Who Should Direct the Hunger Games Sequel?

Because despite all indications otherwise , Gary Ross has reportedly walked away from Lionsgate’s blockbuster sequel Catching Fire . Let’s come up with plan B! Via The Playlist : Though recent trade reports have spun the story as being an issue mostly about money, that’s pretty much a small part of the motivation. Ross has never been a filmmaker that repeats himself (going from satire in Pleasantville to horse racing drama in Seabiscuit and action in Hunger Games ) and we’re told the burning desire simply isn’t there to spend another couple of years with Katniss in the Capitol (evidently, he also liked the first book best). And while the lowball salary offer probably didn’t help, Ross already has a fairly lucrative career as a screenwriter (and rewriter) and money isn’t really the issue. Simply put, the filmmaker is looking to change things up for this next effort. Mazel tov, Gary Ross. But damn this creative vacuum. Who to call on as his replacement? What’s that guy who made Safe House up to next? My money’s on him. Or Paul Greengrass. The shakier the camera, the better. Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Kevin Jonas Reveals His Pole-Vaulting Past On ‘When I Was 17’

‘People laughed at me for a while about that one,’ the pop star says of his track days. By MTV News staff Kevin Jonas Photo: MTV News These days, Kevin Jonas makes a living as a pop star along with his superstar brothers, Joe and Nick. But there was a time when Kevin had to mow lawns for pocket money and, back in his after-school days, Kevin was a member of the track team. Yes, Kevin Jonas used to be a jock. “When I was 17, my favorite sport was pole vaulting,” Kevin recalled in this week’s episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” which also features stories from Katharine McPhee and Bret Michaels . “Freshman year of high school, my history teacher actually asked me. He’s like, ‘You’re going to join the track team. You should be a pole vaulter.’ ” After some skepticism about doing it and initially being confused by what was expected of him as a pole vaulter, Kevin quickly changed his mind. “I was like, ‘Oh, OK. Whatever.’ And then I realized what pole vaulting was,” he remembered. “And I was like, ‘Yes! Please!’ ” In the episode, Kevin’s uncle Josh shared just how much Kevin enjoyed the sport. “He loved it — he loved the challenge, always tried to go higher, the extra next level.” Now, Kevin spends his time at “Camp Rock,” but back in the day at high school in New Jersey, it was all about Camp Track. “Pole vaulting was my passion. I even went to a pole-vaulting camp, yeah,” he said. “People laughed at me for a while about that one, but it was cool.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Kevin Jonas, Bret Michaels and Katharine McPhee — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Lil’ Cease’s New Mixtape Is ‘Real Gutter, Grimy Beats’

‘It’s like a real underground album,’ the MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Lil Cease and Notorious B.I.G. Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Happy birthday to the one and only Notorious B.I.G. — the hip-hop legend would have been 38 years old on Friday (May 21). And, just like they did on the 13th anniversary of his death on March 9 , his fans, friends and family will be celebrating his legacy all day. One of Biggie’s closest confidants, Lil’ Cease, is not just going to play the tunes of his best friend — he’s putting out music that he feels the Notorious One would have been proud of. ” Everything Is Hardbody, the first mixtape dropping May 21 [on] B.I.’s b-day,” Cease explained. “I think that’s the day for it. It was just the timing around when I finished it — I was like, ‘This is a good day to drop it on. It’s the time when people are thinking about a Lil’ Cease or B.I. or Junior M.A.F.I.A. They’re thinking about us on March 9th or May 21.’ I was like, ‘Let’s go for that date. It will be something monumental, something special.’ When people think of B.I. Day, I’m sure I come to their minds. I’ll give them a whole 12-, 13-joint mixtape with some nice exclusive music from me. “I stepped my game up as far as the lyrics, concepts. It’s gonna show my maturity,” Cease continued about the upcoming mixtape. “I took time off from the music just to learn it. The music is different from when we was up and moving with it. You gotta be persistent with it, make authentic music. I took it back to that ’94, ’95 era. Thanks to people like Raekwon, who kinda made the music authentic again. You ain’t gotta do the dance music. I kept it basic. That real M.A.F.I.A. sound. It came out dope. I did all new music. It’s more like a free album. I wanted to do something different with the mixtape.” Busta Rhymes, Cardan and Fabolous appear on the tape as well as some new talent. “I got one I just dropped called ‘Just Here to Hustle’ with my boy Apollo Creed — he’s from L.A.,” Cease said. “We just dropped the video online — every site been showing love. I got this one called ‘Yessir’ — we about to shoot the video with my artist Cancun … it’s dope. It’s like a real underground album. If you liked the first Wu-Tang album, this is in that mode. Real gutter, grimy beats.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

A sequel to the video game Saw has been announced. Saw 2 , a grisly survival-horror/puzzle game, will be available for the PS3 and 360 this fall. The game, from Konami and Zombie Studios, promises “all-new stomach-twisting traps and puzzles, more visceral combat, and an all-new storyline that takes place between the second and third movie.” “The original Saw video game gave horror fans and gamers a new outlet to advance their favorite genre, but left them wanting more,” Martin Schneider, European Marketing & PR Director, Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH, said in a statement. “Saw 2 will give it to them, but be careful for what you wish for! Our successful partnership with Lionsgate allows us to advance the survival horror genre, giving players the most intense look into the Saw universe ever.” Hear that?
