Lindsay Lohan Will Play Elizabeth Taylor

‘I am very honored to have been asked to play this role,’ Lohan says of the Lifetime movie ‘Liz and Dick.’ By Kara Warner Lindsay Lohan and Elizabeth Taylor Photo: Getty Images After a few months of will-she-or-won’t-she debate as to whether Lindsay Lohan would actually appear in a made-for-TV biopic about Elizabeth Taylor, we finally have confirmation that she will officially take on the role of the Hollywood icon in the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick.” According to the network’s official announcement obtained by Deadline , the story will revolve around the torrid and headline-grabbing romance between the blue-eyed beauty and Hollywood leading man Richard Burton. The two megastars were the original Brangelina, and their tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day. “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in the statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.” This isn’t the first time Lohan has portrayed a legend. She’s done a few Hollywood pinup-inspired photo, including her Marilyn Monroe-esque photo shoot for Playboy, which garnered record sales when she graced the cover. “We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming for Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.” Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles. WATCH: Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman in HBO’s Hemingway & Gelhorn

I’m not quite sold on Clive Owen as Ernest Hemingway, Nicole Kidman as his war-correspondent third wife, Martha Gellhorn, or the sumptuous look of director Philip Kaufman’s take on war-torn WWII-era Europe, but here’s your first look at the May “epic motion picture event” Hemingway & Gellhorn . It immediately calls to mind Kaufman’s Henry & June , what with the tempestuous mid-century literary marriage and famous faces playing historical figures — David Straithairn as John Dos Passos! Lars Ulrich as Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens?? — but the trailer never lets you forget you’re watching Big Time Movie Stars, which is kind of the problem. Thoughts? [ HBO ]

RIP Jane Russell [PICS, VIDEO]

Jane Russell , archetype of the brunette bombshell and star of The Outlaw (1943) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) , has ridden off into the sunset at age 89. The voluptuous Miss Russell was discovered working in a doctor’s office by eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes , who according to legend designed the first push-up bra to cradle Jane’s bountiful bouncing boobs. Hughes cast her as the tempestuous Rio McDonald in The Outlaw, where Jane’s cleavage was deemed so scandalous that the film’s release was delayed several years. Jane and her unmanageably massive milk jugs went on to star in dozens of films throughout the 1950’s; she is best remembered for her Westerns and her musical collaborations with Marilyn Monroe. Jane’s film career tapered off after 1958, but she was the face of Playtex bras in the 1970s and 1980s (“for full figured gals”) and continued singing in nightclubs until 2008. Jane was a true titan of titillation for generations of men and will be missed by funbag fans the world over.
