa_myricks is legendary and you’re blessed if she touches your face. ThankYou LoveYou A post shared by EUGENA (@eugenawashington) on Oct 10, 2018 at 7:50am PDT   She chose to work with people that fit her career and personal goals instead of contorting herself into the industry mold. “I chose them because they work with me, they believe in me and that they push me and that’s what it takes to be successful somebody who believes in you and pushes you and wants to work with you. Like all the names and hype and stuff, you could be sitting IMG’s board and not doing shit because they don’t believe in you.” She was selective when she opted to step back in front of the camera.   “I’ve been modeling ever since the show, I’ve been through so many agencies girl it’s just about who works for you and who works with you. Each agency looks for something different and if we’re honest we’re just dealing with people,” she added. “I had to work that out too and it took me a while to learn that because I thought it was about the name, if I get with this name and that name then I’ll…but no! People can shelve you. I’ve been shelved but I’ve also been pushed.” View this post on Instagram Mmmmhmmm… Mua: @jordanliberty Photo: @juliakuzmenko A post shared by EUGENA (@eugenawashington) on Jul 14, 2018 at 11:28am PDT She is careful about the kind of people that she allows in her space duly protective of the peace that accompanies her evolved perspective at work and at play.  “I learned I had a lot of toxic people around me and I didn’t know how. I was just like trying to heal and save everybody and trying to be nice.”  Being socialized to be the “nice girl” had consequences when she found it difficult to speak up for herself or even be honest with herself. She said she had to learn to say “I don’t like this” or “This doesn’t make me feel good”. It was tough for her “saying how I feel and being okay with saying how I feel and being okay with my anger and being okay with someone not liking me and using my power and my strength.”  View this post on Instagram I think it's gone be shoulders all summer @louieaguila @iamkevinwade @queenwink A post shared by EUGENA (@eugenawashington) on May 26, 2018 at 12:34pm PDT “My mom was always like ‘Just be a nice person,’ I was just trying to be a nice person, I thought that’s all you had to do. So I didn’t really have my guard up.” That guard stands tall now, “I had to stop being nice. That’s the journey I’m on right now, developing my inner bitch because people will be like ‘Oh you’re so pretty, I can just disrespect you and treat you like you ain’t shit and treat you like you’re dumb and you’re just a pretty model.’ And I would just internalize like ‘You know what? This person is hurting so let me just internalize that.’  No. I don’t have to take anything! How dare you talk to me crazy ’cause you’re a nobody. No one’s above me and I had to realize that. I had to take control of my life I had to boss up and find my inner bitch.”   Evidence that her belief in herself stands strong can be found in her willingness to come out of her comfort zone. She has started developing a haircare line and a podcast . “That was a way for me to establish myself in a different way where I wasn’t just basically relying on how I look because that also gets old. You know? There other parts of me! I have other talents and there other ambitions.”   Today, she is proud to say, “I get my self worth from other places.”   View this post on Instagram Everything you've ever wanted is yours. She said she plans to, “ Empty my best self out to the world.” “It helps me heal by helping other people heal because when I’m talking to you about what I’ve learned I’m also getting more downloads and answers.” She wants to offer support, “ Because I didn’t have it,” and says she relates to the conversations on social media about the perils of being “the strong friend.”  “It was hard because I’ve been through a lot of shit. You know when you just go through one thing after another? I had to take my way through and not be taken over. I was in an abusive relationship. I had an abortion when I was in my early twenties. So in those situations I didn’t have the guidance to help me navigate through those situations I had to just use my common sense and consider how to move forward in the best way possible. I was kind of overwhelmed so I had to take some time off and kind of heal some things in myself. And in that time of healing it was like I’ve figured out these things I’ve rectified them for myself and I’m not ashamed of them so I might as well talk about them.”  View this post on Instagram October, you so pretty…. A post shared by EUGENA (@eugenawashington) on Oct 1, 2019 at 8:57am PDT She isn’t afraid of some of the backlash that public figures have gotten for being raw about their feelings and emotions.  “I’ve always felt like if people are watching me you might as well give them a show and if you give them a show then that means you’re in charge of the narrative, and I’m not a shy person either. I feel like if you tell somebody your business they can’t come back and throw it in your face because you already told them what it was so that’s kind of what it is for me.”  After years of using her looks she is excited about what will happen when she opens her mouth.  “Instead of hiding away from the things that I’ve been through and learned from and overcame I stood out in front of them because its my story regardless.” DON’T MISS: MODEL MONDAY: Cheyenne Maya-Carty Skated Into Her Dreams MODEL MONDAY: Nyakim Gatwech Is A Model With A Message For Black Girls MODEL MONDAY: Nicque Marina Went From The Air Force To Fashion Week By Following MadameNoire [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3063794″ overlay=”true”]

