Cheryl Tiegs APOLOGIZES to Ashley Graham: "My Waist Is 37 Inches"

Last week, veteran supermodel Cheryl Tiegs found herself in some hot water over disparaging comments she made about plus-size model Ashley Graham. Graham had recently made history as the first plus-size model to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. While many considered it a welcome departure from the unattainable, super skinny physique of models past, Tiegs was not a fan . “Her face is beautiful, beautiful,” said Tiegs. “But I don’t think it’s healthy in the long run.” “I don’t like that we’re talking about full-figured women because it’s glamorizing them because your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches],” she added. Tiegs later tried to explain her comments on Twitter, writing, “To clarify re bodyweight. Being anorexic/bulimic/overweight all connected to health problems. I want all to be as healthy as they can.”   But Graham was not impressed . “People are saying she apologized. But I never heard one,” she said. Tiegs has now written an open letter to Graham , published on HuffPost in an attempt to explain her thoughts on the issue and officially apologize. She begins by blaming the media for twisting her words. “Here is the question that was asked of me: ‘Do you love the fact that we are actually stepping outside our comfort zone of what we know is like the model figure and we are actually using full figured women and making that a thing now?’  “This was a generic question, and I said that I did not love it. “My answer was based on health concerns because of our nation’s increasing problems with weight linked to diabetes, heart issues and cancer. At no time was I thinking of a specific person.” She continues by saying that her concerns remain centered around health, not standards of beauty. “I was not equating beauty to weight or size, but unfortunately that is what the media reported in headlines. “I was trying to express my concern over media images and the lack of education in America about healthy choices, thus the reference to the 35-inch waist as a guideline to health.” And then came this shocker: “And by the way, my waist is 37 inches.” She concludes by apologizing directly to Graham. “Please accept my deepest apology if you were offended or in any way think I was referring to you. I commend you on the positive influence you have on helping women to love themselves.” What do you think about Tieg’s comments? Is she expressing valid concerns over health or simply body shaming?

David Guetta Was ‘Moved’ By K’Naan’s ‘Wavin’ Flag’

A video for the inspirational anthem’s remix premiered today. By Akshay Bhansali K’Naan in “Wavin’ Flag” In the past five years, K’Naan has risen in popularity around the world. The Somali-Canadian rapper/singer is fast becoming known for his inspirational, unifying and vivid material. Growing up in Mogadishu amid the still-ongoing Somali civil war was no doubt formative in making K’Naan into the artist he is today. The hip-hop music his father sent him from America was probably similarly influential. So it should come as no surprise that for his third single from the album Troubadour, he chose to tweak his song “Wavin’ Flag.” In the wake of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year, the song became a charity single featuring 50 other Canadian artists under the group banner Young Artists for Haiti. Looking to create an urban remake, K’Naan chose producers Will.I.Am and French dance-music hitmaker David Guetta to help fine-tune “Wavin’ Flag” into a ditty with a more mainstream feel. In the video, which premiered Thursday (April29), Will.I.Am and Guetta appear before a black backdrop, but mostly, we see K’Naan inspiring people. He climbs a mountain, sings arm-in-arm with children and performs a concert, all set to the chorus, “When I get older, I will be stronger/ They’ll call me freedom/ Just like a wavin’ flag.” Indeed, the message seems clear: One can achieve the unattainable through belief and strong resolve, a recurring theme in the artist’s three-album catalog. Earlier this month, MTV News caught up with Guetta, who was tickled to have gotten the chance to, for once, slow things down. “When I heard it, I thought it was so beautiful,” Guetta said. “I was totally moved. And then I met K’Naan, and he’s a beautiful person. I was really excited. And then I heard Will was working on it. We decided to do a new version of it, and I think it’s great. “It was my first experience with a slower tempo, so I didn’t know I could handle it,” Guetta explained. “The way I make music is always: ‘Is this going to make people dance?’ That’s the only thing I think about. ‘OK, how to make this emotional?’ So, this one is all about being emotional.” “Wavin’ Flag” has been selected as the Coca-Cola’s promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The soccer event will be held in South Africa, and versions of the single have been recorded in English, Spanish and Chinese. Were you inspired by K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag”? Let us know in the comments! Kelly Osbourne Fronts New Self-Esteem Campaign

Kelly Osbourne is fronting a new campaign to tackle self-esteem problems in young people. Osbourne, 25, has become an ambassador for tanning brand St Tropez, after their research found that almost 75 per cent of people aged between 16 to 30 are not confident about their body. “It really saddens me that so many young people suffer from low self-esteem and feel unhappy with their appearance.”I think that at times we can be very hard on ourselves, which is certainly something I have experienced in my own life. I managed to overcome those negative thoughts by being healthy, thinking positively and making small changes to my lifestyle that make me feel good about myself, such as taking more exercise and being true to yourself.” Hooray for Kelly! We wish more celebrities would speak up for us s-called normal people and especially help younger woman deal with the unattainable image Hollywood pushes.
