Busta Rhymes ‘Honored’ To Be On Tha Carter IV

‘I was the last voice to be heard on the album,’ Busta Rhymes tells MTV News of Lil Wayne’s latest. By Rob Markman Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — With all of his versatility, Lil Wayne puts his range on display on Tha Carter IV . Songs like the acoustic-R&B “How to Love” and the John Legend-laced “So Special” show Weezy’s penchant for crafting female-friendly radio hits, while tracks like “6 Foot 7 Foot” and “John” revolve around Tunechi’s rap roots. The album’s “Intro,” “Interlude” and “Outro” also celebrate rapping for rapping’s sake. On the “Intro,” Wayne raps solo over a pounding, bottom-heavy beat supplied by newcomer Willy Will. Halfway through the album, Missouri MC Tech N9ne and Outkast spitter Andre 3000 appear atop the same instrumental on the C4 “Interlude.” Finally, on the LP’s “Outro,” Bun B, Nas, Shyne and Busta Rhymes take their turns over that beat. As standalone cuts, the three tracks feature some pretty aggressive rap bars, but we couldn’t help but notice that if Wayne were to string them together into one track, it might have been one of rap’s most star-studded posse cuts. “I actually close out Tha Carter IV. I’m the last voice you hear on Tha Carter IV, ” Busta Rhymes pointed out to MTV News on the 2011 VMA , black carpet. “It’s special because I didn’t know that’s what [Wayne] was gonna do with it.” With his rapid-fire verse, Busta boasts of his “uncompetewitable” rhyme style before toasting to Weezy by rhyming, “OK, enough of that, now I’m out the door/ Tunechi, thanks for giving us a whole ‘nother classic with Tha Carter IV. ” “When we did the joint, he didn’t really tell us how he was gonna put it together. All I knew was that when it was done, it was me, Bun B, Nas and Shyne, and I was the last voice to be heard on the album, so I feel honored for that,” Busta said. Although he had yet to hear the completed version of C4, Bussa Bus was excited for his friend and frequent collaborator, Wayne. “I didn’t really get to hear it in its entirety yet, but I hope that everybody understands that that man put his foot in this album,” he said. “From what I did hear, being in the studio with him, he goin’ ape sh– on it.” Share your reviews of Tha Carter IV in the comments below! Shia LaBeouf Calls Marilyn Manson Video ‘A Cool Diversion’

Unlikely duo will celebrate ‘Born Villain’ short film with book signing and screening Thursday in L.A. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Marilyn Manson, Narcissister and Shia LaBeouf attend the “Born Villain” screening in Los Angeles on August 29 Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images File this story under the most surprising of pairings: “Transformers” superstar Shia LaBeouf and Marilyn Manson have teamed up for Manson’s new music video, “Born Villain.” So how did these two artists come together? Well, they met at a Kills concert, where LaBeouf, a longtime Manson fan, casually approached the “Beautiful People” singer and struck up a conversation that sparked a genuine friendship. “Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure,” LaBeouf told MTV New, speaking exclusively about the collaboration for the first time. “He’s a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don’t know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued.” LaBeouf told Manson that he would love to direct his next video and showed him his previous work, Cage’s “Maniac” clip , as proof that he knows what he’s doing behind the camera. “I played ‘Maniac’ for [Manson], and he freaked the f— out,” LaBeouf recalled. “Manson goes crazy. Manson’s like, ‘I want you to do my video.’ ” The two then began prep work on “Born Villain,” which draws heavily from very intense, graphic imagery, specifically a famous French surrealist short film, Shakespeare and theology. “The song has all these references to ‘Macbeth’ and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson’s ‘Un Chien Andalou’ macabre ‘Macbeth’ — that’s sort of what that became.” To celebrate the LaBeouf-directed video, which is much more short film than standard clip, LaBeouf and Manson will be appearing together at a one-time-only book signing and screening Thursday at Hennessey + Ingalls bookstore in Los Angeles from 8 to 10 p.m. The 18-and-up event is private and limited to 150 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to receive tickets, those who wish to attend must purchase the limited-edition “Born Villain” photo book at the Hennessey + Ingalls website , which also comes with a copy of the short film. Unsurprisingly, the imagery in the video is very graphic and very adult. Those who only know LaBeouf from his clean-cut film roles will likely be shocked by this directorial effort, but LaBeouf isn’t worried about those reactions. “This, for me, this is a really cool diversion for me when I’m not making a movie,” LaBeouf explained. “It gives me an opportunity to work with musicians I admire who I would otherwise never get to work with in any other capacity. I really have a fun time doing it. It allows me to be creative in another art form and work with heroes. “I also think there are fans of mine who aren’t fans of Manson’s and vice versa; that’s why I think our collaboration is interesting. I don’t really see it on paper,” he continued. “I don’t see fans of mine who went to see ‘Holes’ when they were 12 loving this. I don’t think my audience is the only thing I should exercise my artistic muscle for. I don’t necessarily always do things for the audience; this is one of those. “I love Marilyn,” LaBeouf said. “Manson is like a brother to me now. He’s a real sweet dude, a real close friend.” Related Artists Marilyn Manson

