A group of trailblazing Black women are finally getting the recognition that they deserve. The women who were a part of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the U.S. Army’s only all-Black all-women unit during WWII—were honored with a monument in Kansas, Radio.com reported. Five of the 800+ servicewomen were present at the monument dedication ceremony. https://t.co/RKSpLMh6Ty — CBS News Radio (@CBSNewsRadio) December 8, 2018 The group—which was made up of over 800 Black women—was responsible for organizing mail in a segregated unit, the news outlet writes. They served during a time where the Women Army Corps were separated by race and women of color were rarely allowed to serve overseas. Nearly 73 years ago, after the Red Cross had a huge backlog of mail that was supposed to be distributed to U.S. service members, the women were selected to serve in Birmingham, England to help with the issue. Prior to traveling to Europe, they trained in Camp Shanks, New York. The group was led by Lt. Col Charity Edna Adams who was the first Black woman to be an officer in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. According to the news outlet, the women went through 65,000 pieces of mail during each shift. They were forced to work in unclean, rat-infested warehouses. The monument in Fort Leavenworth features the names of all the women and imagery from their journey. Five of the women who served were in attendance at the ceremony. “Servicemen want their mail. That’s a morale booster,” 95-year-old Lena King , who was a part of the unit, told KCTV . “Within six months, we had cleared up two to three years of back mail.” The unsung legacies of these women will live on through the monument. The dedication of the monument comes shortly after the passing of Tulsa Race Riot survivor Olivia Hooker who was the first Black women to enter the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945. Carter Family Cuteness: Blue And Jay Support As Beyonce Accepts The CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Beyonce And Family Attend CFDA Awards This year’s CFDA award ceremony featured a big surprise, kept tightly under wraps until after the show’s conclusion — Beyonce was honored with the 2016 Fashion Icon Award: While accepting the recognition for her influential style , Bey detailed how her style journey came full circle, from her seamstress grandmother to her aspiring designer mother, and developing a unique style due to lack of style opportunity given a group of young Black singers just starting out: “As long as I can remember, fashion has always been a part of my life. Its effect on me actually started before I was born. Most of you guys don’t know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress…” “When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels, they didn’t want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams.” “[My mother] designed all of our first costumes and made each piece by hand…putting so much passion and love into every small detail,” she said. “When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like [Game of Thrones’ queen] Khaleesi; I had an extra suit of armor. It was so much deeper than any brand name.” How far she’s come! The songstress arrived to accept her award while rocking a sparkly pinstripe suit, $9 million in Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and the extremely wide-brimmed black hat that’s become synonymous with her Lemonade look: While Jay and Blue rocked black and white looks to support Mama Bey: Hit the flip for more from the Carter family’s arrival to the CFDA Awards, and more of Beyonce’s look for the night… AKM-GSI / Splash / Instagram

Haley King aka Hunter King Should Be A Big Star

With a body this good, I still don’t know how Haley King here isn’t a household name yet, but I’m guessing it probably has something to do with the fact that nobody can ever remember whether to call her Haley or Hunter. But whatever the hell she’s going by these days, she was looking pretty damn tasty at the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. I’m not sure what she won an award for (and I’m too lazy to look it up), but it’s a good first step towards finally getting this hottie the recognition she deserves. The next one is hooking up with a blogger, but I understand if Haley/Hunter needs to psych herself up for that one first. I’ll wait. » view all 34 photos Photos: WENN.com Continue reading

Jenelle Evans Mocks Farrah Abraham Lip Injections: LMFAO!

Jenelle Evans is at it again, and by “it,” we don’t mean getting arrested, married, hospitalized or naked. Just dissing Farrah Abraham, her other favorite pastime. Evans, who recently re-tweeted a fan’s comment that at least she didn’t have to “take it in the butt” to stay famous, is not a fan of her Teen Mom counterpart. It’s unclear why, but Farrah’s body enhancements – specifically her HOT new lip injections – are the latest target of Jenelle’s random Twitter shade-throwing. “I’m sorry but I can’t see Farrah’s teeth anymore when she talks, can u?” Jenelle Evans wrote of Farrah Abraham . “Lmfao and she just got her teeth done!” This being Jenelle Evans , she didn’t stop there. Not even close. “I rather be all natural than completely fake,” she continued. “I mean it’s almost every part of her body!” For those keeping score, Farrah has had … Two sets of breast implants (one removed) One chin implant (now removed) Lip injections A nose job A brain transplant Just kidding about that last one, though she might consider it, given some of the thoughts that escape her lips on occasion. The rest? All true! Farrah looks like a completely different person, for sure, not that Jenelle and her fake boobs are ones to talk – a point that she actually addressed. “That’s the ONLY thing fake on me,” she said in response. “Not my chin, cheeks, lips, teeth, hair, and boobs.” Thanks for clearing that up. Now please do as Jenelle Evans wishes and stare at her boobs, which she angles a certain way in every single Instagram photo. Or her mug shots. Another EXPANSIVE gallery for you. Justin Timberlake Covers GQ Men of the Year Issue, is Not Cool

Justin Timberlake may be a music superstar, actor and heart throb who graces the cover of GQ’s Men of the Year issue, but he insists that he’s not cool. At least not in the literal sense. As Justin explains in the December issue of the magazine, “being cool is about keeping your blood pressure steady,” rather than being passionate. Similar to Kanye, he isn’t the type of guy who can restrain himself. That’s true whether he’s passionately in love with something or passionately in disagreement, as is the case with negative Runner, Runner reviews . “This recognizable face that you work so hard to get … not because you want the recognition but because you know you’re made to do it,” he says, adding: “The movie didn’t do well at the box office, so I should quit?” “Hold on a second. If I was somebody else, you wouldn’t have said that. I have the number one album this week, and I shouldn’t have released it?” “Come on, man. You sound like a (jerk) … It just shocked me because, like, you’re trade magazines. None of your opinions count. And by the way, none of you can do it.” Other excerpts from the interview: On what he aspires to be his reputation: “I don’t see myself as someone who’s ever going to be defined by one moment. It’s on to the next.” On growing up in Memphis: “It’s a struggling city with a defeatist attitude. I’m from this town, and I grew up with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder.” “So sometimes I find it funny that I’ve been able to acquire the patience it takes to be kind to people in our business. Because sometimes I just want to (expletive) kill everybody.” On his upcoming role in Inside Llewyn Davis : “You do a [Coen Brothers] movie and secretly you’re like, ‘All I want to do is make people laugh in this movie.” “If I can make people laugh in this movie, then I don’t care. Whatever else happens, happens.'”

