Having already fired Aviva Drescher , The Real Housewives of New York City has demoted Ramona Singer to recurring status for the upcoming seventh season. Singer, 57, has been a main cast member since the show’s 2008 debut. Her demotion follows a similar situation handed to former core cast member LuAnn de Lesseps, who became a recurring “friend” during the sixth season. In Ramona’s case, it’s even more surprising as she’s regarded has one of the chief reasons anyone would watch The Real Housewives of New York City . Or so you might think … but the network doesn’t. “Bravo is casting the show around Heather Thomson and Kristen Taekman and Carole Radziwill,” an insider said. “[When] Ramona carried the show, that is why ratings plummeted, they think.” The source adds that Singer’s paycheck (reportedly $600,000 a year!) was also a factor in her demotion and bringing in new blood such as Helena Christensen . Whatever the reason, the demotion comes after a tumultuous year for Ramona, who just announced the end of her 22-year marriage to husband Mario Singer. His affair with Kasey Dexter and their subsequent brief reconciliation was not shown on TV; Ramona bristled at the reunion when Andy Cohen tried to discuss it.
