‘Teen Wolf’ Stars Promise ‘Blood, Shirtless Men And Mystery’

‘Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on,’ Tyler Posey says of show’s post-Movie Awards premiere. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Chris Kim Tyler Posey as Scott McCall in “Teen Wolf” Photo: MTV For fans of all things supernatural, Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards were made for you. Thanks to exclusives from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and the big premiere of the new MTV series “Teen Wolf” right after the show, it’s all about sexy creatures of the night. So why should you check out the latest incarnation of “Teen Wolf”? Well, the stars gave MTV News some really convincing reasons. For one, Tyler Hoechlin said, “There’s a lot of mystery.” Crystal Reed added, “Two, there’s a lot of shirtless men,” and Tyler Posey added, “There’s a lot of blood, and that’s all you need in life: blood, shirtless men and mystery. Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on. It’s just going to be a really cool show.” With a werewolf and a pretty girl at the center of the romance of the show, it’s easy to make comparisons to “Twilight.” Posey happens to play a teen wolf on “Teen Wolf” just like Taylor Lautner, but he explained the big difference between his show’s wolves and, you know, those other ones. “We’re not the only werewolves here at the MTV Movie Awards. The kids from ‘Twilight’ also have a couple werewolves of their own, but do they match up to us?” he asked. “My argument [is], we will win in a fight because we have opposable thumbs and we can jab their eyes out, and what’s cooler than jabbing another werewolves’ eyes out?” Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. ‘Teen Wolf’ TV Series Is ‘Almost Nothing’ Like ’80s Film, Stars Say

‘We’ve got our own thing going on,’ Tyler Posey says of upcoming MTV show. By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Tyler Posey Photo: 3 Arts Entertainment Although we were distracted by the presence of powerhouse pop stars Justin Bieber, Drake and Lady Gaga on our fancy white carpet at Sunday’s VMAs , our supernatural senses kicked in when the three young stars of “Teen Wolf” swung by. The series, which is based on the original cult teen comedy made famous by star Michael J. Fox, was picked up by MTV earlier this year and is set to debut in 2011. “The shoes of Michael J. Fox are so big to fill, it’s just he did his own thing,” star Tyler Posey told MTV News of the inevitable comparisons between the reboot and the original. “We’re definitely doing our own thing. We are doing a remake of ‘Teen Wolf,’ but it’s almost nothing like the original movie. We’ve got our own thing going on.” “I think I’m more excited than nervous,” co-star Tyler Hoechlin added. “We’re excited to get going. [Creator] Jeff [Davis]’s been doing a great job setting it up for us, so we just have to go have fun.” Back in July, the boys dished a few more details about the show at San Diego Comic-Con . “When I first heard about the show, that they were doing ‘Teen Wolf,’ I was pretty stoked about it because I loved the movie,” Posey said. “My agents got me the audition for it, and I read the script, and it blew me away. It was completely unlike anything I have read. The script was awesome and it was one of the things I wanted the most out of anything, and I just worked hard and got it.” “I didn’t even know what ‘Teen Wolf’ was,” Dylan O’Brien admitted about originally signing on to the show. “I hadn’t seen the movie. I almost didn’t even go to the audition. Look at that.” “I think the thing we unanimously agree on is that the script was so strong, no matter what our assumptions were coming into it,” Hoechlin said. “After we read the script, it was immediately something we all wanted to be a part of very badly. I think each and every one of us is very grateful that we get a chance to work on it.” Are you looking forward to the new take on “Teen Wolf”? Let us know in the comments! ‘Teen Wolf’ Gets A Reboot In MTV Series

The show, which starts production this summer, is a darker take on the high school werewolf story. By Kara Warner Tyler Posey Photo: 3 Arts Entertainment Young men who spontaneously transform into wolves are hot right now, especially in the age of “Twilight.” Now, MTV is getting into the shape-shifting business with a modern spin on the cult-classic ’80s hit “Teen Wolf.” The series is said to be a departure from the film — a campy comedy that starred Michael J. Fox — and is described in a press release as a “sexy thriller set against the drama of high school life with a forbidden, romantic love story at its core.” The series centers on Scott McCall as the quintessential outsider, struggling to be recognized in a way that takes him out of high school anonymity. One night, his best friend, Stiles, convinces him to go into the woods to join a police search for a dead body. Scott ends up being attacked by a creature in the darkness, narrowly surviving with a vicious bite in his side. When he wakes up the next morning, he is greeted with strange surprises and a life that will never be the same. “We are always up for creative challenges at MTV,” said Liz Gateley, MTV senior vice president of series development. “We loved the conceit of the original film and knew the title had a great hook. The creative challenge was to take that title and reinvent it as a horror series for the MTV audience. It combines romance and high school to make ‘Teen Wolf’ the perfect thriller for MTV.” “Teen Wolf” stars Tyler Posey (“Maid in Manhattan,” “Brothers and Sisters”) as the newly bitten werewolf; Dylan O’Brien is Stiles; Crystal Reed is the mysterious new girl in town, Allison; and Tyler Hoechlin (“Road to Perdition,” “7th Heaven”) is the older and possibly dangerous werewolf, Derek Hale. “Teen Wolf” is slated to begin production this summer for 12 one-hour episodes.
