NBA Lockout Over! Kris Humphries a Free Agent!

An official agreement must still be reached, but it’s safe to celebrate, NBA fans: the lockout is over! Commissioner David Stern and Player’s Association leader Billy Hunter appeared at a joint press conference last night and announced that a tentative agreement had been reached, the results of which mean the following: training camps and free agency will begin on December 9. A 66-game season will kick off on Christmas Day. What is the celebrity gossip spin to all this? Kris Humphries is a free agent, of course. Where will Kim’s reality TV co-star play ball next season?!? The bruising power forward averaged a double-double in 2010-2011, growing into one of the few bright spots for the New Jersey Nets. That team may attempt to re-sign him, but its priority will be locking up point guard Deron Williams to a long-term deal. With no hard cap in place, the Knicks will have the deep pockets to a lure a few key free agents, and we all know how much Kris has embraced the big market lifestyle . No matter where Humphries ends up playing, only one question really matters: With what cheer will NBA fans taunt him? We’ve offered a few possibilities below and we welcome any other suggestions: Kim Kardashian Divorce – The Pulse

NBA Lockout Update: Talks Fall Apart, 2011 Season Potentially Dead

Hallelujerrrrr! The NBA Lockout May Be Over Any Minute Now

Ding dong the lockout is might be dead! NBA players and club owners met for a third consecutive day on Friday after having moved closer to a new contract that could set the stage for a full season of 82 games per team to be played. Negotiators had met for 15 hours in a session that ended early Thursday morning and for half as long Thursday afternoon, making progress on salary cap issues as they try to agree on how to split $4 billion in annual revenues. “I think we’re within reach and within striking distance of getting a deal,” NBA players union executive director Billy Hunter said. “It’s just a question of how receptive the NBA is and whether or not they want to do a deal.” NBA commissioner David Stern has already called off the first 100 games of the 2011-2012 season and has said that it will take at least four weeks to start the season once a deal is done, effectively meaning all of November is already lost. Salvaging the remainder of the season, with the possibility of wedging missed games into the remaining time to avoid revenue losses for owners or players, is a possibility but one that diminishes with every hour that passes. “There are no guarantees that we’ll get it done, but we’re going to give it one heck of a shot,” Stern said. “I think Billy and the union’s negotiators feel the same way. I know that ours do.” So what if we don’t get games in November? Nobody really misses basketball until the NFL season is over anyway. We can do without it. Still, it’s nice to know progress is being made. Hopefully by the time we see you again on Monday, we’ll have an NBA schedule locked in. Source

Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Kobe Bryant Is Prepared To Make It Rain On His Fellow Players If NBA Lockout Is Too Long!

This is the last guy we expected to be down with something like this. In an interview with the L.A. Times, NBA Players Association head Billy Hunter says that NBA players have been prepared for the financial hardships of a lockout for several years now. For those that may not be as prepared there has been talk of a player-sponsored revenue pool to help make sure that lower-tier pay-scale ballers still maintain without their game checks. What role will NBA superstars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James play as this moves forward? They’ve been deeply involved in the meetings we’ve had. I know Kobe is intimately involved in interfacing with colleagues and sharing in a pool of revenue to help the others get through this. Kobe has volunteered to do that in the event others need, he and others are prepared to loan money if necessary.’ Helluva a gesture considering that Kobe has a history of throwing his teammates under the bus (side-eyes Shaq ).
