The whole time he’s been one of the best rappers out, and he’s even on Jimmy Fallon’s show every night. However, when he ripped his freestyle for an orgasmic Funk Flex and started trending, MAGAs got really confused. They wanted to know why Black Thought was trending and instead of even searching they started snow flaking all over the timeline. when race trolls see black thought trending and dont realize that its a person pic.twitter.com/YptNtgfUcw — Open Mike Eagle (@Mike_Eagle) December 15, 2017 So you know what time it is…let’s laugh at all of them! The Roots Gather Kid Cudi, Diplo And Rakim For Annual Picnic

?uestlove hypes up the ‘diverse lineup’ at the fifth annual music festival, including Wale, De La Soul and Meek Mill. By Rob Markman ?uestlove Photo: MTV Hip-hop’s hardest-working band is getting ready to put in overtime this weekend as the Roots put on their fifth annual Roots Picnic in the City of Brotherly Love. Wale , Kid Cudi, Meek Mill, De La Soul and Diplo will join the world-famous Roots crew and perform during the two-day music festival on Saturday and Sunday at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. The picnic has grown over the years as the idea was birthed back in the band’s early days while they were touring in Europe. “This year will mark the first time that we’re doing two days instead of one,” Roots maestro ?uestlove told MTV News back in May. “I’m extremely proud of the diverse lineup that we have. Between Wale, Meek, Kid Cudi, De La Soul, Rakim, St. Vincent, Major Lazer, Diplo, Danny [Brown], it’s a whole vast array of acts that we have on the show.” On Saturday, the Roots will back iconic New York trio De La Soul for their performance, and Sunday they will hit the stage with Rakim to honor his 1987 debut album with Rakim. “On the second day we’re celebrating Rakim ‘s 25th anniversary of Paid in Full, so we’re going to do the entire album from start to finish,” ?uesto explained. “That’s like a tradition, last year we did Illmatic from start to finish with Nas.” Last year, ?uestlove, Black Thought and company backed Rakim for an intimate concert at the legendary New York jazz club the Blue Note . “The Roots is hip-hop royalty right now,” Ra told us back then. “From what they do, what they bring to the table, for them to holla at me, put this together, invite me out, that let me know, ‘Yo, it’s official.’ Otherwise, they wouldn’t. It’s a good feeling to be around this long and still get that love.” For ?uestlove, it’s all about celebrating good music and bringing the vibe that they absorbed in Europe over to the U.S. “That’s all we wanted to do was bring back what we learned and give it to the city of Philadelphia,” he said. T.I. Gets King’s Welcome At ’11 BET Hip Hop Awards

Newly freed Tip opened the show, while Eminem, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, many more electrified crowd at show airing October 11. By Rob Markman T.I. at the 2011 BET Awards Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images ATLANTA — It was only fitting the “King of the South” made his regal return on a stage so close to where his troubles began back in 2007, but also so near where he first got his start in the game. After completing his 11-month prison sentence on Thursday, T.I. opened the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards with Young Jeezy as the two performed the Snowman’s new single “F.A.M.E.” The awards show, which taped at the Atlanta Civic Center on Saturday, is set to air on Tuesday, October 11; comedian Mike Epps hosted with assistance from Da Brat. While T.I. arguably provided the show’s grandest moment, Rick Ross and his Maybach Music crew, Lupe Fiasco, Big Sean, Heavy D, DMX and Wiz Khalifa all electrified the crowd with hyped-up performances throughout the night. Rap legend LL Cool J received the show’s highest honor when he was presented with the I Am Hip-Hop Award for his career of achievements in music, movies and television. The awards show’s black carpet was equally star-studded. Rival rap crews like Ross’ Maybach Music rubbed shoulders with G-Unit’s newest members Shawty Lo and Kidd Kidd in a show of peace, love and appreciation for the culture. As most fans know, BET’s pre-taped rap ciphers typically generate some the of the ceremony’s most buzz-worthy moments, with memorable performances from Kayne’s G.O.O.D. Music crew, Mos Def and the Roots’ Black Thought going viral in recent years. This year, the network upped the ante adding more rhyme ciphers than ever before. MCs like French Montana, Tech N9ne, Big K.R.I.T., Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Maybach Music Group, Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf and Eminem all traded rhymes while DJ Premier spun the beats. Among the leading nominees are Lil Wayne (who earned a record-setting 18 nods), Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Waka Flocka Flame, while stars like NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, Tracee Ellis Ross and Nelly were among the presenters. Tune in to the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday, October 11, at 8pm ET to see who took home the prizes! Related Artists T.I.

