#MeToo: Gold Medal Olympic Gymnast McKayla Maroney Reveals She Was Molested By Team Doctor

Image via Getty McKayla Maroney Accuses Dr. Larry Nassar Of Sexually Abusing Her The sweaty, slimy and sexually abusive Harvey Weinstein scandal has set off a wave of women coming forward to share their harrowing experiences on social media via the hashtag #MeToo. “Me Too” began as a creation of Tarana Burke back in 2007 in an effort to support sexual abuse survivors. McKayla Maroney rose to fame in the 2012 London Olympics when she won both gold and silver medals. She also became virally popular when memes of her now-infamous “not impressed” face became everybody’s favorite thing online. Early this morning, McKayla revealed that while she was winning medals and enjoying celebrity, she was suppressing a dark secret. She freed herself of that burden in a letter she posted to Twitter. #MeToo pic.twitter.com/lYXaDTuOsS — mckayla (@McKaylaMaroney) October 18, 2017 For those unaware of Dr. Larry Nassar, he is currently in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography in addition to being accused of sexually abusing over 100 and young girls. He’s set to be sentenced between 22-27 years in prison next month. McKayla Maroney Vault Leads U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team to Gold

A near-perfect vault by McKayla Maroney was probably the biggest highlight of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team’s Olympic gold medal win last night – even if the judges inexplicably docked her a quarter of a point. McKayla, 16, nailed the vault, showcasing the Amanar – a tricky, near-impossible skill that just a handful of gymnasts in the world can do – with such precision, her coach couldn’t believe her score wasn’t the maximum. “It. Was. The. Best. Vault. Ever,” Marta Karolyi said. Watch below and you’ll see, it’s hard to argue that:

USA Gymnastics Team Wins Gold!

Everyone together now: USA! USA! USA! The women’s gymnastics team took to the mat, the balance beam and the vault today in London and left absolutely no doubt in the minds of spectators or judges: they are the best in the world. The quintet of Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, Alexandra Raisman, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney EASILY captured the Gold Medal a few moments ago, destroying second place Russia by five points. The U.S. squad finished with a total of 183.596. The victory ought to be especially sweet for Wieber, who was left in tears on Sunday after she failed to advance to the final round of the individual competition. America last took home the top prize at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Stars and stripes and perfectly stuck dismounts forever, citizens. Stars and stripes and perfectly stuck dismounts forever.