Kate Beckinsale Nudity Playing with her Pussy Cat of the Day

Kate Beckinsale is old as shit – in terms of being a woman you want to jerk off to – despite you jerking off to her – cuz you love vampire movies she starred in – and the fact she hasn’t rotted out….but is still hot….she knows how to work it. She is not old as shit in terms of having a 20 year old daughter in College though, cuz I guess she was always a dick loving slut who liked her pussy filled with cum more than she liked abortions…so a lot of her mom friends are probably older than her and that probably makes her feel good about herself….but not as good as the feedback she gets from being slutty at 46 on social media – now that she has a direct line to the creeps who jerk off to her – likely creeps she has laughed at or was grossed out by but now find sweet cuz they stuck it out with her… She is a rich, she grew up rich and in the industry, so this is just what rich and connected people do at 45 – when they are sluts. Her dad was famous, he died when she was 5 and that gave her the daddy issues we need…to get behavior like this for the last 40 years of her life…so thanks for that Mr Beckinsale….sacrificing your life so that an empty shell of a woman can use her body to fill that void… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! MODEL MONDAY: Youtuber Turned Model Chizi Duru Wants To Advocate For Pay Transparency Amongst Influencers

See the article here:

Source: Wendy Ngala / Wendy Ngala Name: Chizi Duru IG: @ChiziDuru      Agency: Self-Represented Claim to Fame: Duru started a huge YouTube channel after her dad encouraged her to cut off her hair and go natural as a pre-teen.  Black women are chronically underpaid . Studies show this is a fact across a number of industries but in creative fields it is expounded on by an intentional lack of transparency. YouTube star turned professional model Chizi Duru is committed to changing this in creative fields. “There’s kind of been this culture of keeping quiet about the things that you’re doing, how much you’re making, what deals you’re making, what does your deal entail,” said Duru in an exclusive interview with Hello Beautiful .  View this post on Instagram What's one thing you've learned to love about yourself? For me, it was my hair texture. Yep. I remember getting so upset at my hair because it wouldn't curl “the right way” and it was so. hard. to. comb. But now I love it! It all came down to being mindful of my thoughts towards my hair and learning what worked for it. Now she's my crown, a game-changer, and I'll forever be thankful for my 4C hair Comment below, let's talk! A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 20, 2017 at 5:09pm PDT Appearing in campaigns for major brands like Burlington Coat Factory and Clarks she has been able to see the full extent of a company’s resources from a more empowered perspective. The infiltration of influencers into spaces traditional models have dominated has been met with some tension but Duru feels Youtubers can actually be assets to what she refers to as, “traditional models.” Cultivating a personal brand can fortify a model against rapidly shifting industry trends or missteps made by representatives . Many of the top models in the industry have cultivated a more personable approach to the faces on the billboards. “You can always use that to negotiate a deal for an even higher deal,” said Duru.  View this post on Instagram The goal is to continue to foster my self expression & individuality Rocking this outfit from @modcloth #ModClothSquad #SayItLouder @liketoknow.it #liketkit http://liketk.it/2wu6e A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Jul 10, 2018 at 2:20pm PDT “I definitely think there’s a bridge that’s being made,” she added. She wants her voice to be among those crossing that bridge.  “What I love about our generation and even the generation coming up after us is we’re more open and we’re like, ‘No we don’t have to keep quiet about things!’ I’m going to tell you how much I make so that you don’t ever get into a position where you’re undercharging or underselling yourself or you’re getting lowballed.” View this post on Instagram When you see your future husband walk by & silently thank God your braidout fully dried #happyhumpday #4cnaturalhair #naturalhair : @nvmwendy A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 6, 2017 at 11:15am PDT She created an offline space to further conversations about knowing your worth through the development of the Afro Brunch series. “You need a community and that’s something that I didn’t have. There’s no books on it. Unless you talk to someone and ask them hey how much did you charge for this you’re probably not going to find that easily on the internet right now.”  She hopes her modeling work will allow her to use her face and 4C hair to add diversity to visual representation in mainstream media. She acknowledges that her level of influence allows her insulated from things other models experience. View this post on Instagram Happy Friday I hope your weekend is filled with lots of joy and laughter : @kacienelsonphotography A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Aug 4, 2017 at 9:25am PDT “I haven’t been in any situation where they told me to wear my hair differently which I’m sure is different for a traditional model,” she said. She uses that privilege to advocate for inclusion and consideration of women with “with darker skin and kinky hair,” when she is in the room with brands often pushing back on their creative visions. “Whenever you are in the room with just people you’re bound to connect in some way.”  Duru desires for her image in store ads and commercials to not only impact little Black girls but people passing by who might not see them as the standard for what is beautiful. “I just I think it opens up their minds as well to see that beauty doesn’t just look one way,” she said.   View this post on Instagram Everyone needs a break from their natural hair and I like to protect mine by wearing wigs. You always see the woman that’s in the forefront is the lighter woman and it’s kind of subconsciously tells you like ‘Well I’m dark skinned, I’m not always going to be number one kind of thing.’ And I think just being able to be representation for that little girl that has darker skin or has kinky hair and them being able to see me on tv for a national commercial with Burlington they’re going to go ‘Wow! So this is possible for me,’ and that completely changes someone’s mindset and what they think is possible for them, which is everything because that can change someone’s trajectory in their life in general.”  Tyra Banks inspired Duru to speak up for herself on and off set. Arguably one of the model influencer hybrids she addressed topics like fat shaming on her talk show the way Duru does on her YouTube channel. “She started gaining weight and she started gaining backlash for that and I just remember really connecting to her story, like I’m gaining weight too I’m not a figure eight.”  She started using the phrase “You cannot talk to me anyhow,” to formalize her rejection of other people’s labels and refusals to meet her standards. “Even if I’m not a two or a six or a zero you still can’t talk to me anyhow. It’s something that I said because it doesn’t matter how what size I am how big or how small or what I look like you still cant talk to me anyhow.”  DON’T MISS:  MODEL MONDAY: Nyakim Gatwech Is A Model With A Message For Black Girls MODEL MONDAY: Shawana Vickers Chooses Confidence Over Clout Chasing MODEL MONDAY: Erica Campbell’s Modeling Career Began After She Was Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3062746″ overlay=”true”]

