Lisa Whelchel Has West Nile Virus; Survivor Philipines Star Expects Full Recovery

Lisa Whelchel is still in the running for the $1 million prize on Survivor: Philipines, but first she must outwit, outplay and outlast an unexpected new adversary: West Nile virus. “Dr. just called with blood test results … I have West Nile . Ugh,” Welchel, 49, tweeted, adding that she should recover fully and is more or less “fine, just tired.” Spread by mosquitos, West Nile’s symptoms include fatigue, headaches and body aches. Whelchel did not say if she contracted it during the reality series. Although there is no treatment for the virus, the majority of those infected do not suffer permanent health effects. Hopefully, Lisa falls into that majority. “I’ve been very touched by all the sweet tweets. Other than tired, I’m feeling fine & expecting a full recovery,” Welchel added. “So grateful for you. Thanks!” Now a part of Survivor’s final eight competitors, Welchel is optimistic. “I’m not one of those that say, ‘Yeah, I’m going to win,’ because there’s so many things that could happen,” she recently told Us . “But I think I could!” We’ll be on Team Lisa the rest of the way for sure.

Chris Brown is embarking on a new phase of his career. The controversial, 23-year-old singer signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina, WWD reports, in hopes of landing new fashion and beauty endorsements. “Art and style has always played a significant role in my life; it’s evolved with me throughout my career,” Brown said of his new gig in a statement. Three years after assaulting then-GF Rihanna, and despite a string of questionable actions since, Breezy is considered a marketable brand these days. “Chris Brown is a multifaceted artist with a unique take on style, and we are excited to translate and extend his brand,” said Taylor Hendrich, director of Wilhelmina Men. Brown said earlier this month that “I can’t hate people for making judgment on me or not liking me. Lauren Scruggs on Recovery: It’s a Miracle

Lauren Scruggs feels lucky to be alive – even blessed. This, after she accidentally walked into a propeller and lost her left hand and eye. Her mental state is just as astounding as her physical recovery. “It’s kind of weird to say, but I wouldn’t trade it,” the 24-year-old model and blogger says. ” I’ve seen it as a miracle . I’ve been through a lot but I’m living.” Scruggs tells People that she’s adjusting to her prosthetic eye and several different prosthetic arms, plus re-learning how to tie her shoes and drive. It’s hard, but she’s coping. Make that thriving. “Sometimes it’s easy to dwell on the fact that I don’t look the same,” says Scruggs, who is releasing a memoir written with her family this week. “But every day I’m feeling better and better.” Says her father, Jeff: “You don’t take life for granted anymore.” Inspiring story and individual, triumphing over adversity.
