‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’ 3-D Trailer: Five Things We Want To See

We’re hoping for a peek at Perry’s backstage antics and her geeky alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, when the concert clip drops on Tuesday. By Fallon Prinzivalli Katy Perry Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images With the announcement that Katy Perry ‘s 3-D concert movie is set to hit theaters this summer, fans are already eagerly awaiting the trailer. Well, KatyCats don’t have long to wait since Paramount Pictures is premiering the trailer for “Katy Perry: Part of Me” on Tuesday! Perry never disappoints when it comes to her live shows — from costumes to sets to colorful hair, she always leaves fans screaming for an encore — and we expect nothing less from the concert movie. But while we wait, here’s what we’re hoping for from the trailer debut. Off the Road Perry is known for her fun-loving, spontaneous persona. And while we’re looking forward to seeing the concert footage, we’re also hoping for some unexpected backstage antics. Whether she’s pulling pranks on her dancers, making funny faces into the camera or telling jokes at dinner, we’re excited to see a part of Katy normally reserved for when she’s off-camera. Costumes, Costumes, Costumes From a whipped-cream-shooting bra to a carousel dress to her sexy take on a toy soldier, Perry doesn’t hold back when it comes to her wardrobe. We have our fingers crossed for a sneak peek at the singer’s outfits! We can’t fathom what lies behind her dressing-room door, but whatever she wears, it’s sure to be sparkly and bright. Her Kids’ Choice Awards red-carpet look on Saturday proved this yet again. Meeting the KatyCats Perry is a huge fan of her fans, and she’s known to hold countless meet-and-greets on tour. A few fan-encounter clips are sure to please her devoted KatyCats. We can only imagine how it would feel to wind up in the trailer for your favorite pop singer’s movie. Perry’s Viewpoint We’re used to seeing pop stars perform live onstage, but it’s rare to get a sense of the show from the artist’s point of view. We’d love to see what Perry sees when she looks out into the audience. Are the fans screaming and crying or dancing and singing? What’s the first thing she notices when she steps onstage? Is it a fan-made poster or the bright lights? A quick glimpse at what Perry sees is sure to be unique and interesting. Kathy Beth Terry Perry introduced us to her 13-year-old, nerdy alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, last summer in her video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Kathy was an instant hit, collecting more than 800,000 likes on her Facebook page. Her thoughts on mega-crush Steve Johnson and getting through the 6th grade were hilarious, and we hope to see more of her commentary — plus the bright-pink turtleneck and denim jumper — in the trailer. Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ Video: Frame By Frame

Director Marc Klasfeld provides insight into the kitschy homage to ’80s teen comedies. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records In Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” video , we see what happens when nerdy girl Kathy Beth Terry (Perry) gets a makeover and becomes the life of the party. Recently, director Marc Klasfeld sat down with MTV News and took us through his neon-colored tribute to ’80s teen movies, frame by frame. “The storyline is definitely ’16 Candles’ and John Hughes-influenced,” Klasfeld said. “And all those great ’80s high school movies.” The celebrity cameos come fast and don’t stop, beginning with “Glee” star Darren Criss, who drops in on Kathy’s bedroom to thank her for the “best party ever” the morning after. “Darren, he was great,” Klasfeld said. “He was in there for like an hour. He came in, nailed it, did his thing.” Criss wasn’t the only one who pumped out great work. “There’s Katy! One thing about her, she really took on this role, she dove right into it and did everything that was asked and a lot more,” he recalled. “There’s a lot of outtakes that we actually couldn’t show. She had a lot of fun with it.” “Friday” singer Rebecca Black also appeared in the video, as Kathy Beth Terry’s sort of Fairy Godmother. “Rebecca was great all the way through. She was really excited, and I think she looks great,” he said. “She looks like a Disney TV star in this, so who knows what’s next for Rebecca?” Black and Perry had to make fast friends when it came to the makeover scene. “This was a fun scene. [Rebecca and Katy] kind of first met in this scene,” he said. “We actually didn’t use wax [on Katy]. I think that was honey. She actually doesn’t have hair there to wax, but suspension of disbelief, as they say. And there’s her headgear off, and here she comes: the made-over Kathy Beth.” Once made over, Kathy is joins in on a big game of “Just Dance,” the kind of product placement Klasfeld said he tried to fit seamlessly into the clip. “It wasn’t this crass cut away to a phone or to a camera, and it kind of fit in with the theme of the video.” The video features a number of other cameos including Kenny G, Hanson and “Glee” star Kevin McHale, but perhaps none were as funny as the appearance at the end by ’80s icons, Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. “They were one of our one of our great cameos we had in the video, and we just roll with it here,” he said. “This was just pure ad lib.” Just when fans think the video is over, the credit roll provides a little something extra. “Obviously a lot of movies do this [credit blooper reel], but my influence for it was [1981 movie] ‘Cannonball Run’ because ‘Cannonball Run’ always had these great outtakes that went on forever,” he said. “We had so many outtakes, we could have let it go on for 14 minutes, but we had to stop at some point.” Related Videos Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’: Frame By Frame MTV News Extended Play: Katy Perry Related Photos The Evolution Of: Katy Perry Related Artists Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ A ‘Bold’ Video

