Last June, Cheerios came under fire for airing an ad that featured a biracial family having breakfast. YouTube was actually forced to shut down its Comment section due to online bigots dropping terms such as “Nazis,” “troglodytes” and “racial genocide.” So how has the company responding? By running back the same actors in a spot that will premiere this Sunday during the Super Bowl. Good for Cheerios! Titled “Gracie,” the commercial stars a a black father, white mother, and biracial daughter and teases a new addition to the family. Actually, two new additions. February 14 will not mean chocolate, teddy bears and hand-holding for Justin Bieber. Not this year. The South Florida legal system has set Valentine’s Day as the singer’s arraignment date. He will answer to charges of DUI , resisting arrest and driving with an expired license on that date. Justin Bieber Arrested “Justin doesn’t have to be there,” says Ed Griffith, a Miami state attorney’s office spokesman. “He will plead not guilty and the process will begin.” The 19-year old star is currently on vacation with friends (and Chantel Jeffries !) in Panama and will have his case heard by Miami-Dade Judge William Altfield in the County Criminal Division. Bieber (along with R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff) were booked on Thursday after allegedly drag racing on a residential street, although new reports claim they weren’t going THAT fast… nor were they legally drunk. But those are issues for a court to decide. Volkswagen knows what makes a great Super Bowl commercial. It aired an all-time great in 2012 with The Dog Strikes Back . But the car company is going back to the drawing board this year for its big spot on Sunday. Literally. The German drawing board, to be exact. It’s a humorous commercial for its upcoming Super Bowl commercial, an accented German scientist says he has “developed an algorithm to make the ultimate commercial for your big American football festival.” It involves puppies. The extended version of Mercedes’ 2013 Super Bowl Commercial has been released, and does not lack for star power … starting with Willem Dafoe. As the Dark Lord himself, the actor offers one potential buyer the chance to have a CLA and all that goes with it. Notably walking the red carpet with Kate Upton. Challenging Usher to a dance-off, posing for magazine covers and generally making the girls swoon? Done, done, done. So will he sell his soul for a CLA? Mercedes Super Bowl Ad 2013 (Ft. Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe played a crazily estranged couple in Lars von Trier ‘s erotic/thriller/surreal Antichrist in 2009. And now, Dafoe is set to return to Von Trier’s latest, Nymphomaniac along with Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf , Christian Slater , Stellan Skarsgard and Uma Thurman . Others are joining the cast, while one big name has pulled out. Nicole Kidman had been rumored as another possible addition to the cast, but she has more regal obligations and cannot join, according to THR. Kidman, who played the lead role in von Trier’s Dogville is currently busy playing Grace Kelly in Olivier Dahan’s Grace of Monaco . Dafoe, meanwhile, will play a supporting role in the two-part erotic Nymphomaniac , which will be released in both a hardcore and soft core version. Dafoe is currently in Hamburg, starring in Anton Corbijn’s drama A Most Wanted Man . Von Trier veteran Udo Kier, who has taken part in a number of von Trier’s films including his most recent Melancholia has also joined the cast along with French actor Jean-Marc Barr ( Dogville ), Caroline Goodall ( Schindler’s List ), Kate Ashfield ( Shaun of the Dead ), Saskia Reeves ( Butterfly Kiss ) and Danish actor Omar Shargawi ( R ). In the film, Gainsbourg stars as Jo, a self-described nymphomaniac who reveals her story to an older bachelor played by Stellan Skarsgard. Rumors have flown over the summer whether named actors would take part in sexually explicit scenes, though porn-star “stand-ins” have also been rumored to be engaged on camera. The stirring 2009 documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty took us behind the scenes at Disney Animation to reveal what it’s like when good things happen to good people. But before that, there was The Sweatbox , the 2002 doc that exposed how bad things happen to good people at the notoriously demanding studio — a revelation that virtually ensured the film would never see the light of day. The crackdown worked once and may yet work in the future, but for now, YouTube has all 95 unfinished minutes available for a rare look. John-Paul Davidson and Trudie Styler were granted full access to the Disney process — the dark-arts cauldron comprising writers, directors, animators and executives — as it applied to the doomed project Kingdom of the Sun . The results featured below aren’t especially flattering (particularly to the executives), and Styler’s husband Sting walks his customary line between introspective and pretentious, but as a cautionary tale of snuffed-out Hollywood idealism alone, this one’s worth viewing.
