Congrats, Brotha! Steven Reed Will Be Sworn-In Today As The First Black Mayor Of Montgomery, Alabama

View this post on Instagram #ANewMontgomery is on the horizon, and we've got several days of events planned to mark this historic occasion. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages tomorrow for some important inauguration event updates you won't want to miss. Stay tuned for details! #stevenformontgomery #newgenerationoflesdership #montgomeryalabama A post shared by Steven Reed (@stevenlouisreed) on Oct 30, 2019 at 3:51pm PDT Steven Reed To Be Sworn In As Montgomery’s First Black Mayor Montgomery , Alabama is a city with a very rich history of civil rights and conversely one marred with racism, violence, and hatred. Today, the city begins a new chapter as Steven Reed will become the very first African-American person to be sworn in as Mayor according to WGNO . Before taking the reigns of city, Reed was a Montgomery County probate judge who will now replace Mayor Todd Strange after he chose not to seek reelection. Montgomery was the site of the Rosa Parks-inspired bus boycott in 1955 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, as well as the destination of the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery protest marches that were met with brutal police violence and led to the Voting Rights Act. The nation’s first memorial for more than 4,000 victims of lynchings opened there last year. About 60% of the city’s residents are black. With all that baggage, Reed, who was born and raised in the Alabama capitol, is ready to take the city into a new era. “We’ve been unified on the message of opportunity and creating an environment where people can live, learn and earn,” Reed said. “We want to let everyone know that this is a new Montgomery,” Reed said. “This is a new day, and we’re going to be a great part and a great asset to this country.” Clap for ’em!

The “Moonlight”/”Bird Box” actor doesn’t use much social media but a friend apparently shared a photo of the actor coupled up with a woman captioned “Congratulations.” In it, he’s posing with fitness model Mara Wright and toasting with people who seem to be members of Wright’s family as they speak in German. Poor Thang: Beyhive Bashed Nicole Curran Disables Instagram, Gets Death Threats For Babbling By Beyoncé

Source: Ezra Shaw/Getty Images Is it really that serious? Nicole Curran Says She’s Gotten Death Threats Over Beyoncé The lady who mindlessly mumbled across Beyoncé’s blessed face is responding to the backlash. Nicole Curran is apparently flummoxed by the backlash of the Bey Hive who’ve been badgering for her over that 13-second incident during the NBA finals. According to Curran who’s married to Warriors owner Joe Lacob, the video of her leaning across Bey to talk to Jay Z isn’t what it seems. Instead, she insists that she was taking the couple’s drink orders and only got close to Beyoncé because it was so loud in the arena. She also clapped back at fans who told her to “kill herself” over the incident. “Listen Beehive. I respect Queen B. I love her!” wrote Curran in her IG comments section. “I talked to her husband twice tonight. First, to take a drink order for them both when they arrived as they were our guests. Second, to explain why I gave his wife a rose from a fan. All of this has been taken out of context. I am a happily married woman. Telling me to kill myself??? Somehow I don’t think she would support this.” She’s since deleted her account—but not before the Hive got some NASTY comments in. I f you’re traveling into Nashville, there may be a possibility that you’ll be landing at the Oprah G. Winfrey Nashville International Airport in the future. According to the Tennessean , at-large Councilwoman Sharon Hurt is fighting to have Nashville International Airport named after the media mogul. The Oprah G. Winfrey Nashville International Airport? Councilwoman seeks name change https://t.co/hT7CPuMxMJ — USA TODAY Travel (@usatodaytravel) December 17, 2018 In November, Hurt submitted a proposal to the airport’s chairman Dexter Samuels and received some pushback, the news outlet writes. Samuels claimed that naming the airport after Winfrey would not align with their naming policy. Despite the obstacles, Councilwoman Hurt is continuing to push for the name change and will do whatever it takes to bring her vision to fruition. “It’s Oprah. Nashville is in a very unique position to be able to offer that type of recognition to someone that’s very deserving,” said Hurt in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I think it’s a grand opportunity for us to recognize someone of Oprah’s stature.” Hurt also added that the city of Nashville needs to do a better job of acknowledging the contributions of notable Black figures. She was at the forefront of getting the Metro Council to rename a part of Charlotte Avenue after Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oprah Winfrey has deep ties to Nashville. She graduated from East High School and then went on to earn her degree from Tennessee State University. She also launched her career in television in Nashville. The decision will be left up to the Nashville Airport Authority board. News about the possible renaming of the airport comes around the same time of the unveiling of President Barack H. Serena Williams’ Postpartum Issues Are A Lesson In Healing After Giving Birth

Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty Celebrity women like Serena Williams, Beyonce, Chrissy Teigen, Cardi B and Tia Mowry are finally keeping it real about how hard pregnancy and postpartum life can be for a lot of women. Imagine being in control of yourself your entire life then suddenly, nothing is how you had expected. You don’t feel like yourself or think like yourself. It’s like an out-of-body experience. Add the fact that you are responsible for another little life, and that is a recipe for a breakdown. Why didn’t our mother’s warn us? I identify with Serena Williams the most because she has always been a friend in my head plus, I’m also an athlete. I ran track as a child, grew up dancing with a performance troupe, danced all the way to adulthood, and also picked up pole dancing and aerial hoop habits. It’s obviously not tennis and I’m definitely no Serena Williams, but I was fit and dexterous before pregnancy, and I thought bouncing back would be a breeze because I had a smooth pregnancy through which I still worked out without complications. I seriously thought I’d be able to get back to my regularly scheduled program in terms of work, my body bouncing back, and balancing the new life I was responsible for with everything else in 6-weeks post birth because I was good at planning and executing my goals. It worked with my career and it worked with my hobbies, so why not my life as a working mom? That was extremely naive, but in a world where overachieving is the thing to do to the point where we sometimes get unrealistic and don’t allow room for going with the flow, I just didn’t create space in my brain for anything less than optimal results right away. My ego was dealt a devastating blow after attempting to work out following my 6-week doctor clearance was struggle city. My abdomen still felt like jelly and my joints were freakishly unstable. How could I not do my usual HIIT workout? It was all I knew. What about muscle memory? How could my body betray me like this? But it did and I was furious. I couldn’t resume working out the way I wanted to and developed back pain serious enough to have to visit a chiropractor multiple times. I was forced to take my time easing back into it, which was depressing. I started with lightweight workouts geared toward postpartum women , but it wasn’t until 6 months postpartum that I finally felt comfortable enough to get back into the dance classes, pilates, and HIIT that I loved and I still had to modify certain moves at times. In addition to all of the above, I still had career goals that I planned to accomplish but it took me months to mentally get back into a space where I wanted to think about work, and actually figured out a new rhythm with my baby. I’m two years postpartum, and while I am psychologically okay most of the time, my body is just now starting to feel like it can do the things that it used to. I’m at 90% and I don’t know that the extra 10% will ever come. I’m still getting used to my new normal. I still feel guilty about having ambitions outside of family, but at the same time, while I love my daughter, I understand that I also need to cultivate my career and personal interests in order to feel sane. In hindsight, I beat myself up for things I couldn’t control during a time when it’s important to take it easy. Sure, women have been having babies since forever, which is why people downplay the severity of giving birth and take the healing process for granted, but it’s always a big deal. Your body has gone through a major shift that can be traumatic in some cases (broken pelvis, weak pelvic floor, etc), and healing time varies. A lot of us try to do the most too fast like it’s a competition to see who can bounce back the fastest and we really just need to sit down, relax and nourish our bodies and spirits as much as we can because anything else does more harm than good. Postpartum life has a way of humbling you and Serena Williams is proof. We noticed that she hadn’t been playing tennis as fiercely as we knew she could and she eventually pulled out of the Rogers Cup, which wasn’t a surprise. If you read her now blown up  Instagram post  about how she has been feeling, then you understand what she’s going through. It’s hard for ambitious moms to take a break, but what matters most is that she listened to her body, her intuition, and her mom tribe, and did what was best for herself and family. She’ll be back when she’s really ready and there’s no time that anyone can put on it. The body knows and communicates what it needs, and patience is all that is necessary. A rare sect of women may actually be able to get back to business in a week or two, some women have no choice but to jump back into the fray immediately (because maternity leave in the United States is trash), but most women aren’t ready to resume daily activities and unfortunately, that’s something that we don’t talk about enough or lie about too often. It’s okay to not feel okay as long as you’re working toward healing (I still need to take my own advice on that) and it’s okay if it doesn’t happen right away. Everyone’s postpartum journey is different, but it’s time for all of us overachievers to surrender to the process as individuals and stop trying to live up to ridiculous standards. Kailyn Lowry: Did She Just Reveal Her Baby Daddy’s Name?

