Leah Remini: Scientology Looking to Make Example of Me

Leah Remini has opened up further about her leaving the Church of Scientology after she was subpoenaed to testify in a new lawsuit against the church. Remini split from the church in July, and feels that Scientologists want her to fail on Dancing With the Stars as an example of what happens if one leaves. Leah Remini DWTS Rehearsal Not the case so far. After last night’s non-elimination Dancing With the Stars results show, she’s already made the halfway point of the season so far. When she left the church, the former King of Queens star said she did so because Scientology officials were controlling and intimidating toward members. In 30 years as a member of the church, Remini served a one-year stint in the elite ” Sea Org ” religious order and was friends with high-profile members. The star was subpoenaed to testify on October 15 in a case against the church earlier this month, but the church has postponed her deposition indefinitely. Former member Monique Rathbun is suing the church and its leader, David Miscavige , for harassing her and her formerly Scientologist husband, Marty. Because of what Remini could divulge, lawyers for the church said they “don’t particularly want that deposition taken,” attorney Marc Wiegand said. “ “But we’re entitled to discovery on matters that are relevant, and this is relevant.” “Who knows what may come up,” Ray Jeffrey, counsel for the plaintiffs, said.

Leah Remini Files Missing Persons Report For Shelly Miscavige, Scientology Leader’s Wife

Leah Remini is allegedly still battling Scientology, and the whereabouts of the long-unseen wife of church leader David Miscavige is the sticking point. The actress has filed a missing person’s report with the LAPD regarding Shelly Miscavige, whose vanishing indirectly led to Leah leaving the religion. “Our missing persons unit informed us that [Remini] did file a missing person report on a Shelly Miscavige,” a spokesperson for the LAPD said. “That is all we are going to say at this time.” News of her LAPD filing was first reported by anti-Scientology journalist Tony Ortega, who also was among the first to report on her rift with the church. Leah Remini left Scientology in part, due to blowback she allegedly received after inquiring into Shelly Miscavige’s apparent vanishing in recent years. Ortega reports that when she inquired about her whereabouts, church spokesman Tommy Davis told her she “didn’t have the f***ing rank to ask about Shelly.” The blog noted that the unofficial word is that Shelly has been at the church’s Lake Arrowhead compound in San Bernardino County, Calif., since 2005-06. Neither David Miscavige (Tom Cruise’s best man in his wedding to Katie Holmes) or other officials have confirmed her presence there, or her health. Remini’s criticism of David was also said to be a key factor in her decision to leave the controversial church, which she insists she will not be silenced by. Scientology has not commented on the missing persons report.

Leah Remini Leaves Scientology, Calls Church "Corrupt"

The Church of Scientology has lost Leah Remini. The New York Post’ s Page Six claims that the actress has made a ” dramatic break ” from the controversial religion practiced by many celebrities. The Post says the former co-host of The Talk questioned and objected to many common practices within the Church, and criticized its leader, David Miscavige. “She is stepping back from a regime she thinks is corrupt,” a source is quoted as saying in Page Six, citing its “interrogations” and “thought modifications.” Moreover, Remini, 43, “questioned the validity of excommunication of people” or tearing apart families or abusing people “under the umbrella of ‘religion.'” The Post reports that Remini’s Scientolo-skepticism supposedly began, of all places, at the 2006 wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Italy. There, Remini allegedly inquired about the whereabouts of David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly, who reportedly had not been seen in public since 2007. After a Church official scolded her, the King of Queens star was “put through interrogations and blacklisted” and endured five years of “thought modification.” “It’s not about wanting or not wanting to do Scientology … The issue is that [Miscavige] is taking down this church and hurting people and families.” A rep for the Church of Scientology said, “The Church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no comment about any individual Church member.”