Nas Makes ‘History’ With Heavy D-Produced ‘The Don’

‘When Salaam played me the beat for it, I said, ‘That’s the single,’ ‘ Nas tells MTV News of Life Is Good track. By Nadeska Alexis Nas Photo: MTV News Nas is gearing up to release his 10th studio album, Life Is Good, this summer, and the Queens MC gave fans a first taste of the anticipated LP last week with the premiere of his new single, “The Don.” The track features production from Salaam Remi, Da Internz and the late Heavy D, who died suddenly in November. Before taking the stage at South by Southwest this past weekend, Nas acknowledged the significance of having Heav’s touch on his new single. “When Salaam played me the beat for it, I said, ‘That’s the single — do this and do that and we’re golden.’ So he started flipping it around,” Nas said of the first time he heard the instrumentals. “When we heard that Heavy D died, of course we were messed up, and Salaam called me and told me, ‘You know your record “The Don”? You know who gave me that, right?’ “He’s like, ‘Heavy D gave me that. He liked what we did with the other single, “Nasty,” and he sent me this record.’ And the rest is history,” Nas continued. “So rest in peace, Heavy D.” Life Is Good will be Nas’ first solo album since 2008’s Untitled, and the LP is slated to arrive by late May or early June. “It’s a summer album,” Nas told MTV News. “We’re gonna shoot the video for ‘The Don’ and get ready for the next song that’s in the chamber. It ain’t gon’ stop. It’s a whole story. ‘[The] Don’ just dropped, so we’re just letting that bubble and setting up the next one.” Before Nas rolls out Life Is Good, fans can catch him on the song “Champion,” which appears on Nicki Minaj’s upcoming sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “Nicki hit us up, I got love, so it was nothin’ — I did the record,” he said of his work on the track. Machine Gun Kelly Fought ‘Wild Boy’ Initially

‘Maybe I should just hate every song I’m about to release,’ MGK tells MTV News about his Half Naked & Almost Famous single. By Rob Markman Machine Gun Kelly Photo: Jerod Harris/ WireImage Machine Gun Kelly relishes the underdog role, but the Cleveland, Ohio, rapper racked up another serious win on Tuesday (March 20) when he dropped his Half Naked & Almost Famous EP on Bad Boy Records. The five-song digital release marks MGK’s first major-label release and serves as a warm-up for his official debut LP. Tracks like the riot-starting “Warning Shot” and the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced and soul-bearing “See My Tears” help balance out the quick fix, but the EP’s anchor is its first single, “Wild Boy.” Initially MGK was skeptical about leading his charge with the Waka Flocka-assisted track, but Diddy talked him into it. “He was the one who encouraged ‘Wild Boy,’ he encouraged the whole thing. I was like, ‘Nah, no way, we gotta go serious with the serious stuff right now,'” MGK told MTV News during a January sit-down. “If we would’ve went that route, I would’ve fizzled off real quick” Kells was down on the Spiff TV-directed video as well after a miscommunication between Waka and his mom/manager Deb Antney almost halted production. “We had all these initial plans, but none of them fell through,” he said. “It was almost a wrap on it because Waka’s mom didn’t tell him that he had a video shoot today. So I was like, ‘Come on, hurry up,’… He was like ‘Video shoot? What are you talkin’ about?’ ” Waka eventually made it to the shoot and in the end everything worked out. Now, MGK understands the value of strong lead single. “I accept it. I totally accept it. I accept what it does for the people in the crowd and I accept what it did for my recognition.” In fact, thanks to “Wild Boy” and the tons of touring MGK does, the MC was able to gain enough support to be able to release Half Naked & Almost Famous and its accompanying documentary. “Maybe I should just hate every song I’m about to release,” he joked. What’s your favorite song off of Half Naked & Almost Famous ? Tell us in the comments! One day after music icon Whitney Houston was found dead , the show will pay tribute to the six-time Grammy winner. As A-listers hit the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Staple Center, they have been remembering the big-voiced talent for her undeniable gift. “She had the swagger and she had the voice,” Diplo told MTV News during our pre-show live stream. “I was listening to a bunch of records last night, and I was amazed at how deeply I felt about her records as a child.” The producer noted that her contributions to music of all genres still resonated today, thanks to her ability to bust genres wide open and make them all her own. “She had that persona that pulled of pop music and urban and R&B in a way that no one else could do it,” he added. EDM producer A-Trak said that it wasn’t just her catalog that made her iconic, but also her voice. “Just pure talent, incredible voice and the whole package, the personality the presence,” he said, “once in a generation, spectacular talent.” Jennifer Hudson and Houston’s longtime friend Chaka Khan are expected to lead a tribute to the late icon during the Grammys. The show’s executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, said in a statement, “It’s too fresh in everyone’s memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize Whitney’s remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years.” MTV Newsl Sway and James Montgomery will be live from the Grammys red carpet tonight starting at 5 p.m. ET to get reactions from musicls biggest stars on the death of Whitney Houston.
