Lady Gaga really wear slabs of meat as a dress

It didn’t reek or leave a trail of blood, but warmed up pleasantly on her skin. Lady Gaga’s “meat dress” was real and made of beef, designer Franc Fernandez revealed Monday, one day after the singer traipsed around in it at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Brown/Getty Images Construction took two days and the dress was refrigerated; Mr. Fernandez later transported it in a cooler – “its own little coffin.” The final product weighed 40 pounds and sat atop a corset. “Gaga said it smelled good,” he said. The singer also got meat booties wrapped in butcher twine and a clutch with an antique brooch applied to the beef. Mr. Fernandez said the dress would not rot, but harden into “jerky.” Although the butcher suggested taxidermy, the designer said the dress would be immortalized in the “Gaga Archives.” The singer, who donned a meat bikini on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan last week, told Ellen DeGeneres she meant “no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian,” insisting it was a human-rights statement of sorts. Ms. DeGeneres, a vegan, then presented Gaga with a kale bikini. Ingrid E. Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was equally unimpressed. “What’s next: the family cat made into a hat?” she wrote in a statement Monday. They can rest assured: Mr. Fernandez says the beef gown was a one-shot deal. “There’s not going to be meat dresses in the future.” Related Posts: Lady Gaga From Toronto to Buffalo Lady Gaga Raises 250K for Japan Relief Efforts Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: Vanity Fair Oscar Party Couple Ride ‘em Gaga: The Lady hits Texas in her ten gallon hat and cowboy boots Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s VMA Meat Dress To Become ‘Jerky’

Designer Franc Fernandez says headline-making dress will be preserved and archived. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s meat dress is among the most outrageous outfits the superstar has ever sported. She’s rocked cigarette-adorned shades, teetered on freakishly high Alexander McQueen heels and posed in flame-throwing undergarments, so topping herself in the what-is-she-wearing-now? department is definitely an achievement. The songstress is rarely seen in the same thing twice, but an ensemble crafted from raw meat isn’t the type of look the wearer can keep around — without risking the smell of decaying beef in one’s closet — let alone bust the thing out for another flesh-frock-appropriate occasion. Apparently, the dress hasn’t been tossed out or repurposed as tartare for some adventurous eater. After the beef dress’ headline-snagging debut at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the look will be preserved and saved, presumably to provide inspiration for some far-out designer’s future sartorial creation. “The dress will go through a process where it becomes a sort of ‘jerky’ and will be archived,” designer Franc Fernandez told E! Online . However, don’t expect Gaga to bring back the look and shake up another awards show in, say, a jerky jumpsuit anytime soon. Fernandez recently explained to the MTV Style blog that, even though the dress may not decompose, it’s still just a single-use outfit. “The meat dries out, rather than rotting. It becomes jerky,” Fernandez said. “But it shouldn’t be worn again.” Just like Gaga should leave the jerky-fied dress in the past, Fernandez insisted he’s not going to hook up anyone else with carcass couture in the future. “I think it’s just that — it’s just the meat dress,” Fernandez observed. “There’s not going to be meat dresses in the future. This was made for a specific purpose. It’s what it is.” Would you like to see Lady Gaga’s jerky dress? Let us know in the comments! Lady Gaga Meat Dress Designer Tells How To Re-Create His VMA Look

Franc Fernandez says Gaga thought the dress ‘smelled good.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga at the VMAs on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Did you watch Sunday night’s VMAs and wonder how you too can re-create the Franc Fernandez-designed Lady Gaga meat dress ? Well, wonder no more. MTV News caught up with the now-infamous designer and he very simply explained how one makes a dress made entirely of meat. “Go to your butcher, get some good cuts and start sewing,” he said about Gaga’s getup, which was her third look of VMA night. Before her fashions got meaty, the singer wore two gowns — one designed by the late Alexander McQueen and one by Giorgio Armani. However, those ultra-glam garbs were overshadowed by Fernandez’s over-the-top look. “I was approached by [fellow fashion stylist] Nicola Formichetti to create the look. It was planned over a week period,” Fernandez explained about how the dress came to fruition. “It’s always a pleasure working with Nicola and Gaga, the times I have. The process is very easy and quick.” While the process may have been “easy and quick,” Gaga did have to wear the dress for an extended period of time. “She wore it for as long as it was seen on TV, with some additional press photos and for the ‘Ellen’ show ,” he explained, adding that he wasn’t at all worried about the meat spoiling. “There’s been a big debate of whether it smelled or rotted under the lights,” he said. “Gaga herself said it smelled good, because it smelled like meat. I chose the right cuts to make sure the dress kept well.” What’s next for Fernandez, who also lent his talents to Gaga and Beyonc
