THG Asks: Does Miley Cyrus Deserve Criticism Over the Bong Video?

Welcome to THG’s new feature, in which two of our celebrity gossip experts debate topical issues in the entertainment world and you decide who wrote the winning argument! Today, THG Asks : Does Miley Cyrus deserve the criticism over her infamous bong video? YES by Hilton Hater Legality does not equate to morality. At age 18 and partying in California, no one can argue that Miley Cyrus wasn’t within her rights to smoke salvia out of a bong . But is that the only criteria by which we judge celebrities, whether or not they can get arrested for an act? Miley isn’t stupid. She’s aware that cameras follow her around and that her fans are mostly young girls. In exchange for the popularity and money she’s earned in her career, is it really too much to ask to refrain from harmful acts in public? The law isn’t the issue here. The People Magazine Woman of the Year is …

… Joslyn James ! Just kidding. How hilarious would that be, though. Tiger Woods’ mistresses deserve at least a dishonorable mention for all the amusement they’ve brought us. Ironically, the actual winner of People ‘s arbitrary Woman of the Year honor was no doubt bolstered by a cheating scandal – of which she was on the raw end. Time just named Mark Zuckerberg Person of the Year . Who do you think captured People ‘s less famous, female-only distinction? Follow the jump to see… It’s Sandra Bullock! A worthy recipient, although you have to wonder if she would even be considered had Jesse James not given it to Michelle “Bombshell” McGee. Then again, that’s not fair. It was her courageous, admirable behavior in the wake of that scandal that showed us her true grace under pressure. She’s a winner! Who do you think should be Woman of the Year? Sandra? Someone else? Leave a comment below and tell us who else you deem worthy of such a title …

Michael Moore Posts Bail For WikiLeaks Dude

Controversial liberal filmmaker Michael Moore and other celebrities are putting their names and bank accounts on the line for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Assange, who was arrested for sex crimes in the UK last week, remains in custody pending an appeal by authorities against a judge’s decision to grant him bail. He has vowed to fight extradition to Sweden, arguing that the charges against him are politically motivated and designed to deflect attention from WikiLeaks. Maybe Moore can also front Assange a new haircut? This stance has won him some high-profile backing, as was shown at a hearing Tuesday when some notable faces entered Westminster Magistrates Court. He also found prominent support from here in the U.S., as Michael Moore pledged $20,000 from “his own pocket” to ensure the embattled Assange’s freedom. The director of Bowling for Columbine and Farenheit 9/11 said he backs Assange and will do “anything else I can do to keep WikiLeaks alive and thriving.” WikiLeaks, Moore maintains, “continues its work to expose the crimes that were concocted in secret and carried out in our name and with our tax dollars.” “We were taken to war in Iraq on a lie. Hundreds of thousands are now dead. Just imagine if the men who planned this war crime had WikiLeaks to deal with.” “They might not have been able to pull it off.” Assange’s bail is set at