Spragga Benz Talks ‘Chiliagon,’ Jamaica’s Censorship

Source: press handout / tma A few days before this year’s West Indian Day Parade in New York City, Spragga Benz was a guest at SUNY Empire State in downtown Brooklyn. The dancehall pioneer was seated at the front of the room alongside two music executives and Dr. Carolyn Cooper, a professor at the University of the West Indies. They would be discussing the future of dancehall and reggae music as well as what that progression means for new artists. “The youth are doing their thing,” Spragga says, following the panel. “It’s a whole new generation from 1995. A different set of youth.  They’re expressing themselves and it’s not fair for us to say that what they’re doing isn’t right. Or lesser than that because we were free to do what we wanted and our parents were probably saying that what we were doing is stupid or wrong.” “A man may start out slack and end up conscious. It’s a journey.”—Spragga Benz On an elevated platform, Spragga offered stories of humble beginnings and incidentally finding his place in dancehall, although his personal business would have been better off without the cameras and the bright lights. “More people wanted me to record and I was like, ‘Alright. This thing is getting out of hand now…” The audience chuckled collectively. He continued earnestly, “Because my thinking at the time was about the type of lifestyle I was living, the type of friends that I had and the type of things we were doing… I’m not going up on no stage.”  View this post on Instagram See me with my spliff… big tune on the Grass Is Greener soundtrack #netflix @salaamremi production A post shared by Spragga Benz (@spraggabenz3) on Oct 13, 2019 at 5:56pm PDT That fear of exposure ended shortly thereafter as Spragga would go on to run the genre in mid-90s and now as he nears 30 years in the industry, there’s a sense of reverence that comes with his name. So much so that his first album in nearly a decade, Chiliagon , debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Reggae charts. Spragga Benz is out here breaking personal records for himself, even still. In a recent press release, Lem Oppenheimer, co-founder of Easy Star stated, “We are proud to have helped Spragga get to #1 for the first time in his career. What this shows us is that Spragga is still a vibrant artist, a current creative force, and an important voice in reggae worldwide.”    The album [ cop it here ] is a direct reflection of how Spragga defines the word ‘chiliagon’ — “a shape with a thousand sides.” The mix of roots reggae, drum and bass, dancehall, grime, garage and hip-hop highlights an evolution of sound, at least from his end. “That’s how I approach music,” he reveals. “I don’t really box into anything. I have different sides to myself and there’s an inclusion of all different genres of music, but to me a lot of different music comes from dancehall same way. So this album shows the connections and similarities and how a dancehall artist actually sounds over these different beats that actually aren’t that different.” Spragga claims that “No Regrets,” a wavy, roots reggae-inspired track from Chiliagon is his favorite on the album. Preceding the LP, Spragga’s “Count Tree” over the “Calaloo” riddim specifically highlights his spirited flow alongside synth-heavy production with just enough bounce to fall within the lines of traditional dancehall. Another single, “If Yuh Ready,” with UK DJ General Levy is specifically grime, or as Spragga describes: “Jungle Music!” His eyes light up, excitedly. “That same jungle music? It’s derived from dancehall music. It’s the same thing just sped up. They use our same bass lines and faster drums.” Naturally mellow, nothing seems to move Spragga Benz like music or talks of progression. As an OG in the dancehall world, Spragga has made it his business — his literal business, with Red Star Productions — to help motivate and encourage those coming behind him. Red Star is a sort of in-between, for young creatives trying to find their way. “We try to enhance the talent of young artists, bringing what they have out of them,” he explains. “Some may come to us as artists but they aren’t really artists. They might be a better producer or road manager or a writer, whatever it is that you want to do, we’ll push you to do it anyways, because that’s your desire until you find your growth and then you can always divert.”  “We try to just bring people in, let them be themselves but we try and guide them in the direction they want to go in without tying them to anything. You owe us nothing. It’s just doing you doing your own work and us giving you a platform.” View this post on Instagram #Repost @sunyuwicenter ・・・ Thank you to all of the participants who supported the successful launch of the SUNY-UWI Center for Leadership and Sustainable Development —Community Engagement Lecture Series entitled: “The Caribbean Music Industry 2019: What’s Next for Reggae, Dancehall and New Breakout Artists?” . . . #brooklyn #brooklynny #education #highered #suny #spraggabenz #sunyuwicenter #sunyuwi #clsd #music #breakoutartists #summerlecture @cristyofaragon @spraggabenz3 @irie_bobby @sunyempire @uwitv #empirestatecollege #carolyncooper #communityengagement #lectureseries #caribbeancommunityimpact #jamaicandiaspora #reggaemusic #dancehallmusic #artist A post shared by Spragga Benz (@spraggabenz3) on Aug 20, 2019 at 2:58pm PDT Earlier in the evening, during the panel, one man in the audience stood up and lamented, “It is the artist’s responsibility to censor your lyrics…” Attendees murmured in their seats. “You owe it to the youth.” It was only a matter of time before the topic arose of Jamaica’s unyielding moral code of conduct. Spragga held steadfast in his belief that an artist having to censor himself, defeats the idea of his being a creative. “They’re [the government] censoring dancehall artists, specifically,” he shares later. “Because those from other genres are able to say whatever they feel like saying. And I just think we should be free to say whatever we feel and express ourselves in our own way. Every man has his own idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. So leave a man to his own judgment and learning.”  “A man may start out slack and end up conscious. It’s a journey,” he continues. “Allow a man to walk his journey. Censorship comes in when some people want power over other people. Or when some people feel important and want to be ‘the God’ over what other people are doing and when you have enough people who feel that way, they form themselves into bodies and give themselves titles and feel even more important.”  “But artists only want to express themselves, we have our own moral compass to follow. A lot of us have children too and come from good homes with parents that give us certain  responsibilities and morals as well.”