Nikki Jean – Million Star Hotel feat. Black Thought & Lupe Fiasco When we first heard Nikki, we thought she was another one of those foreigners who’s more than capable of running tings in the R&B world here in the States. But this one here is a homegrown talent. This is a leak from her new album “Pennies In A Jar” which you can buy here Ace Hood – Body 2 Body feat – Chris Brown Someone in an office somewhere felt like the ladies needed an introduction to the softer side of Ace Hood. We would beg to differ. We think the ladies were just fine with “Hustle Hard.” Nonetheless, here you go ladies. Gilbere Forte & Sean Rose – Dreaming Out Loud These two have a mixtape out together that we didn’t quite enjoy as much as we though we would have. But THIS SONG RIGHT HERE? It’s on a couple of playlists and likely to be on repeat in someone’s car tonight as they leave the office. Theophilus London – I Stand Alone Trinidad-born, Brooklyn-bred Theophilus L has been making waves in the music world over the last year or two. Black Thought Eager To Perform With Nas At Roots Picnic

See the original post:

The Roots will kick off Philadelphia’s annual celebration of Black Music Month with their fourth-annual Roots Picnic on June 4th. The event will take place at Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in the band’s hometown of Philadelphia, PA.  Black Thought, lead MC of The Roots spoke to TheUrbandaily.com about one of the Summers best shows.  “The Roots Picnic every year is unique,” he says of the eclectic mix of performers.  “[This year] we have the return of Esperanza Spalding , [who is] returning in her Grammy New Artist of the Year glory.” On the other end of the spectrum Black Thought also anticipates that fellow Pennsylvanian Wiz Khalifa , who is sure to give an energetic performance of his  Rolling Papers debut.  Other musicians and bands, such as Sweden’s Little Dragon and Man Man of Philly, will entertain the festival’s audience.  However, there will also be plenty for the hip-hop purist. “There’s always an element of The Roots Picnic that’s tailored to our [musical] tastes as The Roots,” says Thought. “And for me, that part of the festival is going to be doing the set with Nas. I look forward to that.” His Grammy award-winning band will back Nas during his performance at the picnic.  Even though the band and Nas have previously collaborated on unreleased material, Black Thought hopes that The Roots will record with Nas again soon. The Roots have been busy as the house band for “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” but are already working on their next album. The group members are tossing around creative concepts and a core idea for the upcoming project, which will be their tenth studio album. Their manager Rich Nichols allowed TheUrbandaily to preview some “roughs” on his iPod and from the sound of things, the time working on the show continues to pay off for the group. Their first Fallon-era project, 2010′s How I Got Over , is considered by many to be their best work. “The band is actually physically together for ‘x’ amount of hours a day, five days a week, and it affords us the ability to collaborate on whatever we might come up with,” Black Thought explains. ” And the means with which to record it immediately and be able to catalog it and refer back to it at a later date.” While looking ahead, Black Thought takes time to look back in honor of Black Music Month.  He reflects on the recently deceased Gil Scott-Heron , who The Roots have toured with in Europe on various occasions. “Gil Scott and The Last Poets and what they brought to the table represents radical, youthful expression of the 60s and 70s.  In many ways, it kind of reflects what’s going on right now.  But it’s very different—there’s an innocence in what they were doing back then that I feel has been lost now.” Tarik’s words underline why we need to celebrate our artists while they are still with us, so any fan of The Roots should make their way to Festival Pier tomorrow afternoon to take in some of the best acts that Black Music has to offer. Jimmy Fallon’s “Dance Avenue” Spoofs “Soul Train” [VIDEO]

Here is the original post:

On last night’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon , Jimmy and the gang poked fun at Soul Train by showing a pre-taped sketch called “Dance Avenue” that spoofed the legendary Soul Train Line. Jimmy and members of Late Night ‘s house band, The Roots , participated in the sketch by donning Soul Train inspired costumes and dancing down the line.  The Roots’ ?uestlove , an admitted Soul Train geek, certainly had his hand in making this spoof as authentic as possible.  Keep an eye out for such Soul Train staples like a dancing Asian lady, and a random dancer wearing an E.T. costume.  Honorable mention definitely goes to The Roots’ Black Thought in his captain’s outfit. We also gotta give props for the song the band recorded specifically for the show, “Doing Lines,” an obvious double entendre referencing the Soul Train line and the ever-present 80′s drug of choice, cocaine.
