We Remember Aaliyah (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001)

It’s hard to believe that its been ten years since Aaliyah left us. Many of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the tragic news that Aaliyah’s life had been cut short by a plane accident in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001. Her memory will not be forgotten anytime soon. The singer-actress began her career in 1991 when her uncle, Barry Hankerson, signed her to Blackground Records. Three years later, her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothin’ But A Number , would be released. Audiences were immediately captivated by the teenager’s street-smart style and angelic voice. Her debut single, “Back & Forth,” topped the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop singles chart for three weeks. The follow-up single, a cover of the Isley Brothers’ “At Your Best (You Are Love),” peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. With the release of her second album, 1996′s One In A Million , Aaliyah helped changed the sound of R&B and Hip-Hop thanks to her new collaborators, Missy Elliot and Timbaland. With singles like “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “One In A Million,” “Hot Like Fire,” and “4 Page Letter,” it was obvious that Aaliyah’s star was on the rise. In 1998, Aaliyah was invited to the Academy Awards ceremony where she performed the Oscar nominated song “Journey To The Past” from the film Anastasia. Later in 1998, Aaliyah released yet another single from a soundtrack. This time it was “Are You That Somebody” from the Eddie Murphy film Dr. Doolittle . The single would become one of Aaliyah’s most popular with its stellar production and highly choreographed video. Two years later the singer would add the title of “actress” to her resume when she starred in the film Romeo Must Die opposite martial arts expert Jet Li. The film debuted at number two on its opening weekend and spawned two hit Aaliyah singles, “Come Back In One Piece” with DMX, and the chart topping “Try Again.” After completing work on Romeo Must Die , Aaliyah went straight to work on the vampire film Queen Of The Damned and was also slated to appear in the sequels to the popular film The Matrix . She also found time to put in work on her third album, the eponymously titled Aaliyah which was preceded by the mysterious and sexy video for “We Need A Resolution.” After wrapping up filming in the Bahamas for the Aaliyah album’s second single, “Rock The Boat,” Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a crash shortly after their plane took off from the island on August 25th, 2001. She was 22 years old. Gloria Govan Dumped By Matt Barnes

Go here to read the rest:

“Basketball Wives LA” cast member Gloria Govan was just dumped by her fiance Matt Barnes. Word on the street is that Matt dumped Gloria because he was tired of “reckless talk.” Well I’m thinking Gloria is probably better off as dude has problems keeping his hands to himself. In case you missed it, Matt was arrested for domestic violence, but Gloria released a statement saying that he has never abused her or her family. Gloria often bragged about how successful and mature her relationship was in comparison to the other girls on “Basketball Wives.” The couple was scheduled to get married last August but decided to postpone it. Gloria explained: Matt and I feel like marriage is something that should not be rushed into. It wasn’t any outside party. We’re committed and dedicated to working on our relationship and we’re still together but again, we felt like this wasn’t something that was in our hearts at the time. Marriage is something that is definitely our goal but again, we’re not rushing into something that we just feel like isn’t right for us at the time so we’re just taking the time to work on our family. SOURCE Something about this relationship never seemed right. “Basketball Wives LA’ airs on VH1 next  Monday, August 29th. I personally can’t wait to see what drama these ladies are going to bring. My name is Nina and I’m from Malibu, California. On…

My name is Nina and I’m from Malibu, California. On Halloween last year Justin was having a meet and greet/book signing for his new book, my best friend Lucy and I decided to go. We are true Beliebers and proud of it. Lucy’s parents are so amazing! Her dad waited in line for 2 hours at Barnes and Noble to buy copies of the book which would get us wrist-bands to get us into the event. Then on October 31st, we woke up and got Lucy’s mom to drive us to the Grove where the event was happening and she waited in line with us for over 3 hours. We love her!! Lucy and I had been waiting for an opportunity like this for so long and as we were waiting in line we were too excited to even think! We just kept thinking that soon we would be right next to Justin Bieber and our dreams would come true. After about two hours we finally made it into Barnes and Noble and we could see Justin less than 50 feet away from us. It was crazy!! There were girls screaming, crying, and some just speechless. Finally, after a lot of waiting it was our turn to take our picture with Justin! We walked over to him, said hi while he did his famous hair flip, then he put his arms around both of us and smiled for our picture. It was honestly the best moment of my life and I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity. Then we each gave him a hug as we walked away to go collect our signed copies of the book. But quickly before leaving we had written our phone numbers on a piece of paper and I went up to Kenny and asked him to please give it to Justin and he replied, “Yes ma’am I will”. He was so sweet! As we were walking out of Barnes and Noble, Lucy and I almost started crying we were so happy. As soon as we got in the car we started calling all of our friends screaming “WE JUST MET JUSTIN BIEBER!!!” because we were so ecstatic we couldn’t believe what had just happened. We will never forget that day and the amazing experience we went through together. NEVER SAY NEVER Read this article: My name is Nina and I’m from Malibu, California. On…

Meet Another Almost Famous Music Critic in the Killing Bono Trailer

From Britain, here comes what looks like a feel-good underdog story about two rock bands in Dublin, based on a memoir by Telegraph critic Neil McCormick. Ben Barnes plays McCormick, the frontman for an up and coming rock n roll band who are competing for the spotlight with their friends’ band…U2. Whoa. Bummer.