Hailey Baldwin Slutty for Jesus of the Day

HAILEY BALDWIN and her new husband that she has been married to for over a year, but who they decided to remarry a few weeks ago, because they are young and rich and religious, while trying to connect with GOD, while connecting their genitals are in the new Calvin Klein campaign, being slutty for Jesus, because Jesus absolves all sins RIGHT…that’s the story anyway. I don’t buy that any entitled cunt like Baldwin or Bieber has any ounce of religious beliefs, or even spirituality. It’s obviously that they are empty rich kids with no real self identity…one a low level celeb loser’s daughter, the other some Canadian sold to the industry at a young age, likely raped in some capacity while earning all that money, when dude was probably happy just hanging out at home having a normal childhood…before being sold o youtube at a young age…like some kind of boy icon Hailey Beiber had her first sexual sex with, and likely jacked off to after bible study her dad forced her into – cuz he’s a recovering addict and we know how all of those are. Kaia Gerber Titty Cut Out of the Day

KAIA Gerber walking in Milan fashion week, where we saw her 18 year old nipples yesterday….cuz Kaia Gerber is 18 and officially ready to model her young rich tits. I just did a post discounting GIGI HADID as a model, because she’s just a fucking rich kid, but I will say that at last the Hadid’s aren’t the Jenners and come from a model mom, so it’s just an extension of their mom’s business…not that it makes them any better….not that it makes them anything more than an Instagram model…in an era where instagram models are a thing….but at least they aren’t Jenners… I have the same opinion of Kaia Gerber. It’s like she’s an LA rich kid, she’s raised in that world, to be in that world, for people to look at her based on her mom, and all that…and at least she’s not a Hadid but rather someone who looks like she could be a model thanks to looking a lot like her mom who was a model…..it’s almost creepy….and there’s no reason she shouldn’t have a model life, it’s lazy and it pays well, and at least they are earning while promoting shit people don’t need, in an irresponsible for the environment kind of way. You know contributing to the fall of society….and the mental health of her audience who feel inadequate for not being a GERBER / HADID / JENNER….. So I guess the hotter the rich brat who wants to be a model even though modeling is the dumbest thing a girl could want to be…so vapid and vain….the less offensive it is when they succeed at it….cuz the industry people are all groupie fucks. He recalled a time back in 2017 when he just needed to switch ish up, saying: “At this point, I am miserable because the social media stars are growing, the reality stuff is going down, Kim and everybody is like having nine babies, I’m like, ‘Oh my god, my time is going to start ticking down on the show and I’m not going to be on as much because there’s so many kids. Why am I needed — except being funny, hysterical, witty, fast and always there for them, good looking, smart? So I was like almost depressed. But after one friend suggested that he could be the Food God, Jonathan was with it. However, it was ultimately a Yeezy stamp that made him commit to his new image. “So I’m ordering food. I’m the first one in the line with [Kim, Kanye and Simon] pushed against me, with security and all of the fans behind us. I’m like, let me order my chicken nuggets with the buffalo sauce. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a voice of god comes out and out of nowhere he goes to me, ‘Yo, Foodgod! Can you get me a Diet Coke? And I’m like oh my god. Foodgod was freaking born. And the whole trip in Iceland, Kanye was like, ‘That’s some Foodgod vibes…’” In the episode, Jonathan and Kim also dished on how they met, being fake drinkers and much more never before heard tea. The podcast will also feature La La Anthony, Dr. Oz and influencer The Fat Jewish. Hit the flip to check out episode 1.

