Red Lobster Waitress Fired Over Posting Racist Receipt Gets $10,000 From Unknown Fundraiser Via ABCNews A Red Lobster waitress, who said a customer left her a receipt with a racist slur, has received the tip of a lifetime, thanks to a fundraising from online supporters. Toni Christina Jenkins of Franklin, Tenn., said she was shocked when she saw a receipt on the table with “none” on the “Tip” line and the N-word on the “Total” line. “I was just stunned that it happened,” Jenkins, 19, said. “It’s not something that you think in our generation would actually take place, so I was just blown away by it.” After posting a picture of the receipt to Facebook Sept. 10, her story sparked outrage online, prompting a California man to take action. Matthew Hanson, founder of AddictingInfo.org, heard Jenkins’ story and started an online fundraiser called “Tips for Toni” that collected $10,749 in place of Jenkins’ non-tip on the bill for $44.53. “It was about sending a message to racists that Americans aren’t going to tolerate that,” Hanson said. “We raised $10,000 within seventy-two hours. It was really amazing.” Hanson presented the check Sept 30 to Jenkins, who was unaware of the fundraiser. “I literally screamed. I was so confused,” Jenkins said. “I was just so thankful. I felt so blessed and so honored that so many people came together on my behalf to give this to me.” It’s always good to see signs that everyone in the world isn’t a evil d-bag. This sounds like a safe idea… According to The Daily Mail , Utah lawmakers aren’t too happy about the planned weapons training convention that’s set for tomorrow: The Utah Shooting Sports Council has said they usually gather around a dozen teachers each year for training to carry concealed weapons but this year demand skyrocketed after the tuition was offered for free. The powerful lobby claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut has been the catalyst for the massive interest, but Carol Lear, a chief lawyer for the Utah Office of Education said that the move was a ‘terrible idea.’ Arguing that teachers could be overpowered for their guns or misfire causing an accidental shooting, Lear said: ‘It’s a horrible, terrible, no-good, rotten idea.’ More than 200 Utah teachers are expected to pack a convention hall on Thursday for six hours of concealed-weapons training as organizers seek to arm more educators in the aftermath of the school shooting carried out by Adam Lanza in which 27 people, including 20 first-grade children died. The Utah Shooting Sports Council said it normally gathers a dozen teachers every year for instruction that’s required to legally carry a concealed weapon in public places. The state’s leading gun lobby decided to offer teachers the training at no charge to encourage turnout, and it worked. Organizers who initially capped attendance at 200 were exceeding that number by Wednesday and scrambling to accommodate an overflow crowd. ‘Schools are some of the safest places in the world, but I think teachers understand that something has changed – the sanctity of schools has changed,’ Clark Aposhian, one of Utah’s leading gun instructors, said Wednesday. ‘Mass shootings may still be rare, but that doesn’t help you when the monster comes in.’ Gun-rights advocates say teachers can act more quickly than law enforcement in the critical first few minutes to protect children from the kind of shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead December 14th at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
