Continue reading here:

Source: Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty Some people exude star power even before they hit it big in Hollywood, and Jennifer Hudson is one of those people. Everyone knew J. Hud was destined for greatness after wowing Simon Cowell in 2004 with her American Idol audition. Just two years later, she snagged the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dream Girls  and hasn’t slowed down since. Despite how many acting roles Hudson snags, she’ll always be known for her phenomenally powerful vocals. In honor of her 36th birthday, check out our list  of Jennifer Hudson’s vocal performances that will give you chills. The time she received a standing ovation for her “I Will Always Love You” tribute to Whitney Houston at the 54th Grammy Awards.  (2012) The time she killed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. (2009) The time she was asked to sing Adele songs. Killed it! Let’s not forget her epic American Idol audition. (2004) Anytime she sings her rendition of Jennifer Holiday’s “And I Am Telling You,” you get chills. As a star of Broadway’s The Color Purple , J. Hud and her cast members gave an epic tribute to the late, great Prince with “Purple Rain” on the day of his passing. (2016) Her BET Awards tribute to Prince wasn’t too shabby either. Tony Awards 2016: Who Won?!?

The 2016 Tony Awards aired live from New York on Sunday night. Although host James Corden and company were forced to take a sobering tone due to the tragic Orlando shooting that took place in a gay nightclub just hours prior to the event. “Our hearts go out to all of those affected by this atrocity,” Corden said to open the ceremony, adding: “You’re not on your own. Rae Dawn Chong Defends Oprah Slam: It Was a Compliment in Context!

Rae Dawn Chong has issued a bizarre statement explaining her slam of Oprah Winfrey earlier this week, claiming it was all a compliment in context. In what context calling someone a “biotch” and/or a “field n–ger” could be considered positive things, however, remains an open question for now. Rae Dawn Chong defended herself on Facebook, though her explanation was as confusing at best, and issued a video statement as well. Watch: Rae Dawn Chong Statement on Oprah Controversy “OMG I wake up to TMZ highlighting comments I made on a radio show out of context,” she wrote as part of her two-pronged statement to TMZ . “I swear I did not JUST say O was a field N and I was making a point about America during slave times … and I stand behind what I said but out of context it is bad.” Ya think? “In context, I was actually complimenting Oprah,” Chong insists. “Do I have issues with Oprah? Yes. Am I perfect? No. Do I take back everything I said? No.” “Am in pain that it’s caused pain to me, to her? Yes.” So she’s in pain that this became a thing, basically. Long story short: Chong does NOT apologize, although she regrets using the N-word to describe her former co-star in The Color Purple … maybe. According to Rae Dawn, O is so uggers that she wouldn’t have qualified as a “house n–ger” but rather would have been “field n–ger” back in the day. In her explanation, she claims what she meant is Winfrey rose about all obstacles to get where she is, and should be praised … or something. Throughout the confusing video, Rae never really elaborates on how “field n–ger” is a compliment … or how calling her a fat, brown-nosing kiss-ass. Are we missing something? Or is RDC out of her mind? Here’s the original radio interview excerpt that she says was “taken out of context” below: Rae Dawn Chong RIPS Oprah

Bad Movies We Love: Shanghai Surprise

I tried so hard to find an Oprah-themed Bad Movie We Love this week. Bad news, my darlings: they’re all not good enough. Beloved is too boring, Native Son is too serious, and The Color Purple is too funny. (Trust me.) So I rallied and made big choices. This week I’m commemorating Tree of Life star Sean Penn’s filthy past and Oprah’s biggest finale guest : the ineffable, the insufferable, La Sleaza Bonita herself, Madonna. Read: THIS IS A GREAT DAY. And the movie is a legend among awful, latrine-stink cinema, a rancid little misfortune cookie called Shanghai Surprise . Or as I prefer to call it: Not-So-Fast Times with Frigid Wife .

Fantasia Barrino Sex Tape, Affair Alleged by Paula Cook

Fantasia Barrino received solid reviews for starring turn on Broadway in The Color Purple . But if new allegations prove correct, this won’t be the singer’s most memorable performance. According to court documents filed by a woman named Paula Cook, the former American Idol champion carried on an affair with Cook’s husband – and even made a sex tape with him! North Carolina television station WCNC uncovered the divorce papers, filed by Cook, which demand child support payments from estranged husband Antwaun and cite a relationship between him and Fantasia. Paula states the two started sleeping with each other in August 2009. Paula goes on to write: “Throughout the course of their adulterous affair… Defendant/Husband and Ms. Barrino have at times recorded their illicit activity.” She also claims that Fantasia once called her on the phone and taunted: “He don’t want you. Maybe the next time that you get a husband you’ll know how to keep him. That’s why he is here with me.” Rumors of an affair between Barrino and Antwaun Cook first surfaced late last year. They were the latest in a series of personal mishaps for the star, who has faced numerous financial problems, including foreclosure. On the plus, side, though, if a sex tape truly exists, she can peddle the heck out of it and make millions. Just call Montana Fishburne for advice, Fantasia.
