Glenn Weiss Wins Emmy, PROPOSES ON STAGE!

Barry, Game of Thrones and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel all had big nights at the 2018 Emmy Awards . But no one had a bigger night than Glenn Weiss. First, the heretofore little known director won Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special due to his work at the Academy Awards. Then, he won the eternal love of girlfriend Jan Svendsen. After hearing his name called, Weiss walked up to the stage and he thanked his daughters and friends at ABC. The acceptance started out as your typical speech. From there, he started speak about his mother, who died just two weeks ago, telling the audience: “Part of my heart is broken. I don’t think it will ever be repaired. But she’s in me and she always will be.” Weiss explained how his mother always believed in “finding the sunshine,” leading him to denote Svensen as “the sunshine in my life,” as he continued: “And Mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.” At this word, the crowd erupted in a loud cheer and Svensen shouted “yes.” It really was an awesome moment. Svendsen was quickly ushered up to the stage by Milo Ventimiglia and a few other stars until she reached the arms of Weiss. As she was walking up, he joked that “I didn’t ask yet. I didn’t ask yet.” But once she was in front of him, Weiss pulled out his dad's engagement ring and got down on one knee. “Jan, I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?” he asked. And you can guess how she responded, right? By saying YES ! Later on, backstage, the newly-engaged couple told reporters how they met 10 years ago and both have daughters and both produce television shows and how Jan had no idea this was going to happen. “I had no suspicions whatsoever, I had no idea,” she said. “I really hoped he was going to dedicate the award to his mother, and he did, and then some.” Really beautiful stuff. Check out video of the proposal here!

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo Get Chaperoned, Wet in Counting On Sneak Peek

Counting On’s Jinger Duggar may not follow her family’s courtship playbook as closely as Jim Bob might like, but she still has boundaries. In other words, chaperones. In a sneak peek of Tuesday’s Counting On Season 2 Episode 5, the sixth eldest Duggar goes on a fun date with future husband Jeremy Vuolo. And three siblings. Jeremy, Jinger and her siblings Jeremiah, Jedidiah and Joy-Anna Duggar will visit a local amusement park to race go-karts and more. Much more. “We have to kinda watch and keep an eye on ‘em,” Jedidiah says, and when the competition turns to bumper boats, things to go another level. Jinger decides to share a boat with Jeremy for a “teamwork” edge; Jinger’s brothers take notice and in response, spray them with water. “That was just like calling for an instant shower blessing,” Jeremiah says, and while Jeremy takes it in stride, Jinger is less than thrilled. Hey, when you break courtship rules left and right, the younger siblings are going to be taking their chaperone rules all the more seriously. We can’t be having any more full frontal hugs now, can we? No, although the way these two are going, it may be a moot point shortly. We can expect Jeremy to “browse for engagement rings” with her sister Jessa Seewald’s husband Ben on this week’s installment as well. While Jim Bob disapproves of Jeremy Vuolo  – or at least made it clear he doesn’t want Jinger to move too fast – he may have met his match. These two are so smitten it’s almost nauseating. Or actually nauseating, if you’re some fans who are taking issue with Jinger’s propensity for turning “babe” into a three-syllable word. And saying it approximately 75 times. View Slideshow: Jinger Duggar Photos: From Childhood to Courtship! “I felt a bit embarrassed by the ‘baaabe’ talk,” one fan wrote following last week’s courting-heavy show. “I don’t know about this courting thing.” “Jinger has gone from being very sheltered and home all the time to having a boyfriend to talking of marriage in a mere 60 days or so.” “Emotionally she almost doesn’t seem like she is able to handle it. The ‘babe’ thing is a little much. She repeats it over and over.” “It seems awkward to have a camera following her around at such an emotionally vulerable [sic] time. Is it really a healthy thing?”  A fair question, but one that could also be applied to so many of the Duggar family’s rules for dating, courting, marriage, sex and life: View Slideshow: 13 Things BANNED in the Duggar Family

Patton Oswalt Wins Emmy, Pays Tribute to Late Wife

Patton Oswalt took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special on Sunday night. And while the win hasn’t garnered the sort of attention for Oswalt as such surprising (and deserving) victories by Rami Malek and Tatiana Maslany, the comedian is now making headlines for what he said after taking home the trophy. First, on stage, Oswalt said the following toward the end of his acceptance speech: “I want to share this with two people: One of them is my daughter, Alice, waiting at home. The other one is waiting somewhere else – I hope.” That’s a pretty amazing line. In late April, Michelle McNamara died in her sleep in the home she shared with Oswalt. The author was 46 years old, married Oswalt in 2005 and gave birth to the couple’s only child in 2009. Since McNamara’s tragic passing, Oswalt has taken the time on a couple of occasions to openly mourn his late wife. “Depression is the tallest kid in the 4th grade, dinging rubber bands off the back of your head and feeling safe on the playground, knowing that no teacher is coming to help you,” he wrote on Facebook in August He then contrasted this feeling with grief . “But grief? Grief is Jason Statham holding that 4th grade bully’s head in a toilet and then f-cking the teacher you’ve got a crush on in front of the class…  “Grief makes depression cower behind you and apologize for being such a dick.” Oswalt wrote those words 102 days after McNamara passed away. “I was face-down and frozen for weeks,” he wrote of how he felt when he first lost his wife. “It’s 102 days later and I can confidently say I have reached a point where I’m crawling. Which, objectively, is an improvement. Maybe 102 days later I’ll be walking.” Following his win on Sunday night and his acceptance speech, Oswalt was asked more about McNamara. “Every bit of growth that I’ve had in my career, especially in my writing and my performing, came because I met Michelle McNamara,” he told reporters. “Because I met and married this woman who just was so much wiser and self-actualized and aware of life than I was. I had convinced myself that I was aware and self-actualized and mature but then I met the real deal… “To have that ripped out of my life the way that it has this year – I’m not trying to say that this is meaningless, but everything seems like the lights have been turned down 50% on everything since she’s gone. “It just going to be a long, long time before I can be the kind of person she made me again.” Watch his moving post-win speech below: Patton Oswalt Honors Late Wife In an article for Time.com shortly after McNamara died, Oswalt looked back on the legacy left by his wife. He said at the time: “The reaction to her passing, the people who are shocked at her senseless absence, is a testament to how she steered her life with joyous, wicked curiosity,. “She hasn’t left a void. She’s left a blast crater.”
