Angelina Jolie’s ‘Salt’ 2 Picks Up New Writer

Angelina Jolie is one step closer to another helping of Salt as Columbia Pictures hits the negotiating table with Seven Years in Tibet writer Becky Johnston. Naturally with the 2010 original grossing $293.5 million, including $118,311,368 in the U.S., the studio has incentive to get a Salt 2 underway, especially with its irreplaceable star, Angelina Jolie, threatening retirement in the not-too-distant future . Columbia hired the first Salt ‘s writer Krut Wimmer to write the sequel, but Jolie had apparently scoffed at the script and had not committed to a re-do, according to THR . The studio searched for a replacement who could re-style the story that will satisfy all involved. Johnston’s other credits include The Prince of Tides (1991) as well as Wonder Woman and Brad Bird’s San Francisco earthquake story, 1906 . Johnston’s participation will be a departure from her previous work, though there’s at least one connection. Seven Years in Tibet , released 15 years ago, starred Jolie’s future partner, Brad Pitt. Sweet Baby Jesus! The REAL NFL Referees May Return This Weekend, Union Close To Reaching Deal With League!

In words on Lebron James: “It’s about damn time!” Referees Close To Agreement With The NFL To End Lockout The NFL and the NFL Referees Association made enough progress in negotiations Tuesday night that the possibility of the locked-out officials returning in time to work this week’s games has been discussed, according to sources on both sides. An agreement in principle is at hand, according to one source familiar to talks, although NFL owners have postured with a “no more compromise” stance. One source says the difference between the NFL and the referees “is about $2,” while another source described the talks as “the league wants double sausage and the referees want soy-free cheese.” Although league sources said it would take a week to get the locked-out officials on the field, the NFLRA says its 121 referees have been trained on the new rules implemented last season, have already passed physicals or are prepared to pass physicals immediately. New official game uniforms designed by Nike are “hardly an obstacle,” according to a source. Both sides have made concessions on previous sticking points such as a taxi squad of 21 new officials and pension plans that sources say the final meaningful hurdle is, as one source said, “about a little more money.” While league sources say owners who participated in a conference call with commissioner Roger Goodell during Tuesday’s talks had instructed the negotiating team to set a firm barrier for the financial settlement, the NFLRA is prepared to accept a new agreement primarily in the form of a “ratification bonus,” which would compensate its 121-member union for concessions it is willing to make. Blah, blah, blah we don’t care just get yo’ zebra-striped a$$es back to work cotdammit!!! Image via ESPN

Rick Santorum on Climate Change: Talk to the Plants!

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said yesterday that voters can trust his judgment on the environment … and that climate change is baloney. At the Gulf Coast Energy Summit in Biloxi, Mississippi, Santorum basically said that climate change is a liberal myth – in fact, plants are totally doing well! “The dangers of carbon dioxide? Go tell that to a plant, how dangerous carbon dioxide is,” he said. It’s true. Plants eat that stuff up like it’s their job! “I didn’t change as the climate changed,” the ex-U.S. Senator added, seemingly likening Mitt Romney to … the rising global temperatures he denies exist? “I stood tall. Now the climate has changed and everyone’s for drilling now. But please understand that when times were tough, they were not and I was.” In case it wasn’t clear, Santorum said he stands alone in the GOP field as the opposite of President Obama on energy, calling global warming a “hoax.” On Saturday, an op-ed penned by Santorum on RedState (dot) com explained: “The Washington Establishment would rather fight global warming than fight for American jobs … President Obama and his administration have decided to wage war against global warming and thus against the American worker.” “Those living on or near the Gulf Coast in particular know the impact these extreme environmental positions can have on the region’s economy.” What do you think: Is climate change real?

Bear Grylls: Fired by The Discovery Channel!

Perhaps he should have spent more time in the negotiating room and less time in the amazon… The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Bear Grylls, star of the Discovery Channel’s long-running hit Man vs. Wild , has been fired due to what a network executive describes as a “contractual dispute.” As a result of this disagreement, this insider says: “Discovery has terminated all current productions with him.” Grylls, who is releasing a memoir in May, has anchored Man vs. Wild since March 2006. The series features the star showing viewers how to survive in all kinds of conditions, against all kinds of elements and enemies. And it’s earned Grylls quite the celebrity following. Jake Gyllenhaal, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller have all tagged along for adventures with Bear. No one from his camp has commented yet on his ousting.

Comeback Season: NBA Players And Owners Reach A Tenative Agreement To Start The Season Christmas Day!!!

Sweet baby Jesus!!! After an exhausting, 149-day work stoppage that threatened to wipe out the first full season in NBA history, the league’s owners and players agreed to a tentative new collective bargaining agreement, commissioner David Stern and union executive director Billy Hunter announced early Saturday. The joint announcement, delivered by Stern, Hunter, deputy commissioner Adam Silver, San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt and union executives Derek Fisher and Maurice Evans just after 3 a.m. in a conference room at the New York offices of Weil, Gottschalk & Manages LLP, came after a tumultuous, 15-hour negotiating session that, according to those in the room, nearly derailed several times during the evening. “Despite some bumps this evening,” said a bleary-eyed Stern, “the greater good required us to knock ourselves out and come to this tentative understanding.” While both sides were mum on the details, citing a need to resolve the lawsuit the players filed against the league this month and get the approval of both the players and the NBA’s Board of Governors, here is what we know: Source Flip the page for some of the details that are known thus far.

Thai Prime Minister Speaks Tension Towards Protesters

The Prime Minister of Thailand didn’t expect the strong violence of the protesters who used weapons towards authority. On the national television, Prime Minister Abhisit Bejjajiva made an admission a day after he rejected the call from an anti-government protesters who hopes to dissolve the country’s parliament in 30 days. The demand from Thai’s anti-government protesters, known as the “Red Shirts,” was one of the strongest list issued since the group began to storm in parliament early April and that the PM declared it as a state of emergency. Red Shirt leaders offered Friday to return the negotiating table only if the government will meet their demands which includes the lifting of a state of emergency and accepting responsibilty for the deaths of protesters earlier this month.
