Baller Blocking Or Nah: NBA Will Reportedly Fine J.R. Smith For Every Game That He Doesn’t Cover Huge Leg Tattoo

(Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) J.R. Smith Could Face Heavy Fines For New Leg Tattoo A new tattoo that JR Smith got inked on his right calf this offseason could end up costing the Cleveland Cavs guard more than he bargained for. Smith posted on Instagram that the NBA has threatened fines for the Supreme (a New York-based streetwear company logo tat on his calf if he doesn’t cover it up for games during the 2018-19 season.     “NBA rules prohibit players from displaying any commercial logos or corporate insignia on their body or in their hair,” said league spokesman Mike Bass. This isn’t the first time the league locked down on players rocking logos. In 2013 the NBA made Iman Shumpert take out the Adidas logo shaved in his hair and also the league ruled that NBA legend Rasheed Wallace could not wear a temporary tattoo of a candy bar company during basketball games.     Smith claims he was not compensated for getting the Supreme tattoo. “People were like, ‘Are they paying you for it?’ and I was like, ‘No,’ so they were like, ‘What are you doing it for?’” Smith told Complex in August. “And I was like, ‘That’s who I am. That’s why I am who I am.’ It worked out.”

Bucks Assistant Kelvin Sampson Reportedly A ‘Legitimate’ Candidate For Cavs Coach

Well, after the initial reports of Kelvin Sampson-to-the-Cavs surfaced a few weeks ago, the Cavaliers coaching search had taken on much greater proportions as owner Dan Gilbert dangled a lifetime’s fortune in front Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. Now that Izzo’s declined the offer, however, the Cavaliers go back to square one. Hey there, Kelvin Sampson! According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer , it’s time to take Sampson seriously: The Cavs coaching situation is wide open at this point. He adds that Kelvin Sampson, formerly the coach at Indiana University and currently an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, is a legitimate candidate. It’s a throwaway note, but worth remembering. There are only so many “superstar” coaches out there, and until LeBron James commits to stay in Cleveland, it’s a longshot for the Cavs to land any of them. But in Sampson, the Cavs could land a well-respected coach for a modest salary, and he’s someone that’s likely to accept the job regardless of what James decides in two weeks. It’s still early, but don’t count out Kelvin.

Jay-Z Talks LeBron James, Cavaliers’ Loss

‘LeBron and the Cavs knew this was going to be a war and a tough series,’ Jay says of the Boston Celtics’ upset. By James Montgomery Jay-Z and LeBron James Photo: MTV News The morning after LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers were bounced from the NBA Playoffs — an exit that very well may have also punched the superstar’s ticket out of Cleveland, since he can opt out of his contract June 30 — Jay-Z, one of his closest friends (and part owner of the New Jersey Nets ), phoned in to Stephen A. Smith’s Fox Sports Radio program to weigh in on the situation. While Jay didn’t say where he thinks James will end up next season (though, thanks to his friendship with the King, and the salary-cap room the Nets have to work with, New Jersey seems to be a logical fit), he did give his take on the Cavs’ elimination at the hands of the Boston Celtics — which he didn’t find all that shocking, to be honest. “The first thing I would say is, never really underestimate the heart of a champion,” Jay told Smith. “Like, Boston just won a championship two years ago, and it was a great story for everyone to dismiss them and just say, ‘This is going to be an easy series.’ I think LeBron and the Cavs — because they’re basketball players, they’re not into media sensation — they knew this was going to be a war and a tough series. “I think Boston got healthy at the right time, and I think the fact that a lot of them were out a lot of the year, it kind of worked in their favor, because a lot of them are rested,” Jay continued. “They’re rested and they’re healthy at the right time, and this is a champion just two years ago. … So this is not like a 16 seed; this is a real team. And [Celtics point guard Rajon] Rondo is playing like [onetime Celtics star] Nate Archibald or somebody, man. Who is this guy?” Smith also grilled Jay on his relationship with new Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, an eccentric Russian billionaire who bought controlling interest of the team late last year (a deal that was approved by the NBA earlier this week). Jay said that he’s already met with Prokhorov and that he plans to play an “active” role in the rebuilding of the franchise. “I sat down with him, and we had a fantastic conversation, and there were things that I really wanted to make clear: that I wanted to be an active owner and this is something I really care about. It’s not just a name cachet for me,” Jay said. “It’s just a thing that I love. I love sports. Everybody was happy about what I was saying, so it looks like I’ll be taking a more active role in what’s going on. … Should be fun.” Do you think Jay-Z should lure LeBron to the Nets? What’s next for Lebron James?

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James looks back to the bench as they take on the Boston Celtics during the first half. The Cavaliers lost 94-85, putting James' future in question as he becomes a free agent this offseason. “A friend of mine told me, ‘I guess you’ve got to go through a lot of nightmares before you realize your dream.’ That’s what’s going on for me individually right now” -Lebron James said after his Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated in the NBA playoffs by the Boston Celtics. James is expected to to opt out of his contract and set off a free agency scramble. Other franchises, namely the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, have put themselves in incredible positions to lure LeBron either from a financial standpoint, or a personnel standpoint. Still, no matter what anyone said, the Cleveland Cavaliers had the highest chance of retaining perhaps the only player that has lived up to the hype of being the “next Michael Jordan”. For seven months, Cleveland sports fans have lived and died with the Cavs. Televisions in homes and bars have been tuned to Cavalier games, watching LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal and the rest compile the best regular season record in the NBA. But it’s the end of the road now, Lebron James could be be done in Cleveland after he and the Cavs got outplayed by the Boston Celtics in a 94-85 Boston win. It eliminated the Cavaliers from the playoffs, and it was the final game for which LeBron is under contract with Cleveland. “I want to win. That’s my only thing, my only concern,” he said in his postgame news conference. “I’ve always prided myself … it’s all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that. But at the same time, I’ve given myself options to this point.” In New York, 8 million people await that decision. James didn’t play like the world’s best player in this series, but he was much better last night. After a passive performance in the Cavs’ embarrassing 120-88 Game 5 loss, James had 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists last night. But he also had nine turnovers and was held to 8-of-21 shooting from the field. James hung around after the final buzzer to offer congratulations to the Celtics, something he failed to do when the Cavs were eliminated by the Magic in last year’s conference finals. Clearly, he has respect for these rivals. “They played an unbelievable series,” said James, who didn’t use his elbow injury as an excuse for his subpar play. “They had their game plan, they executed their game plan and they won the series, so I just gave them good luck in the next series and congratulations for winning this one.” James, who got little support from his teammates, was clearly agitated with their sloppy play last night. The scary thought for Clevelanders is that will be James’ last memory of this season. One has to wonder if the “New York Knicks” chants from the Garden crowd will prove prophetic, as the team is expected to be James’ most ardent pursuer. The two-time MVP gave no indications to where he’s headed. Where do you think will Lebron James land? What’s next for Lebron James? is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading
