As part of a collaborative effort with the Los Angeles Unified School District, UCLA and NASA, the foundation offers a program called Camp Skyhook which takes grade school students on a five-day educational experience in the Angeles National Forest. The organization has served over 4,000 students since its inception. “When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple. Sell it all,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote in a statement featured on his website. “Looking back on what I have done with my life, instead of gazing at the sparkle of jewels or gold plating celebrating something I did a long time ago, I’d rather look into the delighted face of a child holding their first caterpillar and think about what I might be doing for their future. That’s a history that has no price.” He partnered Goldin Auctions to sell his items which were each worth thousands of dollars. Among the items that were featured in the auction were four of his championship rings, an all-star ring, an MVP trophy, and an autographed basketball from 1989. According to Bleacher Report , the items were auctioned off for nearly $3 million. Underserved communities across the country lack access to resources and funding for STEM education. It’s powerful to see Abdul-Jabbar use his platform to change that narrative. Random Ridiculousness: Limo Driver Popped By One-Time For Driving High School Students To Prom While Slizzard

Driving while drunk . Applaud his dumb a**. Limo Driver Arrested For Driving Drunk According to CBS Chicago A 54-year-old man is accused of drunk driving while transporting a bus full of high school students to the prom in Glen Ellyn last evening. 23 students from Oswego East High School were on that bus, says the DuPage County Sheriff’s office. And they noticed the driver – Richard L. Madison of Palos Hills – was driving erratically. So they told their parents, who notified two off-duty Oswego police officers who were working security at the prom. Madison was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI and reckless conduct. The DuPage County Sheriff say Madison was working for the Limos Alive Party Bus company based in Alsip. Its website says Limos Alive “will provide you with the ultimate party atmosphere to get you going along the way. Comfortable limousine style seating, laser lighting, stereo surround sound and mini bar.” It was Oswego east high school’s senior prom. and Kelsey Dano was expecting the night of her life. Instead, what she got, was the ride of her life. “I had a feeling he was drunk when we first went into the ditch,” said Kelsey Dano. Dano says 54-year-old Richard Madison drove into a ditch just as he was leaving the Oswego subdivision where he picked up 24 students. “We went out of the subdivision, but he cut through multiple subdivisions just to get onto the main raid and then he hopped over two medians,” said Dano. Madison was arrested when the group finally arrived at the prom site, Abbidington Banquets near Glen Ellyn, a 45-minute trip that took 75 minutes instead. “We got there, we got out of the bus or whatever, he kind of was stumbling and his eyes were really red,” said Dano. So Kelsey said she knew he was drunk when he drove into the ditch? Yea that would be our first clue too sweetie. Continue reading

Whatcha Talkin’ Bout Willis? Kobe Bryant’s Parents Call Him A Liar, Mom Says He Gave Her The Memorabilia

SMH! Kobe please handle your scandal behind close doors. It’s always sad when families fight especially in the public eye. Kobe Bryant’s Parents Say Son Is A Liar According to TMZ Kobe Bryant’s parents have turned their backs on their son — claiming Kobe was LYING when he accused his mother of stealing more than a million dollars worth of his basketball memorabilia … and putting it up for auction, TMZ has learned. Kobe’s mom and dad — Pamela and Joe — both filed sworn declarations in the legal dispute between Kobe and Goldin Auctions, the auction house planning to sell off the valuable stuff … insisting Kobe willingly gave his mother the items in question … and it’s her right to sell them. According to Kobe’s dad, Kobe gave his mother the memorabilia over the years, telling her, “Here mom, these are for you.” Kobe’s mom insists she never took anything from him without permission. Even Kobe’s grandma has filed a declaration in support of Pamela. Kobe’s sister Sharia Washington, on the other hand, filed a declaration claiming their mother has been conspiring to sell Kobe’s stuff for years … telling her the family could profit greatly from Kobe’s stardom. Who’s lying? As we reported, Kobe has countersued, claiming his mother stole the memorabilia from his house. He wants to stop Goldin from selling the items and to have them returned to him. A judge has blocked the auction, but only for now. It’s kind of funny how Kobe’s entire family has turned against him. Hmm.. We bet somewhere Vanessa is smiling from ear to ear. Continue reading

Family Matters: Shady Kobe Bryant Takes Legal Action To Keep His Poor Momma From Auctioning $1.5 Million In High School Memorabilia

The Black Mamba has a cold, cold heart… Kobe Bryant Puts Cease-And-Desist On Mother’s Auction Of His Memorabilia Via Philly For years, Pamela Bryant kept asking her son: Do you still want all this stuff that I’m keeping for you – your old basketball jerseys, your sports awards, your high school trophies? And for years, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court in Camden on Thursday, the son, now 34, was content to let it all sit around at the house. Until … Until Pamela Bryant, Kobe Bryant’s mother, wanted to auction it off for an expected $1.5 million so she could use the money to buy a house in Nevada. That’s when the Los Angeles Lakers shooting star (and Lower Merion High School basketball phenomenon) put the brakes on the idea, sending a cease-and-desist letter to the auctioneer, Goldin Auctions L.L.C. of West Berlin. The 42 items of merchandise, which include several Lower Merion uniforms worn by the player and two 2000 Lakers Championship rings designed for his parents, were to go up for auction in June, each authenticated as genuine by Pamela Bryant. Sounds like Mama Bryant has been planning this little get-rich-quick scheme for a few years now. According to the lawsuit, Pamela Bryant had been storing some of her son’s memorabilia for at least 15 years – his high school uniform shorts and jerseys date back to 1994 and there’s even a Sonny Hill League Future Stars Champion trophy from 1992, when he was still in middle school. Seven or eight years ago, well after Kobe had gotten married, Pamela Bryant asked her son’s wife, Vanessa, if she wanted the items. She said no – those items belonged to the past, according to the suit. And so, five years ago, the lawsuit says, Pamela Bryant packed up the jerseys, the championship rings, and award plaques, spending $1,500 a month to store and insure them in West Berlin. “Pamela Bryant indicated to Ken Goldin that Kobe Bryant has never demanded the return of any of the items, nor were they in any way taken from [him] without his permission,” the suit says. Mother and son haven’t always been close. According to reports, Kobe Bryant’s parents, who are African American, didn’t attend his wedding because they thought at 21 he was too young and because his wife is not black. But like most disapproving parents, they came around with the birth of a grandchild, a girl. Things might get even more dicey because according to the lawsuit Kobe’s mom has already been paid $450,000 in advance of the sale and has used that money to put down on her Nevada dream home. Money and family just don’t mix. SMH Image via AP Continue reading
