N BA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has used mementos from his storied basketball journey for a good cause. As part of a collaborative effort with the Los Angeles Unified School District, UCLA and NASA, the foundation offers a program called Camp Skyhook which takes grade school students on a five-day educational experience in the Angeles National Forest. The organization has served over 4,000 students since its inception. “When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple. Sell it all,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote in a statement featured on his website. “Looking back on what I have done with my life, instead of gazing at the sparkle of jewels or gold plating celebrating something I did a long time ago, I’d rather look into the delighted face of a child holding their first caterpillar and think about what I might be doing for their future. That’s a history that has no price.” He partnered Goldin Auctions to sell his items which were each worth thousands of dollars. Among the items that were featured in the auction were four of his championship rings, an all-star ring, an MVP trophy, and an autographed basketball from 1989. According to Bleacher Report , the items were auctioned off for nearly $3 million. Underserved communities across the country lack access to resources and funding for STEM education. It’s powerful to see Abdul-Jabbar use his platform to change that narrative. Azealia Banks Weighs In On Kim & Rhymefest’s Twitter Clash

Original post:

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Azealia Banks weighed in on this weekend’s Twitter war between Kim Kardashian and Rhymefest , and Banks says she has personal accounts to add to the picture. Banks was triggered by Kim’s mean girls drag of Rhymefest Saturday afternoon, which shamed the DONDA Foundation co-founder for wearing fake Yeezys to a recording session with Kanye West . But it’s dedicated to Kanye’s mom… i would assume kanye would be the one sustaining the foundation + not everyone can afford to pay loads of $ sneakers. I was at that session and kanye had a private Chef cooking food for only him. Kanye had niggas in the studio hungry and broke https://t.co/LiAdkE7VPW — CHEAPY XO (@cheapyxo) May 27, 2018 In response to Kim’s tweets about Fest and the struggles to finance DONDA’s House, Banks typed: “But it’s dedicated to Kanye’s mom… i would assume kanye would be the one sustaining the foundation + not everyone can afford to pay loads of $ sneakers. I was at that session and kanye had a private Chef cooking food for only him. Kanye had niggas in the studio hungry and broke.” Read all of her tweets below: Literally the most obnoxious thing to watch kanye eat a plate of cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto off Versace plates and 24k cutlery while not offering anyone in the room a single snack. Niggas kept looking at him hoping he would offer and it was the most awkward shit ever — CHEAPY XO (@cheapyxo) May 27, 2018 Banks added: “Literally the most obnoxious thing to watch kanye eat a plate of cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto off Versace plates and 24k cutlery while not offering anyone in the room a single snack. I KNOW I DID NOT FLY ALL THE WAY TO HAWAII TO LEND MY CREATIVE ENERGY JUST TO WATCH YOU STARE ME IN THE EYES AND EAT CANTALOUPE. — CHEAPY XO (@cheapyxo) May 27, 2018 Banks made another good point, asking why Fest and other friends of Ye’s don’t get complimentary Yeezys from the big homie? She typed: “And trust I seen the types of niggas Kanye has in the studio they are all regular dude plus why kanye ain’t give Rhymefest some yeezy’s? Why did Rhymefest have to procure his own yeezys lol.” And trust I seen the types of niggas Kanye has in the studio they are all regular dude plus why kanye ain’t give Rhymefest some yeezy’s? That’s just kicking a nigga while he’s down. Making it public that his charity needs money. He probably trying to stack his yeezy coins then invest” But at the same time why Rhymefest had to throw another L at kanye after drake just threw hot soup on the nigga last night… . Source: Jeyhoun Allebaugh / Getty Despite a tough Game 7 loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs, Jayson Tatum ’s future is looking as bright as ever. The Duke product and third overall pick in the 2017 draft made a solid case for Rookie of the Year during the regular season, but it was on the global stage of the playoffs that he set himself apart from all of his peers. ”He’s built for stardom, he’s built for success,” said James after Game 7. LeBron came with the praise for Jayson Tatum. pic.twitter.com/sI19UYYRSV — SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) May 28, 2018 LeBron, who’s now on his way to his eighth straight NBA Finals appearance, definitely knows what he’s talking about. And even if the King wanted to stunt on the rookie, this crunchtime facial was a reminder that Tatum will be in the running for James’ throne sooner than later. These NBA Players’ Dopplegangers Are Setting Twitter On Fire

