Jesus take the wheel… Virginia Man Drives 7 Hours To And From Work Every Day A Virginia man is making national headlines for his hellish commute to work in Washington D.C. every day that rounds up to nearly 7 hours by car and by subway. WTVR reports: Next time you’re stuck in rush hour traffic and your blood pressure starts to rise, take a breath and think of Thurmond Alford. Alford lives in Chesterfield County, but works at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. That calls for a 3½-hour commute of more than 120 miles. And that’s just one way. Alford said he’s put 27,000 miles on his 2014 Mazda 6 in just seven months, and he only drives part of the way before hitching a carpool ride and taking the D.C. Metro. “If I make all the right connections at all the right times, it’s 3½ hours,” Alford said. “I literally go through 11 counties, cross four rivers and three major cities.” Alford’s commute is so hellish he was chosen last month by Washington radio station WTOP 103.5 FM as the winner of its “Commuter Idle,” a contest for “listeners experiencing the daily horrors of commuting in and around Washington,” the station said. As a prize, Alford got a limo ride to and from work one day and $1,000 for gas. Alford, 44, is surprisingly upbeat for someone who has been on the road seven hours a day for 12 years. “Everybody has a monkey on their back– an issue they have to deal with,” he said. “My issue is my commute, and I accept it.” Sheesh would you drive make that trek to work EVERY DAY??? That sounds like a helluva headache.

Lindsay Lohan is sticking with maligned lawyer Mark Heller in her upcoming trial, while witnesses are being subpoenaed to testify against her. She apparently doesn’t care that the celebrity news media – and the JUDGE – think Heller is a bumbling fool. The troubled star says “It’s all lies.” Sure it is. Judge James Dabney said bluntly that if she sticks with Heller, she has to waive her right under California law to a competent legal representation. How’s that for a vote of confidence! SIDE NOTE : Father of the Decade Michael Lohan reportedly reached out to his daughter and offered to pay for a new lawyer. She turned him down. Heller was absolutely berated at a pretrial hearing in the case, just weeks after Lohan fired longtime lawyer Shawn Holley for unknown reasons. Maybe he’s just trying to set expectations so low he can’t help but shine at trial? In any case, the man does not give the impression that he has a clue. Lindsay has 12 days to change her mind, because her criminal trial kicks off on March 18. She faces up to eight months in jail for lying to police. That also triggered a probation violation, because the terms of her probation require her to obey all laws, which she has a major problem doing. While there’s been talk of her avoiding jail and rehab in a plea deal, nothing has been finalized, and the D.A. looks ready to try the case if needed. Her former assistant Gavin Doyle ready to testify against her, as are her bodyguard and hotel staff who saw her the day of her infamous car crash. Lohan wrecked her car on the Pacific Coast Highway in June and said Doyle was driving. Officials believe Lindsay was in fact behind the wheel. The bodyguard is described as “a reluctant witness and doesn’t want to testify, but he has no choice in the matter now as he has been subpoenaed.” Hotel staffers have also been subpoenaed and are expected to testify that they saw the 26-year-old star get behind the wheel that day, not Doyle. Word of advice, Lindsay Lohan . The deck is completely stacked against you here (entirely of your own doing, but still). Open your eyes, girl. Take the plea deal. Any plea deal. And go to rehab already.
12-Year-Old Boy Saves His Father’s Life By Taking The Wheel During A Seizure A young boy is being hailed a hero after he took the wheel and drove to safety after his father began suddenly suffering from a seizure, saving his father’s life along with that of his baby sister who was also in the car. Patrick Canney nearly panicked when his dad collapsed at the wheel, but just one look at his little sister pushed the brave 12-year-old into action. The Canneys were making their way down Interstate 95 in Peabody, Mass., on Saturday when Patrick noticed his dad was suffering from a seizure, WHDH reports. The youngster grew increasingly nervous, but knew that he had to act fast to protect his baby sister who has special needs. Patrick steered the car to the side of the road, put it into park, called 9-1-1 and helped his sibling out of the vehicle, according to the news outlet. “She can’t tell me what [Patrick] did,” the hero’s mom told the news outlet. “But she is here because of him.” What a brave little boy!
