There’s something to be said for making sure no one is able to hack into your computer, no matter if you are a high powered attorney or even just the ad copy guy at a newspaper in Wales. Pembrokeshire Enterprise Ad Snafu Unfortunately the Pembrokeshire Herald knows this all too well… now. They sent out their paper, well 20,000 copies of their paper, with a rather lewd edit to an Enterprise Rental Car advertisement. Instead of the usual “we’ll pick you up”, the ad expounded with “Free pick-up from your home, office, repair shop, and c–cksucking.” How’s that for service? Of course the newspaper immediately set out apologizing to their readers and have gone so far as to contact the police in the matter. Good luck Pembrokeshire Herald, I saw the episode of The Simple Life when Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie changed the Sonic sign to “1/2 price anal salty wiener bugers” and I’m pretty sure they didn’t even get fired.
A college student reached a $4.1 million settlement with the U.S. government after being abandoned in a DEA cell with no food, water or windows for days. Daniel Chong, DEA Reach Settlement Daniel Chong drank his own urine, hallucinated that agents were trying to poison him with gas through vents, and tried to carve a farewell message in his arm. It remained unclear how the situation occurred, and no one has been disciplined, said Eugene Iredale, an attorney for Chong. The DOJ is investigating. “It sounded like it was an accident … a really, really bad, horrible accident,” Chong said, putting it mildly to say the last, after a harrowing ordeal: Chong was taken into custody during a drug raid and placed in the cell in 2012 by a San Diego police officer authorized to perform DEA work on a task force. The officer told Chong he wouldn’t be charged, saying, “Hang tight, we’ll come get you in a minute,” Iredale said … and the door did not open for 4 1/2 days . Why? No one will say publicly, more than a year after the fact. A Justice Department spokeswoman confirmed the settlement was reached for $4.1 million but declined to answer other questions, as did the DEA. Now an economics student at the University of California-San Diego, Chong said he planned to buy his parents a house with the money he receives. Chong was a 23-year-old engineering student when he was at a friend’s house where the DEA found 18,000 ecstasy pills, other drugs and weapons. Chong was there to smoke marijuana, his attorneys said. He and eight other people were taken into custody, but authorities ultimately decided against pursing charges against him after questioning. Chong began to hallucinate on day three in the cell, he recalls. He eventually urinated on a metal bench so he could have something to drink. He also stacked a blanket, his pants and shoes on a bench and tried to reach an overhead sprinkler, futilely swatting at it in an attempt to set it off. Chong said he accepted the possibility of death, biting into his glasses to break them and using a shard of glass to carve “Sorry Mom” onto his arm. Eventually, after screaming and nearly passing out, 5-6 people found him covered in his feces in the cell at the DEA’s San Diego headquarters. Chong was hospitalized for five days, having suffered from dehydration, kidney failure, cramps and a perforated esophagus. He lost 15 pounds. The DEA issued a rare public apology, though it is still unclear what happened. U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday renewed his call for the DEA to explain the incident.
We’re glad he at least got something out the deal. Student Left In Cell For Five Days Awarded $4 Million According Mail Online The college student forgotten in a holding cell for five days without food or water, took a $4.1 million settlement from the Justice Department his lawyer announced Tuesday. 24-year-old University of California, San Diego student Daniel Chong was arrested on April 21, 2012 as part of a major drug bust. He was taken to county jail and subsequently forgotten in a cell for five days – starving and hallucinating. “It was an accident,” Mr Chong said in a news conference on Tuesday attended by KPBS, “a really bad, horrible accident.” Mr Chong’s attorney Eugene Iredale said that the Justice Department is still trying to figure out how Mr Chong slipped from their notice, but the inspector general still has no answers. The DEA did not have a system in place at the time on how to treat detainees, but has since installed camera in each of the cells and holds daily inspections. “What happened to Daniel should never happen to any human being on the face of the planet,’ Mr Ireland said in the press conference. ‘The government has recognized the profound suffering that Daniel underwent,’ he said. Mr Iredale said that no one has been disciplined for the drug bust, and that no criminal charges will be filed. The student originally planned to sue for $20million. Mr Chong said he is in good health back UC San Diego studying engineering. The engineering student was swept up as one of nine suspects in an April 21 drug raid that netted 18,000 ecstasy pills, other drugs and weapons. Seven suspects were taken to county jail, and another was released, but Mr Chong was somehow left behind, said Amy Roderick, a spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration. ‘Each suspect was interviewed in separate interview rooms, and frequently moved around between rooms and cells,’ Ms Roderick said. ‘The individual in question was accidentally left in one of the cells.’ Mr Chong said federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents told him he would be let go. One agent even promised to drive him home from the DEA field office in Kearny Mesa, he said. Instead, he was returned to a holding cell to await release. Mr Chong said he could hear the muffled voices of agents outside his five-by-10-foot windowless cell and the door of the next cell being opened and closed. It took him nearly five days at Sharp hospital to recover, he said. NBC News How do you forget about someone in a cell for five days? Can you say dropped the ball?