Edward Norton Calls Marvel’s ‘Avengers’ Comments ‘Disingenuous’

‘My life’s way too good on too many levels to be over-intense about things like that,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Edward Norton Photo: MTV News A war of words broke out in July between Edward Norton and Marvel production chief Kevin Feige after it became clear the actor wouldn’t reprise his Hulk role in the superhero all-star flick “The Avengers.” Feige accused Norton of lacking sufficient “creativity and collaborative spirit,” while Norton took the high road , saying he was simply “appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers.” Months later, while promoting “Stone” at the Toronto Film Festival, Norton went into greater detail about his dust-up with Marvel. Feige’s accusations clearly still irk him, but the actor once again strove to avoid engaging in overly negative words. “The thing that was disingenuous about some of the stuff that had gone on is it was a very professional and very respectful business situation,” he told MTV News. “We really couldn’t work it out on a business level, and I know that’s disappointing to some people, but it’s nobody’s fault. I don’t have any disrespect for anybody’s decisions in the business framework. You do what you feel you need to do on both sides, and that’s totally fine. “I have no idea why anybody tried to characterize it as anything other than that kind of a decision, which is absolutely what it was,” added Norton, who took over the Hulk role in 2008 following Eric Bana’s 2003 turn. Yet Feige publically stated the opposite in July, weeks before Marvel announced that Mark Ruffalo would be next in line to play Hulk for the planned 2012 “Avengers” film . “Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members,” Feige said at the time. Taking such behind-the-scenes negotiations public was a surprisingly in-your-face move on Marvel’s part, but calling Feige’s comments “disingenuous” was as confrontational as Norton would let himself become. “My life’s way too good on too many levels to be over-intense about things like that,” he said. “I didn’t want to be negative about anything,” he said earlier in our interview. “I had a great time doing that. I was very happy to be part of it all. People’s response to that film was great. That’s everything you want. If you’re going to do one of those, and be in those long traditions of those things we all grew up in, you don’t want to be in one of the bad ones. So I’m really happy people had a good thing with that.” For breaking comic book movie news, columns and more — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood Call Off Engagement

Couple reportedly ‘fought a lot’ and ended their seven-month-long engagement last week. By Jocelyn Vena Evan Rachel Wood and Marilyn Manson Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood have called off their engagement. After getting engaged in January when Manson popped the question to his on-again, off-again girlfriend onstage in Paris, the pair has decided to split, according to People.com . They reportedly ended the relationship last week. UsMagazine.com reports that “they fought a lot. It was always on and off. He’s a creative mind so not the easiest person to be in a relationship with.” A rep for the “True Blood” actress hadn’t responded to MTV News emails to confirm the reports by press time. The two have reportedly always been very on-and-off. After initially dating in 2006, they split two years later before reconciling and getting engaged earlier this year. During their time apart, Wood was reportedly dating “Nikita” star Shane West. And it seems Manson is handling his broken heart by hitting the town. Manson, who was once married to burlesque star Dita Von Teese, and guitarist Twiggy Ramirez were seen getting their party on in Los Angeles on Saturday night. They had dinner at hotspot STK before getting their dance on at Boudoir along with Playmate of the Year Colleen Shannon. E! News reports that Manson also had an unidentified brunette with him and was introducing her to people as his new girlfriend. “They just broke off their engagement, and he needed a night out with friends,” one source tells People.com. Last year, Wood spoke to MTV News about Manson , saying, “We have the same sense of humor.” And she admitted that no one was too surprised by the pairing. “They would be more shocked about [my ‘Whatever Works’ co-star] Larry David,” she joked. “Nobody asked me why — they asked me how.” Related Artists Marilyn Manson