If you’re a Teen Mom 2 fan, then by now you’ve likely heard the news that  Kailyn Lowry is pregnant with her third child . You’re probably also aware that the identity of Kailyn’s baby daddy remains a mystery. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to who may have knocked Kailyn up for the third time, but not surprisingly, fans have done some digging, and some likely candidates have emerged. According to online sleuths and the tabloid media, the father of Kailyn’s baby is probably either her longtime friend Tyler Hill, Teen Mom 2 producer J.C. Cueva, or a man named Chris Lopez, whom Kailyn appears to have dated shortly after parting ways with Javi Marroquin. The bulk of evidence seems to point to Lopez being the father , and a new clue may have confirmed that theory. According to Radar Online, in an Instagram live stream, Kailyn appears to have let-slip the name of her baby daddy. The clip is no longer available, but those who have seen it describe it like this: Lowry and a friend are seen discussing potential baby names. Kailyn’s friend suggests naming the kid Holden, and that’s when the bomb drops: “Chris would say, ‘I’m Holden the baby!’” Kailyn joked while streaming live. Those who were watching say Kailyn covered the mic and the stream ended shortly thereafter. The clip appears to have been scrubbed from the Internet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from discussing the footage on social media. “So the dad is Chris,” one fan wrote on Kailyn’s Instagram page. “She said it was Chris, I’m pretty positive!” another commented. Reached for comment, Kailyn’s reps remained tight-lipped on the matter. Thus far, her team has yet to reveal any information with regard to the father’s identity or even as to whether or not he’ll be involved in the child’s upbringing. “We don’t know how involved the father will be,” Lowry’s manager said in a recent statement. “Kail will release that information when she’s ready.” If the description of the clip is accurate we think it’s safe to draw two conclusions: 1. Chris Lopez is indeed the father of Kailyn’s kid. 2. He and Kailyn are still friendly with one another, at the very least. View Slideshow: Kailyn Lowry: Timeline of a Turbulent Teen Mom Life We wouldn’t hold out hope for any more info, as Kail has made it clear she ain’t talking. Watch Teen Mom 2 online to relive the emotional roller coaster that it is Ms. Lowry’s life.

Rob Kardashian Claps Back at Haters: I AM a Good Dad!

Earlier this week, several media outlets reported that Rob Kardashian is not permitted to be alone with his daughter due to his persistent physical and mental health issues. “He is not in a state to care for her by himself,” one anonymous insider revealed. The news was a shock to many fans, as it came on the heels of Rob’s touching social media tribute  to 3-month-old Dream, as well as reports that the father of one had made tremendous progress in recent months. There was a time when Rob would publicly challenge reports that he’d fallen back into his old habits. Some believe the fact that he’s kept quiet thus far is a sign that he’s in a more stable place emotionally. Others say his silence is a clear indication that the reports are accurate, and that Rob is in fact not allowed to care for his baby without supervision. But just because he hasn’t clapped back in one of his signature social media tirades, that doesn’t mean Rob is taking this latest round of criticism lying down. Perhaps at the behest of his concerned momager, Rob has been holding off on explicit counterattacks, instead attempting to prove his haters wrong through his actions – actions that he documents on Instagram, of course: Rob posted the above photo of Dream last night, and it immediately began racking up the likes.  He captioned the image: “Drool on my baby lol ,,, Look how long her eye lashes are I will never say no this Woman lol” Now, it’s entirely possible that this is just Rob’s way of affection for his love for his daughter with his millions of social media followers. But it’s hard to ignore the timing of the love-fest. To be clear, we don’t doubt Rob’s feeling for his daughter, and we’re inclined to believe that he’s a perfectly capable and devoted dad. But the Kardashians don’t do anything without a thought toward how it’ll be perceived by the public, so it’s entirely possible that those who are interpreting Rob’s post as a subtle response to the latest speculation are absolutely correct. Now that Rob and Blac Chyna are broken up for good, we’ll probably see a lot more of this sort of thing, as Rob attempts to prove to his ex, to his fans, and to himself that he’s up to the task of raising a daughter. But if it helps to actually rise to the occasion of doing so, then that’s perfectly alright. View Slideshow: Dream Kardashian Photos: What a Cutie!
