“In Living Color” Cast Reflects On Show’s Start, Talk Unseen Clips And Ticking Off Spike Lee And Arsenio Hall

Source: Heidi Gutman / Getty “In Living Color Cast” Talks About Ticking Off Other Talent And Sketches That Never Saw Daylight We’ll forever love “In Living Color” (shout out to our BOSSIP Fam David Alan Grier ) The Hollywood Reporter released released an in-depth oral history of In Living Color with Keenen Ivory Wayans , Jim Carrey, David Alan Grier, Carrie Ann Inaba, and more today, twenty-five years after the groundbreaking sketch show ended. We wanted to share some of the stories the cast and crew told about what went on behind-the-scenes and how execs pitched the show to Keenan Ivory Wayans as a “black ‘Laugh-In.’” Check out the excerpts below via THR: Tommy Davidson, on why he got In Living Color over SNL: When I landed In Living Color, I was a hot comic. A week before getting the job I had met with Lorne Michaels in his office in 1990 [for a potential SNL spot]. He lined it up for me and said, “I don’t want a black comedian. Eddie Murphy was a mistake. I don’t want a person that stands out.” I was confused. I was born black. There’s not a zipper in the back of this thing.[A spokesperson for SNL replies: “This account is without merit. Chris Rock, Tim Meadows and Ellen Cleghorne were all hired into the cast between 1990 and 1991.”] Jim Carrey, on sketches that didn’t make it to air: We were warped out of our minds. We presented several sketches that didn’t make it on the air, things that were just too insane, like the abortion rally ventriloquist. We came up with a sketch called “Make a Death Wish Foundation” about a dead kid whose posthumous wish was to go to an amusement park. That did not make it on air, either. But I came up with the face of the kid, and it eventually turned into the “Fire Marshall Bill” face. David Alan Grier, on the show’s … fans: Spike Lee hated the show. He got really mad at us because he thought we were over-the-top about Do the Right Thing. He did not like us making fun of him. People would get angry when we poked fun at them. Arsenio Hall too — anybody that we really poked fun at. Carrie Ann Inaba, on working with Jennifer Lopez: There was magic in the skits, and the Fly Girls had this cult following. [Choreographer] Rosie Perez pushed us hard. She didn’t know how to pronounce words like “pirouette,” but it didn’t matter. She had a vision. And Jennifer Lopez, we all knew she was destined for greatness. She was a very determined young woman. Really juicy stuff right? You’ve got to read the whole thing!

Damon Wayans Chuck The Deuces To ‘Lethal Weapon’ TV Role Because He’s “Too Old” And Sick For The Filming Schedule [Video]

Welp, rough news for fans of Fox’s Lethal Weapon action-comedy series . Damon Wayans has just abruptly announced that he plans on quitting the show at the end of filming this season. The news came as a relative surprise during his recent interview with Eurweb . The comedic actor claimed that as a 58-year-old man suffering from diabetes, the grueling shooting schedule had simply gotten to be too much for him. This is a shock for fans (and it seems, perhaps for the network…), who have already had to adjust to severe shake-ups on the show this year. Wayans’ co-star Clayne Crawford bowed out for season 3, replaced instead by Seann William Scott (“American Pie”). Now, with Wayans making an exit as well, there’s no telling what direction the show will go in. Do you watch? What do you think of this shakeup? Getty/Vimeo

Damon Wayans Jr. & ‘Basketball Wives’ Aja Metoyer In Custody Battle

Source: Tony Forte/WENN / WENN Damon Wayans Jr. is currently in the middle of a custody battle with the daughter of his mother, Aja Metoyer, and she’s preparing to fight back. Wayans has requested primary custody of the pair’s two teen daughters, which Metoyer, who stars on Basketball Wives , says is a ploy for the actor to pay less in child support. The Blast reports : Sources close to Metoyer tell The Blast she’s lawyered up and is prepared to square off against Wayans, who is requesting primary physical custody of their teenage daughters. He claims Metoyer isn’t taking the kid’s education seriously, and believes she’s doing them harm. However, Metoyer’s legal team tells us they find it “curious” Wayans is making a request for more custody right as he’s also launching a new “lucrative” primetime network show, “Happy Together.” We’re told Metoyer and her legal team believe Wayans only wants more custody to avoid paying more in child support, because in California child support is commonly established based on the income of the highest earning parent and the percentage of custody they have. Some might know that Metoyer is the mother of a son she gave birth to in 2013 with Dwyane Wade. — Photo: WENN

Nicki Minaj Mocks Disabled Woman in Wheelchair, Pisses Off Fans

Nicki Minaj may not have had the year's best celebrity Halloween costume (that title goes to LeBron James as Prince ), but she's attracting plenty of attention for her fairy godmother get-up. Sadly, it's for all the wrong reasons. In a video clip that's going viral today, a visibly intoxicated Nicki points her “magic wand” at a woman in a wheelchair and roars, “I command you to walk.” Needless to say, a lot of folks didn't find the remark as funny as Nicki and her friends seemed to. Nicki has been running damage control today by tweeting at Perez Hilton (one of the first to post the footage) that the woman sitting in the wheelchair was actually a makeup artist friend of hers. “That's NOT a disabled person and u know that. Are u that desperate for attention?” Nicki tweeted. “Bitch, u knew. That's my friend in a scooter.” Some fans have countered that even if Nicki is telling the truth (a big “if,” as based on the video, it doesn't seem the woman was in on the joke), the clip is still offensive to people with physical disabilities. Before she even “casts her spell,” Nicki can be heard to remark, “Now, if only I could find Handi Man,” a reference to the disabled superhero character played by Damon Wayans on the '90s sketch show In Living Color. So regardless of whether the woman was someone that Nicki knew, Ms. Minaj was clearly having a laugh at the plight of people with disabilities, and she should probably be apologizing instead of justifying. Also, Nicki, instead of being the 4 millionth celeb to indulge Perez Hilton's trolling, maybe just take Taylor Swift's advice from last night and let it go.

Damon Wayans Defends Bill Cosby, SLAMS Alleged Rape Victims

When Damon Wayans appeared on The Breakfast Club radio show last week, no one expected the 55-year-old comic to stir up much controversy. Perhaps that's why he decided to do exactly that. First, Wayans revealed that Tracy Morgan received $90 million from Wal-Mart in a settlement stemming from a devastating car wreck. (Both Morgan and Wal-Mart had been previously declined to reveal the terms of the settlement.) Then he offered his bizarre (and wildly offensive) take on the dozens of rape allegations against Bill Cosby . Asked about the scandal, Wayans decided to take the opportunity to do some riffing at the expense of Cosby's alleged victims and express his doubts about their accusations. “How big is his penis that it gives you amnesia for 40 years?” Damon joked, in reference to the amount of time that several victims waited before coming forward. “If you listen to them talk, they go, 'Well, the first time…' The first time? B-tch, how many times did it happen? Just listen to what they're saying. And some of them, really, is un-rape-able.” Yes, those words really came out of Damon Wayans' mouth. Shockingly, he kept going. Watch the clip above for the full shocking rant.
