You Can’t Be Serious: Portland Pimp Sues Nike For Not Including Warning Label Stating Jordan Sneakers Are Weapons!

We already know a pair of J’s can be bad for your health , but this is taking it to whole ‘nother level Pimp In Portland Suing Nike For Not Putting Warning Labels On Jordan Sneakers Via OregonLive A 26-year-old Portland pimp has filed a $100 million lawsuit against Nike, claiming the shoe manufacturer is partially responsible for a brutal beating that helped net him a 100-year prison sentence. Sirgiorgiro Clardy claims Nike should have placed a label in his Jordan shoes warning consumers that they could be used as a dangerous weapon. He was wearing a pair when he repeatedly stomped the face of a john who was trying to leave a Portland hotel without paying Clardy’s prostitute in June 2012. Jurors early in 2013 found him guilty of second-degree assault for using his Jordans — a dangerous weapon — to beat the john’s face to a pulp. The man required stitches and plastic surgery on his nose. The jury also found him guilty of robbing the john and beating the 18-year-old woman he forced to work as his prostitute. She was injured so badly that she bled from her ears. Says Clardy: In his three-page complaint handwritten from the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton, Clardy claims that Nike, Chairman Phil Knight and other executives failed to warn consumers that the shoes could be used as a weapon to cause serious injury or death. “Under product liability there is a certain standard of care that is required to be up-held by potentially dangerous product …” wrote Clardy, who is representing himself. “Do (sic) to the fact that these defendants named in this Tort claim failed to warn of risk or to provide an adequate warning or instruction it has caused personal injury in the likes of mental suffering.” Clardy wrote that he’s tried to starve himself and kill himself multiple times. He asks a Multnomah County judge to order Nike to affix warning labels to all their “potentially dangerous Nike and Jordan merchandise.” Oh. During his two-week trial and his two-day sentencing hearing, Clardy was known for his unusual courtroom antics. He shouted expletives at the judge, prosecutors and jurors. A psychologist declared him an anti-social psychopath who was 100 percent likely to commit violent crimes again. And Clardy disagreed so loudly — making such a scene — that he was removed from the courtroom. In the coming days, the suit will be served to Nike, which will then have an opportunity to respond. We are probably all better served if Mr. Clardy never sees daylight again. Image via Multnomah Co. Sheriff’s Office

SUNDANCE: John Hawkes/Helen Hunt Drama Surrogate Goes to Fox Searchlight

As sort of presumed, the John Hawkes/Helen Hunt-starring, man-in-an-iron-lung-virginity-losing, awards-ready indie drama The Surrogate made an impressive market showing Monday following its Sundance premiere, selling for $6 million — more than twice the figure noted in last week’s festival bidding-war preview — to Fox Searchlight. Not bad! The studio also has all but closed a deal on director Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild ; drop back by for more coverage of each from Sundance and, for The Surrogate in particular, from next year’s awards season. Ahem. [ Deadline ]

Taraji Henson On Her 2009 Oscar Nomination: “I’m Glad I Didn’t Win”

View original post here:

Taraji P. Henson covers the latest issue of YRB magazine where, inside, she talks about the struggles Black actors face, her relationship with Tyrese and why she’s happy to have not won an Oscar yet. On her Oscar-nominated role as a foster mother to Brad Pitt in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button : I really am glad that I didn’t win the Oscar that year. [African-American actors] have already won awards for playing those types of characters. I’m ready for us to win by [acting in] a comedy or a love story or just something different than the norm. On Tyrese and their rumored relationship: He’s like my brother, for real. That would just seem really weird for the two of us to suddenly get together. On Baby Boy : Baby Boy wasn’t just a black movie. Everyone can relate to a baby boy to some degree. He is not a color; he’s a person. I remember when John Singleton (the film’s director) sat both myself and Tyrese down in the beginning of filming and told us that he wanted to make a film that people would want to watch 17 times, and judging by how much it has been in rotation, I think John’s mission is accomplished.” On her new show “Person Of Interest” : I really don’t like doing television because I get bored, but when you get a call from a writer of the caliber of Jonathan Nolan ( The Dark Knight ), you kinda can’t say no to that. They really thought outside of the box when they considered me. Jonathan knew of my work and really wanted to work on a project with me. This is a three-person lead television show, and normally people don’t even think of an African-American in that context, but he thought of me right away, and so I decided to carpe diem and seize the moment. On her style icons: I have always thought Lena Horne, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe had amazing style. The things they wore were timeless, and could transcend time. T.O Makes His Acting Debut On “The T.O Show” [RECAP]

Read this article:

On this weeks episode of “The T.O Show” the trio heads back to Los Angeles but all for different reasons. T.O wants to get his acting on, Mo wants to spend quality time with her husband and throw her son a birthday party and Kita… well Kita didn’t really have a purpose at all actually, until her ex Joe shows up and ruined her mood. We’ve seen the situation between Kita and Joe unfold right in front of our television screens and we all agreed that Kita should leave Joe alone after he told her he was still married while they were dating. (SMH) After talking to her sister, Kita agrees to have dinner (let’s make this clear, it’s dinner NOT a date) with Joe to have closure about this whole situation.  At dinner, Joe tries to prove that he is serious about getting back together with Kita by showing her his divorce papers right in the middle of the restaurant (#thatawkwardmomentwhen…) and Kita responds by finishing up her wine in about 2.5 seconds tops. Kita agrees to forgive Joe but it unsure about giving him a second chance (Amen, sista) after all, she has Ted to keep her busy in the meantime. Meanwhile, T.O is getting his acting career started and gets a part in the film, “Dysfunctional Friends” with Stacey Dash. After Stacey pronounces T.O’s name wrong and he fails to correct her because “she’s Stacey Dash so she gets a pass”, the movie goes into filming and we see that T.O might actually have some acting skills underneath all that buffness. After filming wraps, T.O says that this was a good start to his career,  “I wanted to be an actor, so I put my mind to it and did it.” Must be nice to be a football player/reality star/actor all in one year.
