The actor’s busy 2011 could earn him a trio of Golden Popcorn statuettes. By Amy Wilkinson Ryan Gosling in “Drive” Photo: Bold Films In between brokering peace in New York’s East Village , suffering a snub at the hands of the People ‘s Sexiest Man Alive nomination committee and giggling over his own Internet meme , Ryan Gosling somehow found time to release three well-received films in 2011. So it should come as no surprise that the actor acquired a number of nods Monday when the 2012 MTV Movie Awards nominations were announced. The 31-year-old racked up three nominations: Best Male Performance and Best Gut-Wrenching Performance for the action flick “Drive” and Best Kiss (along with co-star Emma Stone) for the romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Gosling’s other 2011 film, “The Ides of March,” was not nominated. Gosling is no stranger to MTV’s Golden Popcorn, having won a statuette in 2005 for Best Kiss with his “Notebook” co-star (and former girlfriend) Rachel McAdams. Their onstage re-creation of the smoldering smooch is still one of the Movie Award ceremony’s most memorable moments. This year, however, Gosling and Best Kiss co-nominee Stone face stiff competition in the form of “Twilight” lovebirds Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who’ve won the honor three years running. Elsewhere, Gosling will face Bryce Dallas Howard (“The Help”), Channing Tatum and Rob Riggle (“21 Jump Street”), Tom Cruise (“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), and the women of “Bridesmaids” for Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, while Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2”), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“50/50”), Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games”) and Channing Tatum (“The Vow”) will be his competition for Best Male Performance. Track’s producer, SpaceGhostPurrp, is a onetime Taylor Gang detractor, Wiz tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News If Wiz Khalifa had let a little dis song get to him, his fans would have missed out on some pretty cool music. In fact, “T.A.P.” — one of Khalifa’s favorite songs off of his latest Taylor Allderdice mixtape — was produced by A$AP Rocky producer SpaceGhostPurrp, a onetime Taylor Gang detractor. For those unfamiliar with Purrp’s catalog, in 2011 he released a song called “F— Taylor Gang,” on which he rapped, “This ain’t no Wiz, so f— a Khalifa.” The song didn’t hit Wiz’s radar at first, but the Purrp-produced A$AP Rocky track “Pretty Flacko” did. “I love that beat. I’m like, ‘Man, that beat is hard as hell,’ ” Wiz said when he appeared on last week’s “RapFix Live.” After hearing “Pretty Flacko,” which dropped on New Year’s Day, the Taylor Gang captain immediately took to Twitter to express his appreciation for SpaceGhost’s work. Shortly after, the emerging producer hit Wiz back suggesting that they record a song together, and of course Khalifa agreed. “Then somebody was like, ‘You know he put out a song about you,’ ” Wiz recalled of how he first learned about “F— Taylor Gang.” “I checked the song out and when I listened to it I kinda figured out what it was,” Wiz explained, not taking offense at Purrp’s lyrics. “Just being young people and being competitive, going for a spot, you don’t always know that it’s cool to let somebody know that you’re a fan of theirs, and that’s why I always try to reach back to people who are in their early stages and let ’em know I listen to your music and I like your music.” After hearing the track, the “Black and Yellow” MC cleared the air with SGP. “After that he sent me that crazy beat, and me and Juicy went in,” Wiz said of how “T.A.P.” came about. Odd Future’s Domo Genesis found himself in a similar situation when he and Wiz collaborated on their “Ground Up” single in February. Domo, who released his debut album, Rolling Papers, online for free in 2010 took exception when Khalifa announced that he’d be releasing an LP with the same name a few months later. There was some back and forth on Twitter, but eventually Wiz and the OF spitter were able to work it out when they randomly met in a Santa Monica, California, studio. “I knew he was gonna bring up the Rolling Papers thing, and it came up. It was cool — it happened a long time ago,” Domo said when he and the rest of Odd Future appeared on “RapFix Live” in March . ‘As long as Juvie living, it’s definitely possible,’ MC tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Juvenile on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Before Lil Wayne became the solo rap superstar he is today, he was making his mark as a member of a noted hip-hop group: The Hot Boys consisted of Juvenile , B.G., Turk and a teenaged Tunechi, and together they broke down doors for independent Southern artists everywhere by establishing Cash Money Records as a musical powerhouse. The quartet dropped their debut LP, Get It How U Live!!, in 1997, which they followed two years later with their platinum sophomore album, Guerilla Warfare, but the group was rendered defunct after Juvie, B.G. and Turk left Cash Money to take on new ventures. Fans have since longed for a reunion. On Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” Juvenile said of a reunion, “It’s possible. As long as Juvie living, it’s definitely possible.” Though he isn’t signed to YMCMB, Juvie maintains a relationship with both Wayne and Birdman. “I got a relationship with Cash Money; me and