Star Trek Into Darkness Clip: They’re Closing Fast!

A new  Star Trek Into Darkness clip has landed. In it, Kirk and Spock argue about whether their ship will fit through a tiny crevasse. I’m guessing it will. Star Trek Into Darkness Clip – Second Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch star in the sequel to 2009’s  Star Trek reboot. This time, when Starfleet is attacked, the Enterprise crew embarks on a manhunt to take down the person responsible. Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Simon Pegg also star. J.J. Abrams directs the film, which will hit theaters May 17.

POLL: ‘Man of Steel’ Vs. ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’: Which Trailer Is More Powerful?

The marketing teams for Star Trek Into Darkness   and Man of Steel   have been killing it in the trailer department, and their latest efforts are no exception. In fact the trailers that each campaign put out for their respective movies on Monday are so strong that I want to put it to Movieline’s readers to decide which is the most powerful statement.  In one corner, you’ve got an epic Man of Steel clip that gives a stirring, almost patriotic look at the scope of the Superman reboot (and a glimpse of Lois Lane ).  In the other, Star Trek fans are shown just how high the stakes will be when Kirk leads the crew of the Enterprise to the brink of disaster in pursuit of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain , whoever he turns out to be. I vote for Star Trek Into Darkness .  For me, the scene where cocky, brash Kirk apologizes to his crew, presumably for getting them in deep shit, is hugely effective and makes the story about human lives and relationships instead of special effects and phaser battles. Now, it’s your turn. Watch the two trailers below and vote. If you think there’s another trailer that I haven’t listed that should be included, leave it in the comments section. New ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Photo: Cold Chillin’ With Mr. Spock?

A handful of new Star Trek Into Darkness photos have hit the web, and they’re nothing to write home about, but the image of space-suited Spock  ( Zachary Quinto ) did catch my attention.  Judging from the steam rising up off the Vulcan’s protective gear, I’m guessing that this image could serve as an “After” shot to the “Before” image below of Spock hanging out in what’s been reported as a volcano. (Or is that vulcan-o? Ba-dum-bump!)  The best part?  Spock’s expression remains virtually the same no matter what temperature he’s at. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on  Twitter . Jedi Marketing Trick: Is J.J. Abrams Deflecting ‘Star Wars’ Questions With Inscrutable Answers?

I don’t know if J.J. Abrams  did this intentionally, but, if he did, it’s a real Jedi Master move.  I just read the interview that the filmmaker gave to Empire magazine in the U.K. in conjunction with the upcoming release of Star Trek Into Darkness , and the way he answered the inevitable Star Wars   question was so loopy and inscrutable that I have to wonder if that’s his strategy for minimizing — in the nicest way possible — Episode VII   talk during the STID  promotional push. Empire’s cover story is on Star Trek Into Darkness , but the publication has been teasing the issue with the below excerpt, which is about Abrams’ re-boot of the Star Wars franchise (Bold faced type is reproduced from the original excerpt): Mention the name JJ Abrams and there’s one question that immediately barges all others aside: what’s the plan for  Episode VII ? While he was able to approach  Star Trek  with a detached objectivity, how will he, as a huge  Star Wars  fan approach Star Wars’ bold new era?  Empire  put that question to the man himself when we recently sat down with him at his Bad Robot offices in LA. “I don’t know because we’re just getting started. So it’s a great question that I hope I’ll have a good answer to when I know what the answer  is . There are infinitely more questions than answers right now, but to me, they’re not that dissimilar. Though I came at these both from very different places, where they both meet is a place of ‘Ooh, that’s really exciting.’ And even though I was never a Star Trek fan, I felt like there was a version of it that would make me excited, that I would think ‘that’s cool, that feels right, I actually would want to see that. “How we were going to get there, what the choices were going to be, who was going to be in it – all of those things I knew would have to be figured out, but it was all based on a foundation of this indescribable, guttural passion for something that could be. It’s a similar feeling that I have with Star Wars. I feel like I can identify a hunger for what I would want to see again and that is an incredibly exciting place to begin a project. The movies, the worlds could not be more different but that feeling that there’s something amazing here is the thing that they share.” As I read the well-spoken Abrams’ comments in the last paragraph, I half-expected Empire ‘s writer to observe that there was a giant bong shaped like Figrin D’An’s Kloo Horn in the corner of the filmmaker’s office, but I really think Abrams’ rather cosmic word choice was probably just a smart Jedi Marketing Trick.  To me, it feels like Abrams used those superlatives — “incredibly exciting” and “amazing” — to connect these two iconic sci-fi franchises and, by extension, their usually rivalrous fans. Beyond that, he gives away nothing about Star Wars , except to drop the neat little morsel that Steven Spielberg “was very encouraging” and “knew all about what was going on.” It will be interesting to see whether Abrams handles future Star Wars questions with similar wondrous cosmic vagueness during the Star Trek Into Darkness promotional cycle.  It’s certainly a viable alternative to declining to address them at all. Chris Brown and Jennifer Lopez: In the Studio Together!

Looks like a Jennifer Lopez and Chris Brown collaboration is nigh. The two superstars were spotted in the studio today. Peep it: The 43-year-old songstress tweeted the shot with the R&B star. “@chrisbrown @CORYROONEY @BEAUcasperSMART @missgillygrace #studiolife #makinghistory #Album10 #SAMEGIRL,” J. Lo captioned the shot. The takeaway: Chris Brown will guest on Jenny’s latest album. Dressed in jeans and a pink sweater, leans against Brown, 23, who’s also looking cool but casual, sporting jeans and a denim jacket over a blue hoodie. Also in the picture? Songwriter and producer Cory Rooney, who’s worked with the likes of Destiny’s Child, Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey and Marc Anthony. Awkward? Doesn’t look, or sound like it. At all. Rooney posted the same pic of the trio on his Tumblr page, writing, “S–t got real serious up in here tonight.” Can’t wait to hear the “real” s–t they recorded!

Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer: You Think Your World is Safe?

We still can’t say with 100 percent confidence who exactly Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in Star Trek Into Darkness , but we do know that he’s terrifying. And for a guy named Benedict Cumberbatch, that’s hard to pull off. Check him out in the new Star Trek Into Darkness international trailer : Star Trek Into Darkness International Trailer Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto return as Kirk and Spock in the J.J. Abrams sequel. This time, Star Fleet is attacked, causing the Enterprise crew to embark on a manhunt to catch those responsible. The trailer also features a quick shot of Alice Eve in her unmentionables. But here I go mentioning them, so I guess they’re mentionable. It’s still hot. Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Jon Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban also star. Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theaters May 17.
