Spanish Sexploitation Director Jess Franco Dies at Age 82

Jesus “Jess” Franco , pioneer of the sexploitation industry and director of over 200 films, died early this morning at the age of 82. After the success of his cult classic The Awful Dr. Orloff in 1962, Franco pumped out a steady stream of blood-and-boobies skinema often featuring lesbian vampires, women in prison , zombies , cannibals , naughty nuns , and works of the Marquis de Sade . He defied the odds at times when no financial backing was available by continuing to produce supremely sexy films with his signature hand-held camera and zoom shots. Franco passed away of unknown causes at the age of 82 on 2 April 2013 in Malaga, Spain. His longtime companion and muse Lina Romay shuffled off this mortal coil last year, and with any luck, they’re producing a lesbian vampire flick together in heaven. Never Before Seen Nudes: New Pics from the "Lost Films" of Exploitation Great H.G. Lewis [PICS]

This is SKINema history in the making! We interviewed Process Blue producer Joe Rubin yesterday here at the Mr. Skin blog, and he told us about their kickstarter campaign to restore three films by Herschell Gordon Lewis : the “violent lesbian Western” Linda and Abilene (1969), the erotic Blaxploitation flick Black Love (1971), and the go-go sexploitation romp The Ecstasies of Women (1969). All three of these movies are considered “Lost” and have never been released in any format on home video or seen theatrically in nearly 40 years ! Process Blue got their hands on the original negatives for these three lost classics (you can read more about it in our interview with Joe- SC) and are now carefully restoring them to their original glory. This is major news for fans of HGL and exploitation cinema generally, and Process Blue has given Mr. Skin a sneak peek at nude stills from all three films. And the Grammy for Best Nude Artist Goes to….

2010 was a banner year for cleavage at the Grammys, as the ladies of the music biz charitably showed off their chest clefts. Performers included XXXtina Aguilera , busting out of a slinky black gown, and Katy Perry , whose gigantic 32DD milk jugs deserve their own Grammy for Best Male Tent-Pitching Performance. Lady Gaga , freakishly sexy as always, walked away with the award for Best Female Pop Vocal. Despite her penchant for perturbing her audience with her fashion choices (remember the literal meat curtains she sported at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards?), Gaga rarely exposes her hoo-ha. Fans are left searching for unguarded moments of nip slip, like in her Alejandro video. But luckily, the Grammy for Best Nude Artist has some stiff competition…

R.I.P. David F. Friedman

The skinema world lost a true pioneer of poon today with the death of sexploitation producer David F. Friedman . Friedman produced a number of b-movie classics, from the pioneering gorefest Blood Feast to the Nazisploitation shocker Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS . Friedman started his career producing underground “sex hygiene” films in Chicago, before beginning a fruitful partnership with director Herschell Gordon Lewis. Together Lewis and Friedman produced dozens of films that preached the unholy gospel of sex & violence, from “Nudie Cutie” pics like Goldilocks and the Three Bares to “roughies” like the Defilers . With the liberalizing of the Production Code in the late 1960’s the film market become flooded with hardcore pornography. Friedman showed little interest in producing XXX films, claiming he was in the business of “selling the sizzle, not the steak.” Still, he continued to produce exploitation films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, coming out of retirement to produce Blood Feast 2: All You Can Eat in 2002. David F. Friedman, the Mighty Monarch of Exploitation, baron of boobs and blood, has left the building. He will be missed.