‘I really hope other artists take Katy’s lead and try to not take themselves so seriously,’ director Marc Klasfeld tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records There are many stars in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” video , but perhaps none as sparkling as Katy herself, who director Marc Klasfeld said had fun playing dorky Kathy Beth Terry. “I thought it was really bold of Katy, who is such a sex symbol, to try something like this, but I also knew it would be received very well if done right. I worked with Katy on 3OH!3’s ‘Starstrukk’ and knew she could pull off comedy. And she is actually an incredible actress who dove into this Kathy Beth role with reckless abandon,” he told MTV News about the colorful romp . “I really hope other artists take Katy’s lead and try to not take themselves so seriously all the time. Sometimes, fun can be cool too.” Speaking of fun, Hanson , Kenny G and two “Glee” stars are hardly the only celebs that made the final cut, Klasfeld shares. “One more random celebrity fact that added to the video is that the video was shot at [‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actor] John Schneider’s house,” he revealed. “That added a special spirit to the piece. He’s got a pretty wicked house with all this classic ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ stuff up on the walls. John and his family were away for the weekend, thankfully, ’cause the house really did look trashed when we were shooting. We had a great art department who cleaned it up though and made it look brand-new.” Klasfeld was asked to turn Perry’s goofy Teen Choice Awards character into the lead for the video, and from there it all took off. “Having done many comedic music videos, I was immediately into it and wrote something up,” he said. “With Katy having four #1 singles, I wanted to make this fifth one into an event like Michael Jackson used to do. “The inspiration was obviously John Hughes, but also a lot of my own music videos that I did for Alien Ant Farm, Sum 41, Nelly and others,” he continued. “I always enjoy making these pop-culture mash-ups where comedy and random celebrities get mixed with the music into this brand-new thing.” Give us your review of the “Last Friday Night” video in the comments below!

Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ Gets Teen-Party Makeover From Rebecca Black

Hanson, Kenny G and ‘Glee’ stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale also guest-star in teen-movie homage. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records What happened “Last Friday Night” ? Katy Perry’s alter ego Kathy Beth Terry is trying to figure that out. In the just premiered video , directed by Marc Klasfeld, Perry pays homage to the teen flicks of the ’80s, with the help of quite a few famous friends. In the midst of a rousing game of sudoku, the brace-faced, headgear-wearing, nerdy Kathy seems initially mad at the house party going on outside. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, try to reason with the revelers and get them to stop, obviously. But those revelers happen to include “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, house band Hanson, with an assist from Kathy Beth Terry ‘s crazy uncle Kenny G, and “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter of whom has a mad, fantasy-tinged crush on Kathy. And soon, rather than put an end to the festivities, she’s drawn into the party, which includes the tropes from movies like “She’s All That,” “Can’t Hardly Wait” and about five flicks by John Hughes. After Black gives Perry a makeover, complete with spandex, big hair and funky earrings, she’s hanging with all of the cool kids. She’s drinking, dancing, vomiting and falling over drunk, while the song’s lyrics talk about regretting the Friday-night actions that are inevitably documented and spread online. And, of course, it all comes back to Saturday morning, when a hungover Kathy is both pleased and shocked by what happened the night before, as her passed-out guests and Facebook page remind her of it all. Her parents arrive on the scene, but they don’t seem too angry at her party-girl antics, maybe because they’re played by Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. The only real casualty of the party? Kathy’s solar system model! Related Artists Katy Perry
