Today, the city begins a new chapter as Steven Reed will become the very first African-American person to be sworn in as Mayor according to WGNO . Before taking the reigns of city, Reed was a Montgomery County probate judge who will now replace Mayor Todd Strange after he chose not to seek reelection. Montgomery was the site of the Rosa Parks-inspired bus boycott in 1955 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, as well as the destination of the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery protest marches that were met with brutal police violence and led to the Voting Rights Act. The nation’s first memorial for more than 4,000 victims of lynchings opened there last year. About 60% of the city’s residents are black. With all that baggage, Reed, who was born and raised in the Alabama capitol, is ready to take the city into a new era. “We’ve been unified on the message of opportunity and creating an environment where people can live, learn and earn,” Reed said. “We want to let everyone know that this is a new Montgomery,” Reed said. “This is a new day, and we’re going to be a great part and a great asset to this country.” Clap for ’em!

One of those huge names would be Joel Osteen . Who’s Mega church in Houston has really seen no end to growth in the Houston area. Now it seems Joel has caught wind of what Kanye West is doing with his “ Sunday Service ” and as any smart business man he wants parts. Rumors circulated last month he had invited Kanye to his church but it seems both have agreed on scratching each other back to make that happen. TMZ reports , that Osteen and Non-Voting-Trump-Supporter Kanye West have been talking on the regular. “We’re told the plan is for Kanye to show up at Joel’s 11 AM service in Houston this coming Sunday at the Lakewood Church. Kanye will walk up to the pulpit and have a conversation with Joel that will last between 20 and 30 minutes. Our sources say Joel wants his congregation — which stands 45,000 strong — and his TV audience — which stands at 10 million in the U.S. alone — to hear how Kanye has overcome significant adversity in his life.” If you’re unfamiliar with the Lakewood church they have a morning and a night service in Houston, Texas. The morning conversation is sure to dominate headlines into at least December. While the ones who want to experience Kanye’s “Sunday Service” will have to return in the afternoon. The pairing seems odd given Joel Osteen last flare up in headlines were due to him refusing to shelter hurricane victims. Well folks, Kanye West is back in the news these days, which means we’re spending a lot of time torn between our desire to joke about his bizarre behavior and our fear that we’re making fun of someone who’s off his meds and genuinely in need of an intervention. And it looks like we’re not alone in our concern for the state of Yeezy’s mental health . As you’ve probably heard by now, Kanye just released a new album entitled Jesus Is King. Now, we’re not saying the shift toward gospel-y sounds and lyrics is necessarily a red flag, but when someone who was already pretty religious suddenly becomes super religious, well … that’s often a sign that it’s a good time to check up on them. After all, it’s not like Kanye decided he should ramp up his church attendance. No, instead, he “asked” people who work with him to stop having premarital sex, which in addition to being creepy AF is highly illegal. Big difference there. Anyway, a new album means a new tour. And a new tour means Kanye’s wife is understandably concerned about the possibility of Kanye having one of his famous meltdowns on the road. Yes, according to a new report from Radar Online Kim Kardashian is taking steps to ensure that Kanye’s tour will operate as smoothly as possible. Now, this is a Kanye West tour we’re talking about, so we’re assuming some rough patches are expected — but an insider tells the site that Kim has assembled a crack team of private investigators and mental health professionals for the purpose of following Kanye and ensuring that all is well. “Kanye will be watched, even if he doesn’t know about it,” says the source. “He says he’s fine and doesn’t need help but Kim’s nervous so she’s making sure he’s under a watchful eye – or 5,” the insider added. The informant went on to say that the team members will report to Kim directly, and the hope is that Kanye will not be aware of their existence. “They’ll report to her and if there’s any warning signs she’ll essentially send them in,” says the source. Source: Karl Tapales / Getty Shooting At Church’s Chicken Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at a Church’s Chicken in San Diego, California . The whole incident reportedly happened after the suspected gunman attempted to pay for food using a counterfeit bill. According to reports from NBC San Diego , the shooting occurred at a Church’s located on Picador and Del Sol boulevards in the Otay Mesa community on Wednesday night. Before the shooting, the suspect, who was described by the San Diego Police Department as a “thin man in his 30s,” got into an argument with the employees over his alleged attempted use of a fake $100 bill. There have been conflicting reports around this case, however, about whether or not a counterfeit bill was actually the issue. Other reports have stated that the customer’s grievance was centered around a store policy which prevented the acceptance of any $100 bills outright. Currently investigating shooting at 3700 Picador Blvd. Suspect was a customer who got into argument with employees. Suspect retrieved handgun and fired. 1 employee killed, 2 others injured. One employee ended up dying from injuries sustained during the shooting. Accordint to the San Diego Union-Tribune , she has been identified as 28-year-old Maribel Ibañez. As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the fatal shooting.

