Christian Bale Visits Victims of Aurora Tragedy

Without alerting the press beforehand or making any public statements while there, Christian Bale visited victims of the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado yesterday. Local reports confirm the actor spent two-and-a-half hours at the Medical Center of Aurora, meeting with seven patients there, according to Bill Voloch, the interim president of the facility. One of the victims, Carey Rottman, posted the following photo of himself Bale on Facebook, writing: “Wow!!! Thank you so much for the visit Christian!! What a great guy! Still in shock!” Added Voloch of the trip: “It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.” Over the weekend, Bale shared the same sentiments as many others associated with The Dark Knight Rises and said: “Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.” The Academy Award winner was accompanied by wife Sibi Blazic and also stopped by a growing memorial near the theater, which includes 12 crosses erected for each of the late victims.

Genes May Affect Weight Gain

Read more from the original source:

A new study indicates that genes may explain about fifty percent of weight gain that begins in middle age. Researchers studied sets of twins who served in the military during the Vietnam War. Some of the twins were identical and shared the same genes, and the others were non-identical twins. After twenty years of follow-up, the study now shows that genes account for about 1/2 of the weight gain among the men. Environmental factors, such as exercise and diet account for the other 1/2. Researchers say the findings may help explain why some people find it hard to lose weight. I Don’t Have Time To Exercise! Your genes and how they effect your weightA new study indicates that genes may explain about fifty percent of weight gain that begins in middle age.  Researchers studied sets of twins who served in the military during the Vietnam War. After twenty years of follow-up, the study now shows that genes account for about 1/2 of the weight gain among the men. Environmental factors, such as exercise and diet account for the other 1/2.Researchers say the findings may help explain why some people find it hard to lose weight. “We’re not acknowledging the strength of genetic factors in our weight loss strategies,” says James C. Romeis, PhD, professor of health services research at Saint Louis University School of Public Health, in a news release. “You’ve got this genetic thing working against you that helps to explain why you’re so heavy and why you may fail at weight loss programs and diets.” Cancer Patients Must Exercise To Prevent Recurrence In the study, which appeared in a recent issue of the journal Twin Research, researchers studied nearly 8,000 middle-aged, middle-class male twins who enlisted in the U.S. military during the late 1960s.At the time of their enlistment as young men more than 3/4s of them were considered normal weight, 17 percent were overweight, and 2.5 percent were obese or severely obese. Twenty years later, less than half of the men were still considered normal weight. Meanwhile, more than half had become overweight. The study showed that about 50 percent of the weight differences among the men appeared to be caused by genetic factors. Other aspects of their lifestyle and environment accounted for the rest. Although genetics may help to explain why some men gain weight more easily and have a harder time losing it, researchers say it should not stop them from trying to maintain a healthy weight, because weight gain doesn’t just happen overnight.

Nate Dogg Calls His Music ‘The Truth’ On ‘Yo! MTV Raps’

‘If it got that Dogg Pound flavor, it’s always going to be a tad more,’ he tells Fab Five Freddy in 1995. By Steven Roberts Fab 5 Freddy and Nate Dogg in 1995 Photo: MTV News Nate Dogg’s death Tuesday is still sending ripples through the hip-hop community, especially for his former Dogg Pound peers . Nate, whose real name is Nathaniel Hale, is believed to have died from complications due to his two strokes — one suffered in 2007 and another the following year . His impact on West Coast hip-hop could not be overstated, as Nate helped pioneer the G-Funk sound with his deep, soulful voice on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and his breakthrough collaboration with Warren G, “Regulate.” Nate was feature on a 1995 episode of “Yo! MTV Raps,” when Fab Five Freddy paid a visit to Cali to speak with Tha Dogg Pound and their affiliates, also including Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Sam Sneed and Lady of Rage. “You know Tha Dogg Pound got mad flavor, multiple flavors like Baskin-Robbins,” Fab Five said. “And one of the interesting flavors in the Dogg is my man, Nate Dogg.” A reserved Nate stepped up to the microphone, detailing to Fab Five how he made a name for himself on Dre’s and Snoop’s projects. Nate cited Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson as his idols. When Fab Five asked how he makes his smooth, soulful sound work so well with the rest of Tha Dogg Pound’s rough and raw delivery, he acknowledged the differences, but said they shared the same message. “It’s something different, what we doing, but it’s the truth [that] we are saying,” Nate said. “If you can relate to it, it’s always going to be the truth, and if it got that Dogg Pound flavor, it’s always going to be a tad more.” Send your well-wishes and condolences by leaving your comments below.
