Spring Breakers Director Labels James Franco a "Maniac"

Spring Breakers fared fairly well in a limited box office release last week. And the movie so far has generated a decent amount of attention because, well, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens get into a threesome. But director Harmony Korine has given fans another reason to go see this raunchy film: James Franco’s portrayal of a drug dealer named “Alien.” “I spent a year just sending him images and talking to him, designing the character,” Korine told Movie Fanatic of working with the actor on the role. “I never saw him do it. He didn’t want to rehearse. When he put in the cornrows and the gold teeth and I heard the accent… I was like ‘whoa.’ He was a maniac.” We presume he means that in the most flattering way possible. Jennifer Capriati Charged With Battery, Stalking

Jennifer Capriati, the former teen tennis prodigy and top-ranked player in the world, has been charged with stalking and battery against an ex. The charges stem from an incident on Valentine’s Day. According to North Palm Beach, Fla., police, Jennifer Capriati approached her ex-boyfriend, Ivan Brannan, at a gym and began screaming at him. When he tried to leave by going to the locker room, Capriati punched Brannan in the chest after blocking his exit; someone at the gym called the cops. The summons indicates that she “actually and intentionally touch[ed] and [struck]” Brannan and “willfully, maliciously and repeatedly follow[ed], harass[ed]” him. According to county records, Capriati, who’s had a host of (mostly minor) legal run-ins over the years, has been summoned to appear before a judge April 17. However, the retired athlete has not been arrested for the incident. Capriati, 36, turned pro in 1990 (seriously), then staged a remarkable comeback to become world #1 and won three Grand Slam titles from 2001-02. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year.

Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw Accused of Stalking Usher

Already squaring off against ex-wife Tameka Foster in court, Usher appears to be facing a new problem with a new woman. The artist has obtained a temporary restraining order against Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw , claiming she’s living in a dream world where Usher is her husband. In court documents, Usher alleges that Darshelle appeared at his home in Georgia, pounding on the front door until police were called to the property. She then left the area, only to return the next day and tell cops that she was married to Usher and simply misplaced her keys. At this time, Darshelle was arrested. Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw Defends Self Against Usher Allegations In the above video, however, Darshelle denies all charges and says Usher has been giving her money for a long time, while also promising to help with her music career. She plans to file a defamation charges against Usher.

Mariah Yeater dropped her lawsuit against Justin Bieber, but if she thinks she’s out of the woods after dismissing her paternity claim, girl can keep dreaming. Quietly, Yeater dismissed the suit last Thursday, after Justin and his team made it clear they would sue Mariah and her lawyers for their “malicious claims.” Guess what? They still are, because even though Mariah Yeater no longer hopes to extort money from the Bieb, she still made the claim in the first place. Justin is not backing down, according to the star’s publicist, Matthew Hiltzik, who says Yeater and her lawyers, who have since quit, will be hearing about this. “We intend to still hold them accountable,” he said. After Yeater claimed Bieber fathered her baby after 30 seconds of aggressive bathroom sex last year, Justin wanted to go after her and set an example that people who file baseless claims against celebrities do so at their own peril. She gave interviews to Star Magazine and The Insider , and possibly others, about the whole thing, too, meaning she basically lied about Bieber and got paid. You can bet she’ll be asked to pay damages REAL fast.

Cory Smoot, Gwar Guitarist, Dies on Tour

Cory Smoot, guitarist for the costumed heavy metal band Gwar, was found dead Thursday after a concert in Minneapolis in the midst of a six-week tour. According to Fox News, Cory Smoot’s body was discovered on the rock group’s tour bus just before it was due to cross the border north into Canada. Here’s Smoot and Gwar playing what would be his final show Nov. 2: Cory Smoot and Gwar in Concert Gwar’s frontman, David Brockie, said in a statement: “It is with a sense of profound loss and tragedy that the members of Gwar announce the passing of their longtime guitarist and beloved friend Cory Smoot.” “Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. At this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother, one of the most talented guitar players in metal today.” Smoot, who was 34, assumed the onstage alias of Flattus Maximus when he joined the Intergalactic Mutant Overlords in 2002 and had been with them since. Famed for its freaky horror costumes, metal anthems and stage antics like dousing fans in fake blood since 1984, Gwar played Late Night last week. Despite Smoot’s unexpected passing, his bandmates say the show must go on. Gwar plans to remain out on the road and play Friday in Edmonton.

While Justin Bieber fights off questions about Mariah Yeater , his unlikely 30-second-stand/baby mama, the singer’s actual girlfriend was in court this week, dealing with a far more serious problem. Gomez had her restraining order extended today against Thomas Brodnicki, the nut job in custody on federal stalking charges for making repeated threats against the singer. As part of this morning’s hearing, Detective Jose Viramontes swore in a declaration that he interviewed Brodnicki, and the man “reiterated that he had many conversations with God about killing Ms. Gomez.” In conclusion, Viramontes stated before a judge that the stalker poses a “credible, serious threat” to Gomez. The saga of Anthony Weiner and his stable of online friends continues to grow more ridiculous by the moment. Here’s the latest: Ginger Lee, a porn star who says the Congressman coached her through the scandal as it broke, has hired attention-loving attorney Gloria Allred to represent her against a series of mysterious threats. Protecting her client from whatever may be released in the future, Allred told TMZ this morning: “Ms. Lee has asked me to issue this statement, because an individual has threatened her with a release of another statement which purports to be from her, but which she has not authorized. “Ginger would like it to be known that she has not authorized any person, except me, her attorney, to issue statements on her behalf. Any unauthorized statement may contain inaccuracies and should be viewed with suspicion and not published.” In other words: some dude is about to reveal explosive information about Lee and she’s trying to stay ahead of it.
