Netflix’s “The Get Down” Cancelled After Only One Season

“The Get Down” Gets Cancelled After One Season Bad news for fans of “The Get Down.” The Baz Luhrmann produced musical drama, starring Jaden Smith, apparently was a high cost for Netflix, racking in at about $120 million just for the first season alone. According to Deadspin , the show’s cost led to multiple production delays, which resulted in season one being split into two 6-episode bundles. Producer Baz, who’s most famous for directing films like “William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet,” “Moulin Rouge,” and “The Great Gatsby,” said in a Facebook post following that a big part of the cancellation comes from his inability to commit to dedicating his full time to a second season, because he has other movie projects that need his attention. “This exclusivity has understandably become a sticking point for Netflix and Sony, who have been tremendous partners and supporters of the show. It kills me that I can’t split myself into two and make myself available to both productions… But the simple truth is, I make movies.” It’s very rare that a Netflix series doesn’t return for a second season. Will you miss this one?? Netflix

Here’s What Mo’Nique Thinks About Adrienne Bailon’s Comments On Her “Classless” Keeping It Real Clapback

Mo’Nique Responds To Adrienne Bailon’s Keep-It-Real Criticism Mo’Nique has A LOT to say on her nearly decade-old beef with Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry, and Oprah Winfrey over the hard left her movie career took after “Precious.” While discussing the drama, the ladies of ‘The Real’ questioned if Mo’Nique’s potty-mouthed tirades were really the best course of action — either for closure, healing, or moving forward in her own career. Adrienne Bailon was particularly vocal in her concerns that Mo’Nique’s delivery was wild unnecessary and not conducive to…anything, really. Well, Mo’Nique caught wind of the roundtable discussion and, of course, gave her two cents on the matter. But she was feeling gracious today and gave Adrienne a pass: @theGrio @AdrienneBailon My loves. This BABY gets a pass. She is to young to even begin to understand. However @AdrienneBailon if you would like to discuss we open. — Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) May 24, 2017 @theGrio @AdrienneBailon @AdrienneBailon we await your reply sister. This is Mo'Nique. I hope I'm not being to loud for you. Lol. — Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) May 24, 2017 Mo’Nique says she’s paving the way for babies like Adrienne, who haven’t touched the peaks she has in their careers quite yet. @theGrio @AdrienneBailon @AdrienneBailon by the way I am fighting for young sisters like you who haven't won an Academy Award. — Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) May 24, 2017 @theGrio @AdrienneBailon @AdrienneBailon if u really want 2tell us something, my husband and I would b more than happy to come on the show, you can tell us directly. — Mo'Nique Worldwide (@moworldwide) May 24, 2017 All well and good…but is Mo’Nique able to make any press appearances solo? We know Mo loves her some Sidney and wants to have him chime in on everything …but jeez, people really want to speak to HER, since she’s the one on stage making these statements, and she’s the one whose career is directly affected. But we’re positive The Real will have her and her co-signing hubby in their guest seats by this time next week. Splash/WENN

Joe Jonas Still Stewing Over Westlife’s Battle Of The Boy Bands Win

‘I’ll get you one day, Westlife,’ he jokes about the Jonas Brothers coming in second. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News It was a major brawl until the very last vote. But in the end, Westlife beat the Jonas Brothers in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands . Each boy band put up a good fight, but the fans spoke and the Irish quartet took home the metaphorical gold. If you think the Jonas Brothers are holding any grudges, well … they are! “You know what’s so funny, I didn’t know about it until we were down to the last two,” Jonas told MTV News on Wednesday (May 9), two days after the polls closed . “Nick and I were sitting together, and he was like, ‘Dude, you know we’re up for this MTV thing?’ He showed me — and Westlife won.” Jonas had this strongly worded message for the victors: “I’ll get you one day, Westlife.” All empty threats aside, Joe noted that the JoBros went as far as they did during the battle, which saw heavyweights like ‘NSYNC, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys voted out early on. “It’s awesome,” he said. “There’s a lot of incredible artists on there, so we fell very honored. Thank you, MTV. Is there, like, a runner-up award? Or is it kind of like Ricky Bobby [in ‘Talladega Nights’]: If you’re not first, you’re last?” During the competition, little brother Nick told us what he thought would be the JoBros’ secret weapon during the heated competition. “I think that we are a good one to vote for because we play our own instruments,” Nick said. “It’s a rare thing for a boy band. … I don’t know of a whole lot of boy bands that do that.” Related Videos Battle Of The Boy Bands Related Artists Jonas Brothers Joe Jonas

‘Mob Wives’ Star Drita Working On Debut Mixtape

After her French Montana collabo, Drita tells MTV News she plans to get back in the booth. By Rob Markman Drita Davanzo Photo: MTV News Drita D’Avanzo didn’t plan to be a television star. No, the “Mob Wives” star’s first dream was to rock the mic. Now, thanks to a kick-start from French Montana , the reality TV beauty has finally gotten her chance. MC Drita recently starred in French’s video for “Everything’s a Go”; she even got a chance to lay a verse over the hard-edge street track. And it was all documented on a recent episode of VH1’s “Mob Wives.” “Honestly, it was the best feeling in the world,” Drita told MTV News on Tuesday. “That really was a dream of mine, growing up since the day I was walkin’, since the day I heard rap music it was over for me.” And like so many of today’s current rap stars, young Drita was first inspired by a couple of well-regarded legends. “My first favorite rapper — and always will be — is Rakim. Eric B & Rakim Paid in Full was a tape that I destroyed, that was completely wrecked and I had to re-buy,” she said of the 1987 classic. “But when Biggie came into my life, it was completely over.” Drita’s “Wives” co-star Carla Facciolo vouched for her buddy’s love for hip-hop. “This one will just rap every single word, she don’t miss a friggin’ beat,” Carla said of Drita’s reaction whenever one of her favorite rap songs comes on the radio or in the club. D’Avanzo was so turned on by her recent experience in the booth, she revealed to us that she plans to continue to make moves in rap and drop a mixtape. “I’m workin’ on it. I’m in the studio as we speak. And I love it,” she gushed in her unmistakable Staten Island, New York, accent. Carla is supportive, but don’t expect her to drop a guest verse on the upcoming tape. “I could be in the video, maybe looking pretty somewhere, but not rapping and not singing, definitely not,” she laughed. What do you think of Drita getting in the rap game? Tell us in the comments!