Rae Dawn Chong has issued a bizarre statement explaining her slam of Oprah Winfrey earlier this week, claiming it was all a compliment in context. In what context calling someone a “biotch” and/or a “field n–ger” could be considered positive things, however, remains an open question for now. Rae Dawn Chong defended herself on Facebook, though her explanation was as confusing at best, and issued a video statement as well. Watch: Rae Dawn Chong Statement on Oprah Controversy “OMG I wake up to TMZ highlighting comments I made on a radio show out of context,” she wrote as part of her two-pronged statement to TMZ . “I swear I did not JUST say O was a field N and I was making a point about America during slave times … and I stand behind what I said but out of context it is bad.” Ya think? “In context, I was actually complimenting Oprah,” Chong insists. “Do I have issues with Oprah? Yes. Am I perfect? No. Do I take back everything I said? No.” “Am in pain that it’s caused pain to me, to her? Yes.” So she’s in pain that this became a thing, basically. Long story short: Chong does NOT apologize, although she regrets using the N-word to describe her former co-star in The Color Purple … maybe. According to Rae Dawn, O is so uggers that she wouldn’t have qualified as a “house n–ger” but rather would have been “field n–ger” back in the day. In her explanation, she claims what she meant is Winfrey rose about all obstacles to get where she is, and should be praised … or something. Throughout the confusing video, Rae never really elaborates on how “field n–ger” is a compliment … or how calling her a fat, brown-nosing kiss-ass. Are we missing something? Or is RDC out of her mind? Here’s the original radio interview excerpt that she says was “taken out of context” below: Rae Dawn Chong RIPS Oprah
Five years after beating breast cancer, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts announced to a national audience today that she has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disorder that will require chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant. Roberts, holding back tears, told viewers that her older sister is “a virtually perfect match” and will serve as her donor. ABC has made public a letter Roberts wrote to GMA staffers , in which she says she learned of the disease “a few weeks ago, during a rather unpleasant procedure to extract bone marrow for testing. “I [then] received word that I would interview President Obama the next day. The combination of landing the biggest interview of my career and having a drill in my back reminds me that God only gives us what we can handle and that it helps to have a good sense of humor when we run smack into the absurdity of life.” Roberts plans to remain in her position while undergoing treatment, though she’ll miss a “chunk of time” later this summer for the transplant. Robin added that doctors have said her age and fitness levels should play a key role in successfully confronting the illness. The “bottom line,” according to Roberts? “I’ve been living with this diagnosis for awhile and will continue to anchor GMA. I love what I do and the people with whom I do it. Along with my faith, family and friends, all of you at ABC News give me the motivation and energy to face this challenge… I am going to beat this.”
Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame has prostate cancer, he revealed on CNN Saturday in an interview about his fight to help legalize marijuana. Chong, 74, explained that he noticed symptoms about eight years ago. Despite that, he was only diagnosed “about a month ago,” he added. “I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,” Tommy Chong revealed. “So [legalization of marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested.” He assured CNN that his cancer is a “slow stage one [that I’ve] had for a long time … I know it had nothing to do with cannabis; cannabis is a cure .” Chong quit smoking pot “for health reasons” a year ago, but ingests hemp oil at night “so I won’t be woozy all day … I’m taking it as medicine.” Along with pal Cheech Marin, Chong appeared in several Cheech and Chong films in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. The duo continue to tour as a comedy act. We wish him nothing but the best in his recovery. The same goes for Robin Roberts’ blood disorder , which the GMA host also just revealed. [Photo: WENN.com]