MODEL MONDAY: Lana Ogilvie Went From The First Black Covergirl To Skincare CEO

Source: Randy Brooke / (Photo by Randy Brooke/FilmMagic) Name: Lana Ogilvie IG: @lanaogilvie_official Agency: AnitaNorris Models/ Heffner Mgmnt/Abrams Artists/ModelCoOp Claim to Fame: The Canadian supermodel was the very first Black model to receive a COVER GIRL contract shattering a longstanding glass ceiling for Black models seeking work with commercial brands internationally. She has also appeared in Vogue , Elle, Bazaar, Marie Claire and Sports Illustrated . View this post on Instagram Winging it. Is it just me….. #ordomostpeoplehaveaplan #bellemagazine @ishiphoto @diana_carreiro @hudsonsbay A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Sep 4, 2019 at 8:25am PDT When any non-white model books a huge contract , panels are convened and headlines are printed. Everyone is delighted and (sadly) a little shocked that a giant corporation has decided to officially embrace someone who doesn’t fit the typical mold. But after all the meetings and memos that precede the press releases, the astonishment of the media is rarely shared by the model herself. “COVER GIRL was not a surprise for me,” said Ogilvie. “When COVERGIRL wanted to book me, my agent at the time, Michael Flutie from Company Management had the idea which he proposed to them, to put me under contract. To make it a bigger thing for not just me, but also for COVER GIRL and the industry in general.” View this post on Instagram Last Weekend for the beach #fbf with @si_swimsuit #siswimsuitissue #bikinibabe #swimsuitmodel A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Aug 30, 2019 at 12:05pm PDT Flutie’s suggestion came at the right time for an industry ready to inch forward towards a larger definition of what it meant to be beautiful. “They liked the idea obviously. And it really started that change within the beauty industry of signing different ethnicities to multiple year contacts, and forcing these huge companies to realize the buying power of ethnic consumers.” The moment and the subsequent media firestorm following the announcement were strong professional achievements for Ogilvie but they were still the result of someone else’s choices. “As a model, there is virtually nothing I can do to book or not book a job,” she explained. I have no control over whether I get a job or not, which is very stressful.” View this post on Instagram 90s hair, don’t care! She returned to Canada to work with a laboratory and chemist on creating her own skincare line. It would have been easy to allow a company to slap her million dollar face on something but Ogilvie wasn’t interested in taking the easy way out. I have been using natural products since I was a teenager.” View this post on Instagram Serum’s coming soon! @lanaogilviecosmetics #itsallabouttheskin #lanaogilviecosmetics A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jul 2, 2019 at 12:51pm PDT She ultimately settled on three products to launch with. “The peptide combination in the Rewind Facial Serum and the Retouch Eye Cream provide powerful anti-wrinkle fighting properties. My line is specifically for mature skin.I love all of the products the same. They are my babies! But I love serums in particular and the Renew Serum is very light and not sticky like many serums. It penetrates the skin very quickly. I apply it morning and night after washing, all over my face, but not the eye area. Sometimes I use a chilled facial roller to apply it.” View this post on Instagram #smile it’s Monday Laughing with @lovechicos #mondayvibes A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Aug 12, 2019 at 9:56am PDT She also invested in formal training so that she could empower herself through education. “I believe in having a knowledge base within what I am doing, being authentic within that space. I am finishing a course in organic skincare formulation, so I can speak with the chemist from a knowledge base and be able to talk to clients coming from an educated place,” she declared. She is hosting a sold out event with multicultural collective Face Flawless Skin beside other multicultural brands at Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship location. Her commitment to hard work limited her time for self-care. “My top asset is that I work my ass off. It’s also my worst asset because I will work myself into the ground. I forget to take a break from my own projects.” View this post on Instagram Hump Day Gettin wiggy with @cindyandrewsmia #shorthairdontcare A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jul 17, 2019 at 11:18am PDT One self-care step she never skips is her own skin care. “My face is my moneymaker and if my skin doesn’t look good I’m out of a job. When I started, retouching was done by hand on the photograph. On the actual print! There were no apps or digital retouching, so skin had to look good in real life.” After spending years backstage in the tragic nineties she’s learned a few things on her own before the chemistry lessons. “In the 90s, before the millecelair water and makeup wipes, a lot of models swore by using baby oil to remove eye makeup. I tried it once. It was so greasy and made me break out. Really a bad moment in skincare.” View this post on Instagram Rosy Tuesdays……@lovechicos A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jul 9, 2019 at 4:02pm PDT Her experiences backstage, “definitely inspired me to create a line.” Those experiences are able to continue, thanks to the ripple effect from the changes in the industry Ogilvie and her contemporaries set the standard for. “The industry is more inclusive especially age wise. Which is great for me. When I started there was no market for women over 40. At 26 your were on the way out. So it’s wonderful to see that.” View this post on Instagram Monday Bling #nevertoomuch @sidneygarber Jewelry A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jun 24, 2019 at 10:54am PDT She is even happy about the changes in the “plus-size market,” and the messages they send to women outside of the industry. “What I am also happy about are the guidelines now in place for healthy models. In the 90s models were too skinny and a really unhealthy body image was held in high regard. That was a low point, I think ,for beauty standards that the fashion industry imposed on women.” View this post on Instagram Getting ready for Canada Day @esteelaudercanada Shades of Canada #diversityiscanadian #lanaogilvie A post shared by Lana Ogilvie (@lanaogilvie_official) on Jun 27, 2019 at 11:28am PDT She has hopes that stronger changes will come where thee “Just not have any adjective in front of the word woman. “I would love to see beauty and fashion get to the point of thinking,’ We are going to book a beautiful woman for this job’, and not ‘We are going to book a beautiful Asian woman, or Black woman, or older woman’, etc.’ I’d love to see it just be a ‘woman’ – without the thought of anything else.” Unless it’s that woman’s glowing skin.
