That Time Nancy Wilson Slayed On ‘The Cosby Show’

Read this article:

N ancy Wilson was a lot of things to many people: a daughter; a mother; a wife. But the legendary singer, who died Thursday at the age of 81, will surely go down in history as one of the greatest jazz performers of all time. However, there was another role that Wilson carved out during her lifetime: an actress. RIP Nancy Wilson, 12/13/2018. pic.twitter.com/aaltN7Pbfs — Channing Thomson (@CHANNINGPOSTERS) December 14, 2018 The woman with the inimitable golden voice starred or appeared in nearly two dozen TV shows over the course of more than four decades, according to IMDB . But it was one cameo appearance, in particular, that many on social media were remembering fondly Friday, when news of her death was officially announced. Wilson’s one-time role on “The Cosby Show” as Lorraine “NuNu” Kendall — the mother of Joseph Phillips’ character Martin, who was the husband of Lisa Bonet ‘s Denise Huxtable — was short, but oh-so-memorable for the way she broke into song mid-line to effortlessly display the vocals that made her such celebrated singer during a career that won her three Grammys spanning just about 60 years. My favorite Nancy Wilson memory will always be when she and Phylicia Rashad sang “Moody’s Mood For Love” together on the Cosby Show. Her voice was truly amazing. RIP. https://t.co/z5fcb4JhAd — Lauren Porter (@thelaurenline) December 14, 2018 The episode in question featured Martin parents visiting Lisa’s family home in Brooklyn and was called “Grampy and NuNu Visit the Huxtables.” It aired nearly 30 years ago on Nov. 30, 1989, and was about Lisa worrying about what her new in-laws would think of her and her family. The setting was the family home’s basement with Lisa’s father speaking with Martin’s father, who was played by legendary actor stage and TV actor Moses Gunn. The two were having a playful discussion about James Moody’s jazz standard, “I’m in the Mood for Love,” and begin signing it when Wilson, accompanied by Phylicia Rashad ‘s Clair Huxtable, strides onto the set, flashed her signature smile and belted out the rest of the song’s lyrics. That prompted Claire to join in as the two ladies walk down the stairs to join their husbands in song, bringing the studio audience to a resounding round of applause when she was finished. See the classic footage below. Rest in peace, Nancy Wilson. She will be missed. [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3840363″ overlay=”true”]

Ex-NBA Ref Gets Into Brawl With Dominique Wilkins At Philips Arena! [VIDEO]

Read this article:

An ex-NBA referee named Rashan S. Michel waited in Philips Arena after the Hawks-Magic game last night just long enough to demand $12,500 from NBA Hall of Famer and Hawks analyst Dominique Wilkins. As seen in the TMZ-branded video below, Michel confronted Wilkins, shoved him, punched a security guard, and judging from his mug shot, still got the worst of the damage: The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Michel was the youngest NBA ref when he joined the ranks in 1997 at age 23, and he worked for some time in college and professional games. In 2001, he opened his own custom clothing company, and he alleges that Wilkins took unfair advantage of his shop over the years. Denise Huxtable Named One Of 10 Most Stylish Women In TV History

Link:

Remember the days when women on TV were known more for how they dressed than how they undressed? No? Me either. But our friends at TVSquad have paid homage to 10 women they felt had a keen eye for style. In the case of Denise Huxtable, the second oldest sister from The Cosby Show , she was praised for escaping the fashion-challenged 80s with her own style intact. “ Oversized button-downs and sweaters, men’s hats and pants that defied all logic — Denise was a trend trailblazer…Just don’t make the same mistake as brother Theo and ask her to sew you a shirt . ” We personally think the Gordon Gartrell was ahead of its time but check out the rest of their list HERE.