We’ve been loving it so far. The acting is impeccable, especially from the legendary Lynn Whitfield who plays Lady Mae, the Church’s First Lady. We love ALL the ladies of “Greenleaf” though and that’s why our Sr. Content Director Janeé Bolden was so excited to sit with Deborah Joy Winans (Charity Greenleaf), Desiree Ross (Sophia Greenleaf), Merle Dandridge (Grace Greenleaf) and Lynn Whitfield (Lady Mae Greenleaf) at the start of the season. Check out the interview below: Janeé Bolden:So much has changed from Season 1 to Season 4, what are you most proud of in terms of your character’s development and what surprised you most, because so many allegiances have shifted? Lynn Whitfield: I think from where it started in the very beginning with Lady Mae being this really grand sidekick who kinda ran the show, but from behind, to now her really stepping into the role of not just running things as a wife but really feeling that she can save souls, really feeling that she has a calling on her life to actually preach. From where it started, because I don’t think it was ever even expected by the writers or anything, it just kind of evolved. It was just very surprising how the evolution of Lady Mae happened, and then I think also just the evolution where I never ever thought that we would lose the church, even temporarily. That never entered Lady Mae’s mind that there was a possibility of losing it. It was just always keeping all the superficial things straight and keeping it, so it really went to the wall with this one. Deborah Joy Winans: I think I just love watching Charity grow. I loved watching her walk through these trials. I loved her handling it not so great, because that’s real. I loved seeing her humanity. And this season I loved that she stands up for herself regardless of what anyone else things. Desiree Ross: Sophia has changed a lot of ways. If you watched the previous three seasons you know she’s had quite an arc. She started out atheist and then she was Christian, then she lost her ovaries, and then this season it’s kind of nice to see how she’s coping and kind of trying to deal with making sense of this world and why is this happening. I think she’s acting out of anger just a little bit, out of resentment and it’s been an interesting ride to say the least. But it’s definitely been fun watching her shift. She’s definitely growing and realizing the world is not as perfect as she made it out to be when she first found Christianity. Merle Dandridge: For Grace, I find her really searching for identity and purpose this season, because previously it had been about outside circumstances and how she’s going to put out this fire, or how she’s going to manage that or how she’s going to attack a situation, you know, whether it’s her business or not, she’s going to put her foot in it right? And now that she’s in the pulpit and she has slayed many of her demons, suddenly it becomes time for her to look within. When you are on the platform, you have to come with your heart bare and your conscience clean and her conscience is not clean, and some of her secrets and her skeletons come out and she has to contend with that. And in so doing, she clears out the extra cobwebs so that she can see clearly, ‘What has God purposed me for?’ And how is Grace going to, after she has mended these relationships with her family, how is she going to function normally, because they’ve never had that ‘Oh yeah, let’s come over for dinner.’ They never had that. Suddenly when we start to find a connection, a common purpose and we’re slaying a common enemy, how does that change their dynamic and who is she then? It’s very interesting to me, her growth, I think she’s become a little less hotheaded and a little more responsible for her own actions. Source: Janeé Bolden / Janeé Bolden Janeé Bolden: Desiree, as one of the younger cast members, what have you learned from your co-stars? Desiree Ross: I could say so many things that I’ve learned. I’ve learned to have fun. I guess on set when I started off I was kind of a perfectionist and I learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and to move past them and to try to do better next time. I learned to have fun from Lynn. Lynn Whitfield: Awww that’s so sweet. Desiree Ross: Merle, I don’t know how to describe. I work with Merle so much, she’s taught me so many different things. I think I learn a lot by watching her. The way she does everything, just the way she moves her eyes, it’s like perfect timing. She makes me feel really calm on set. So if something were ever to go wrong I feel good. And DJ, that’s my Auntie.(everyone laughs)That’s my Auntie. DJ really calms me. Desiree Ross: I think all of them kinda taught me. I feel like when you start off acting you come in a little stiff, and I think all three of you have taught me about messing with the character, don’t get too stuck, be able to move, be flexible with everything, and just to brighten up, have fun, you’ve taught me to look at multiple perspectives, not just looking from my own. Just from watching all the little nuances that you’ve added to your characters. I don’t know. There’s just so much. The last four years, there’s no limit to what I’ve learned. Deborah Joy Winans: We learned from you. Merle Dandridge: We love you as well. You’re just as open to us. Lynn Whitfield: That’s so sweet. Desiree Ross: And you know what else I’ve learned from them? That when you have good people around you, that’s really what you need. It’s very essential to keep really good people around you. To have a strong foundation. People that are uplifting you, people that are pushing you towards God, people that are pushing you to be better motivated and to just have more fun and enjoy your life. I feel like all of these women do that for me. Deborah Joy Winans: What a sweet little baby. Lynn Whitfield: A safe space. Desiree Ross: Yeah. They feel like my safe space. I love going to work. During the couple’s visit, which airs on September 13, they talked with Dr. Mehmet Oz about the journey they’re on to eventually have a child, including Meagan’s efforts to get in her best shape in preparation for their efforts to conceive a child. So yeah, we’re in a place now where we’re looking to do it.” And while the couple is ready to try, they revealed that months earlier, at the top of the year, they took the advice of Dr. Oz and decided that Meagan would freeze some of her eggs. “As I’ve come on the show and we’ve been friends for years, you always encouraged us to freeze eggs. We probably don’t need to tell you that Scientology is bizarrely popular in Hollywood — or that it doesn’t have the greatest reputation in the rest of the world. The reasons for this are as plentiful and insane as the Church’s millions of followers: We suppose it’s not surprising that a religion cooked up by a sci-fi writer and centered around space aliens and extreme narcissism would sell like hotcakes in Tinsel Town but wouldn’t necessarily play in Peoria. Still, as much as a cult that encourages its members to achieve success by battling the Martians in their soul seems tailor-made for actors and other film industry insiders, we’re always amazed by just how many celebs have fallen victim to Scientology’s bonkers claims. Take Brad Pitt, for example. These days, despite some rough patches in his personal life , Pitt remains so inarguably the epitome of cool that his dialogue in the Once Upon a Time In … Hollywood script probably consisted of nothing but the words “Brad says some cool Brad Pitt stuff.” But that wasn’t always the case. There was a time when Brad was just a young Missouran trying to make it in Hollywood and running into the same stumbling blocks as any young thespian. And it was during those early days of failed auditions and thwarted ambitions that the opportunistic bottomfeeders who operate the CoS almost got their hooks in young Mr. Pitt. Former Scientologist Sam Domingo — who was once daughter-in-law to famed opera singer Placido Domingo — recently spoke with Radar Online for a series of interviews in which she shares her most shocking memories from her 22 years as a member of the CoS. Domingo claims that in the early ’90s, Pitt and then-girlfriend Juliette Lewis were recruited for by the Church, but had the good sense to flee in the midst of a grueling “detoxification” program. “Brad was recruited in the 1990s during the time he and Juliette Lewis did a movie together,” Domingo says. “That’s when he was put on the purification rundown.” She described the “rundown” as “a program where they basically load you up with vitamins and you sit in the sauna and sweat for five hours a day.” “At least four kids have died on these programs,” Domingo claims. “Brad was doing the same one. He was in the sweat box.” But unlike Tom Cruise, who remains 100 percent in bed with these loonies , Brad apparently knows a fishy scene when he sees one. “He left! They weren’t able to keep Brad,” Domingo says. Thankfully, Pitt escaped and was able to portray one half of 2019’s most unforgettable onscreen duo (We’re talking, of course, about Cliff Boote and his attack dog, Brandy.), but Brad’s isn’t the only happy ending here. Juliette Lewis has enjoyed quite the memorable career herself, and it’s all because she too was able to break free from the Xenuites. “Juliette got in trouble because she got back into drugs,” Domingo claims. “She was in my course group refusing to study.
