‘Hell to the No!’: Gleebasing, Super Bowl Edition

If certain drug users are most at risk of overdosing on their first hit after a period of sobriety, then the epic midseason premiere of Glee , “The Sue Sylvester Shuffle,” certainly sent some Glee basers into the hospital. (Located right behind the Breadstix and across the street from the intersection where Schue cried in his car.) Not only was the over-sized episode a shock to the previously Glee less system, but it was a new strain of Ryan Murphy drug, cut with Katy Perry singles, fake breasts, BMX bikes and Mel Gibson jokes. Whatever happened to the pure Glee that they aired back in 2010? Now that was the good sh*t.

The Oil’s Impact on Wildlife

“Brown pelicans and other seabirds often dive into the oil because the slick makes the water look calmer. If they are coated in oil, they will be unable to regulate their temperatures, leading to hyperthermia. Plankton, tiny immobile organisms at the base of the food chain, can be killed by chemically dispersed oil. All four species of sea turtles in the gulf are threatened or endangered. Some have already washed up ashore, and with numbers already low, it would be harder to rebuild the population. Dolphins, which often follow boats to play, have been following response crews, getting near the slicks. Shrimp and other shellfish are more vulnerable to oil and chemical dispersants because they are stationary, while some adult fin fish populations may be mobile. Fish larvae are most at risk. Bluefin tuna, now spawning near the spill, are of particular concern. The Gulf of Mexico is one of only two nurseries in the world for bluefin tuna. Sperm whales, which spend most of their time diving for prey, may come up in the slick as they reach the surface to breathe.” http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/04/28/us/20100428-spill-map.html added by: DeliaTheArtist

Map of Bird Habitats Threatened by BP Oil Spill

Image: American Bird Conservancy Deepwater Horizon Spill + Birds = Catastrophe The American Bird Conservancy has created a map with recent NOAA data to show which globally important bird areas are most at risk from the toxic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. You can see a bigger version of the map by clicking here . The threat to birds come from three main things: 1) the oil killing them directly, 2) destroying or contaminating their food supply, or 3) destroying their habitat, especially where… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Maldives President scubas To stop global warming

A fitting place for the nation most at risk of being wiped out by rising seas to sign an historic SOS for climate change. COP15 is probably the most important summit ever and what was done today in the Maldives is not just a stunt, it is a reality that will not go away unless we act now to reduce greenhouse gasses like nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide. added by: southrabbit 1 comment