View original post here:

Source: Sam Forencich / Getty Twitter had a field day on Tuesday when pictures emerged of a “fake Klay Thompson ” in the Oracle Arena at the Warriors-Rockets game. A Klay Thompson impersonator played by YouTube personality BigDawsTV previously attended Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. He was it again on Tuesday night when the Warriors opened the season with a home game versus the Houston Rockets, and though the Internet wasn’t fooled, he tweeted that Kevin Durant gave him a high-five and called him Klay–so his actual teammate might have gotten bamboozled. After pictures of him at the game surfaced, jokes were flying all night. Whose mans? #FakeKlay pic.twitter.com/2q3lAZjGBx — Bleacher Report NBA (@BR_NBA) October 18, 2017 western conference vs. eastern conference pic.twitter.com/AT59ZRW8CT — Tim Cato (@tim_cato) October 18, 2017 mood. pic.twitter.com/AGSAzjl9KK — GoldenStateWarriors (@warriors) October 18, 2017 And the fun doesn’t stop there. The very next day, a James Harden impersonator appeared at the Houston Rockets game in Sacramento, once again making NBA fans confused. The tall bearded gentleman doesn’t look as much like James Harden as the fake Klay looks like Klay Thompson, but his dedication is still admirable, nonetheless. Any casual NBA fan could definitely confuse this guy for the actual Rockets teammate. Last night there was fake Klay Thompson. Tonight in Sacramento…. pic.twitter.com/J6nGggnHoX — James Ham (@James_HamNBCS) October 19, 2017 #FakeHarden @SportsCenter #SCtop10 pic.twitter.com/ls6qHYwetY — KingJimD (@jimteach30) October 19, 2017 Both of these NBA imposters inspired the revival of an older doppleganger occurrence, fake Kobe. This Kobe Bryant look-a-like wasn’t even suited up in his NBA garb like the other two, but his resemblance to the former Lakers star is undeniable. Who ya got? #FakeKlay #FakeKobe pic.twitter.com/55xP0Q5ZA6 — NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) October 19, 2017 Hopefully these fake NBA players inspire more player look-a-likes to show up to some games in their hometown dressed in their team’s gear to see if people can tell the difference. It’s definitely gonna be a fun night on Twitter whenever the next doppleganger emerges.

A “Lil Positivity” – Ray Allen Designs NBA Black History Month Shirt For Players #NBABHM

Ray Allen Designs NBA Black History Month Shirt Kudos to Ray Allen for this… Via Bleacher Report: While Ray Allen is proud of the mark he’s made with his play—making more three-pointers than anyone else—he’s trying to leave a legacy in other ways. This month, you may see the result of his sweat…In the shirts that NBA players are sweating in. Allen collaborated with the league on the design of the special shooting shirts for February, shirts that feature images of Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and Bill Russell. “I’ve been trying to make noise about it for the longest time, ever since I was in Milwaukee,” Allen told Bleacher Report recently. “Because when it came to Black History Month, I was always the guy to try to get the guys to do little video montages, during halftime, during timeouts, where we would read about one of the black heroes of ours, a great civil rights activist, or someone who was a pioneer back in the day that helped push along black culture and improve the civil liberties of black people.” And there was a problem, in his view. “It got to the point where I would read all of them, because nobody else would do it,” Allen said. “I always used to have a gripe with the way this game is, and how many young black men are playing this game, and how many have benefited from the civil rights movement. But we never talk about Black History Month, there is never anything done inside the (other) arenas. So I tried that, every place that I went, to at least have some type of moment. Let’s not have Black History Month and let the moment pass by.” Allen was insistent upon the importance of inclusion. He worked quickly with a friend to create the design, and they worked with the league to make sure it was appropriate for everyone. “The shirt doesn’t have to be a black shirt,” Allen said. “One of my messages was, Black History Month is not just about black people. Black History Month is about how black people have fought to improve the lives of not only black people, but the world over. “Martin Luther King fought for the civil liberties of all people. That’s something that we need to continue to believe, and understand that. People in the Middle East right now are fighting, and they are paying homage to Martin Luther King’s civil rights movement, they are following those doctrines, and how he fought for equality for all people. So that’s something that we need to talk about right in the forefront.” This is great! WENN/NBA
