THG Celebrity of the Year: Kristen Stewart!

We’ve arrived at #1. Over the past couple weeks, THG has been counting down the stars that made 2012 such a memorable year, from their sex tapes to their Billboard hits to their nude photos and royal babies. We ranked Kate Middleton at #4, followed by Taylor Swift and then Rihanna at #2 . Who does that leave as our undisputed Celebrity of the Year? KRISTEN STEWART! The actress starred in two blockbusters this year: Snow White and the Huntsman and Breaking Dawn Part 2 . She also established some indie cred via On the Road . But let’s face it: these roles are not the main reason Stewart made so many headlines in 2012. Instead, Kristen’s most buzzed-about accomplishment (perhaps for the rest of her years) will be her affair with Rupert Sanders , a story made for this tabloid age and made even more unprecedented when Stewart actually came out and admitted to the scandal! Her statement and public apology to Robert Pattinson may go down as the year’s most shocking moment. This relationship – previously kept under wraps as much as possible by the duo involved – was suddenly front page news. Would they get back together? What, exactly, happened between Stewart and Sanders? How would it affect the Breaking Dawn box office? In the end, the film fared well and Kristen and Rob appear back together. Other numbers/facts related to Stewart’s big year include: She became the face of Balenciaga perfume in June. She ranked #7 on AskMen’s list of Top 99 Women. She earned $34.5 million, more than any actress over the past 12 months. She was named one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. Without The Twilight Saga, but with Pattinson, what does 2013 hold for Kristen Stewart? Marriage? Pregnancy? Another hit film? THG will be there every step of the way to find out. Won’t you join us?

Jesus Take The Wheel: 29 Year-Old “Heart Attack Grill” Spokesperson Dies Weighing 575 Lbs

Blair River, the 575-pound spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill, an Arizona restaurant that serves shamelessly high-calorie burgers and fries, died Tuesday at the age of 29, following a bout of the flu. At 6 feet 8 inches tall, River garnered celebrity as the grill’s “Gentle Giant” when he became the face and advertising star of the medically themed restaurant — famous for its triple-bypass burgers, flatliner lard fries and server “nurses” donning uniforms fit for adult films. River came down with the flu last week, and after four days in the hospital, he succumbed to pneumonia, says Jon Basso, owner of the grill and close friend of River .Basso described River’s death as “tragic,” because he was a “young creative genius, a promising man whose life got cut short because he carried extra weight. Had he been thin, he would have had a tenfold opportunity to survive the pneumonia.” Though Basso goes by “Dr. Jon,” in line with the restaurant’s medical theme, he is not medically trained and so can’t speak to the role obesity might have played in River’s illness. The official cause of death for the hamburger model is still unknown. Medical professionals wouldn’t necessarily disagree with this link, however. “Obesity increases your risk for just about every condition, and it can make nearly every acute health problem worse,” says Keith Ayoob, director of the nutrition clinic at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Anorexic French Model Isabelle Caro Dead

Caro brought Jessica Simpson to tears on ‘The Price of Beauty.’ By Gil Kaufman Though she died last month, the world is just now learning about the passing of French model Isabelle Caro. The 28-year-old Caro bravely became the face of eating disorders in 2007 when she appeared in a shocking billboard campaign warning of the dangers of anorexia during fashion week in Italy. In the ads, a painfully thin Caro, who weighed less than 60 pounds at the time, was depicted peering over her shoulder with the words “No. Anorexia” plastered in large letters across the top of the nude image. Caro became one of the leaders of an effort to warn about the dangers of eating disorders, but after the health effects of the disorder weakened her body, she died on November 17 following a long sickness, according to her acting coach, E! News reported. Caro said in interviews that she had suffered from anorexia nervosa since she was 13, telling CBS News in 2007 that she agreed to do the ad because “I said if I can put my years of suffering to good use then it will not have been pointless. … I know it’s a shocking photo, and I want it to shock. It’s really a warning that it is a serious illness.” In addition to working as a judge on “France’s Next Top Model,” Caro was featured in the second episode of Jessica Simpson’s VH1 reality series “The Price of Beauty,” in which the singer traveled the globe to uncover the lengths to which women go to attain what society believes is perfection. Caro’s appearance on the show brought Simpson to tears. “What you are doing right now makes you more beautiful and I hope women all over the world hear about the story,” Simpson told Caro on the show, during which the model described how even as a teenager who weighed just 89 pounds she was told she needed to lose weight. “To us, what you’re doing right now makes you one of the most beautiful people that we have ever seen. And we really just appreciate you sitting in front of us and having such powerful words. God bless you. … And I think it’s important for women to know that the skinnier you are doesn’t make you more beautiful.” Despite her disturbing image in the 2007 ad, Caro worried that some anorexia sufferers (sometimes known as pro-ana for their support of anorexia as a lifestyle choice) might misinterpret her message. “I hope not. To see my tailbone like an open wound, I show myself as I am. I’m not beautiful, my hair is ruined and I know I will never have long hair again. I’ve lost several teeth,” she said of her looks on the billboard. “My skin is dry. My breasts have fallen. No young girl wants to look like a skeleton. … You couldn’t believe anyone would want to look like that. I don’t think there’s any question about it.”