Baby still cool. We don’t talk every day, but we do talk, and we can stand in a room together. It’s not a situation where I’m beefed out with them,” he explained. Add DJ Khaled to the list of folks awaiting a comeback for the group. Sitting next to Juvenile on the “RapFix Live” couch, Khaled said, “I’m a fan first when it comes down to the Hot Boys, and it’s the whole Cash Money era, so Juvie already know and Bird already know, I would love to see that.” Unfortunately, there won’t be a full Hot Boys reunion any time soon because both Turk and B.G. are currently imprisoned. In 2005, Turk was convicted of multiple firearm-possession charges after a 2004 shooting incident with a police officer. In December of last year, B.G. plead guilty to felony weapons-possession charges stemming from a 2009 arrest. “B.G. got dealt a bad hand,” Juvie said. “He’d had his run-ins with the law through the years, so I guess this one caught up with him.” What’s your favorite Hot Boys song? Pittsburgh MC confirms to MTV News video was shot in his hometown. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. After Wiz Khalifa and Stargate found success with the 2010 #1 hit single “Black and Yellow,” why wouldn’t they team up again for Khalifa’s upcoming O.N.I.F.C. LP? On Monday (April 23), Wiz dropped “Work Hard Play Hard,” the first single from O.N.I.F.C. The new track isn’t as bright as “Black and Yellow” or “Roll Up,” the second Stargate-produced Rolling Papers hit, but it is still as effective. “It’s crazy. We shot the video in Pittsburgh,” Wiz told MTV News last week on the set of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” video . “It’s wild, just linking back up with Stargate, making another hit and gearing up for the second album, O.N.I.F.C. We’re about to do it all over again.” The bouncy track begins with a kinetic drum pattern that builds as the producers add a booming bass and dark synth melodies. “Diamonds all on my brain n—a/ Gold watches, gold chain n—a/ Yeah, my money insane n—a,” Wiz spits, clearly enjoying the spoils of his success. When he first arrived as a certified rap star in 2010, with his Taylor Gang fanbase in tow, Wiz sported an array of tattoos, tank tops, camouflaged shorts, Converse sneakers and rolled marijuana joints as his uniform. It is a style the Pittsburgh rapper feels many have adopted from him, and now he is ready to switch. He makes note of that on “Work Hard Play Hard” when he rhymes: “If I’m in the club, I get a 100 stacks/ I’m always rollin’ up, so I get love for that/ Them n—as stole my swag, but I don’t want it back.” While the song’s verses are filled with rapper angst, Khalifa shows that he hasn’t lost his penchant for delivering catchy and melodic hooks. “The bigger the bill, the harder you ball/ Well, I’m throwin’ mine, ’cause my money long,” he sings on a chorus that is sure to stick in the brains of his dedicated fans. O.N.I.F.C. isn’t scheduled to drop until August, but already, the TGOD captain is promising a fun ride. He has already secured guest spots from Chris Brown, Cam’ron, Pharrell and, of course, the members of his Taylor Gang crew. About the album, Wiz said, “It’s gonna be amazing. People should look for the complete package, so I don’t wish to separate anything from anything. The single is amazing, ‘Work Hard Play Hard.’ It’s gonna be stupid.” What do you think of Wiz Khalifa’s “Work Hard Play Hard”? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa
It’s his prerogative . Via TMZ reports : Bobbi Kristina’s older brother Landon Brown doesn’t sound very supportive of her new relationship with Nick Gordon — in fact, he sounded like he’d like to have a nice man-to-man chat with Mr. Gordon. Our photog spotted Brown at JFK yesterday, where he said he wasn’t worried in the slightest about his dad’s recent arrest for DUI. But when we asked him about Bobbi and Nick, he sounded more like a concerned older brother, telling us, “You should worry about me and Nick … My little sister is still a child.” The next Brown family gathering should be fun. Wiz Khalifa took to his Tumblir to talk about his last album. He admits it wasn’t his best. WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT “Im high as fuck and don’t even know to start this so ima just say thank you to everyone who’s supported the TAYLOR GANG movement and showed love up to this point. We’ve all grown so much since i first came onto the scene and most of all inspired a whole new generation of muh fuggas who aren’t afraid to be themselves and unite. Before there were Taylors, the game was lacking fun, unity, positivity, and love for one another. Shit, your favorite rappers weren’t even getting paid well. You guys changed that, and the game shld forever be in debt to you. I remember getting 500 dollars for a show to fly out and see kids who had no idea what a wiz khalifa was, and you crazy muh fuggas showed up. Had a great time, and spread the word. Its ya’lls spirit who revived the rap game and brought back the true art to this shit. Your demand for live shows made it possible for a lot of rappers to come from nothing and feed their families. Promoters too, more kids are managers, dj’s videographers. Shit everyones eating. Thanx to you Taylors!!!! Take credit for that shit. Lol Moving forward we gotta take that positivity with us. Theres tons of different crews now which is so inspiring because people are finding their own voice and unique lane. As Taylor Gang WE FUCK WIT EVERYBODY.
