New MFA Investigation: Ohio Dairy Farm Brutality

Chilling undercover footage recorded during a new Mercy For Animals investigation exposes dairy farm workers sadistically abusing cows and young calves. Captured on hidden camera, the shocking scenes of abuse reveal a culture of cruelty at Conklin Dairy Farms in Plain City, Ohio. During a four-week investigation between April and May, MFA's investigator documented farm workers: o Violently punching young calves in the face, body slamming them to the ground, and pulling and throwing them by their ears o Routinely using pitchforks to stab cows in the face, legs and stomach o Kicking “downed” cows (those too injured to stand) in the face and neck – abuse carried out and encouraged by the farm's owner o Maliciously beating restrained cows in the face with crowbars – some attacks involving over 40 blows to the head o Twisting cows' tails until the bones snapped o Punching cows' udders o Bragging about stabbing, dragging, shooting, breaking bones, and beating cows and calves to death crow bar_edit.jpg After viewing the footage, Dr. Bernard Rollin, distinguished professor of animal science at Colorado State University, stated: “This is probably the most gratuitous, sustained, sadistic animal abuse I have ever seen. The video depicts calculated, deliberate cruelty, based not on momentary rage but on taking pleasure through causing pain to cows and calves who are defenseless.” Immediately upon completion of the investigation, Mercy For Animals contacted the City Prosecutor's Office of Marysville regarding the ongoing pattern of abuse at Conklin Dairy Farms. MFA is pushing for employees of the facility to be criminally prosecuted for violating Ohio's animal cruelty laws. The deplorable conditions uncovered at Conklin Dairy Farms highlight the reality that animal agriculture is incapable of self-regulation and that meaningful federal and state laws must be implemented and strengthened to prevent egregious cruelty to farmed animals. Although many of the abuses documented at Conklin Dairy Farms are sadistic in nature, numerous MFA undercover investigations at dairy farms, pig farms, egg farms, hatcheries and slaughterhouses have revealed that violence and abuse to farmed animals – whether malicious or institutionalized – runs rampant nationwide. Compassionate consumers can end their direct financial support of farmed animal abuse by rejecting dairy, and other animal products, and adopting a vegan diet. added by: animalia_libero

Sarah Jessica Parker gets more bang for her buck wearing her Nicholas Kirkwood peep-toe heels to an appearance on the David Letterman show just after wearing them to the Sex and the City 2 after party. We know in Tinseltown, they say to never wear the same thing twice. But when it looks that good, why not?

Slipknot’s Paul Gray Remembered Fondly In His Iowa Hometown

‘He was always a man of the people, and he never forgot his roots,’ Des Moines radio director tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Paul Gray Three days after Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in an Iowa hotel room, those who knew him are still struggling to make sense of everything that’s happened. It’s not an easy thing to do. Though he wasn’t born in Iowa, Gray was still very much a local boy made good, having moved to Des Moines as a child. And as Slipknot’s fame grew, he made it a point to remain loyal to the scene — and the city — that gave him his start in music. “It’s just been a feeling of complete and utter disbelief, and I think lot of people are still shell-shocked,” Andy Hall, music director at Des Moines’ Lazer 103.3, told MTV News on Wednesday (May 26). “Paul was not just a guy on a poster on somebody’s wall; he was a son, a brother, a bandmate and a friend. And he was a great human being. … Des Moines has a very tight-knit music community, and anyone in it will tell you that Paul was one of the most kind and warm-hearted people they’ve ever known. He was always a man of the people, and he never forgot his roots.” Hall moved to Des Moines 10 years ago, and Gray was one of the first people he became friendly with. He said that even though Slipknot were well on their way to becoming a massively successful metal act, the bassist still remained humble, approachable and downright friendly — to everyone. “He was always quick with a smile and a hug and a ‘How you doing, brother?’ But it didn’t matter if you were his friend of many years or someone he’d just met; he would be very gracious to everyone,” Hall said. “He was kind of an imposing guy, but if you came up to him, took the time to converse with him, you’d have realized what a nice, kind guy he was.” Long before Slipknot hit it big, Gray was an integral part of the Des Moines scene. As a founding member of the group — and the only bassist it every employed — he provided the backbeat at their earliest gigs, at local bars like the Safari Club. And though those shows paled in comparison to the big-budget rippers they’d go on to play, they were just as energetic and impactful. Even in their earliest incarnation, Slipknot possessed a will that was unmatched. “They were always part of the fabric of the local scene. … Initially, they were playing clubs and band battles. And from the very start, they believed so intensely in themselves, even when the show was simple and the masks were homemade,” said Des Moines Register columnist Kyle Munson, who spent a decade as the paper’s music critic. “Here was a band willing to put on a show. They believed in themselves from the beginning, and that was the difference. They would have a power-saw onstage, shooting sparks across the stage. The early songs would have little disco jazz riffs thrown in there with the growls. They were a hybrid from the start. … No one could foresee how far they’d go, but that belief always made them stand out.” And from those formative gigs, the rock monster the world would come to know as Slipknot was born. To folks like Munson, their success brought an immense amount of civic pride — a pride that’s definitely taken a hit in the days since Gray’s death. Seems everyone who ever met him, spoke to him or even sat in the back of a rock club, eyes agog, and watched him rip, will miss him. “He always seemed to be a gentle soul and a peacemaker within the band. That’s what I’ve been hearing from people,” Munson said. “He wasn’t gregarious like [frontman] Corey [Taylor] or outwardly philosophical like [percussionist] Shawn [Crahan]. He was more introverted. But anyone will tell you about the happiness in his voice, his smile. There was a quiet joviality to him.” Share your memories of Paul Gray and Slipknot in the comments below. ‘Sex And The City 2’ Wedding Is ‘Thrilling,’ Mario Cantone Says

‘Putting us together really officially makes us a part of the family,’ he tells MTV News of Anthony and Stanford. By Jocelyn Vena Mario Cantone Photo: MTV News What would a “Sex and the City” flick be without a wedding? While Kim Cattrall tricked us into thinking Samantha Jones would get hitched in “Sex and the City 2,” out Thursday, it’s actually onetime enemies Anthony and Stanford who decide to tie the knot this time around. And it’s certainly as fabulous and over-the-top as one would imagine it to be. But it might leave fans wondering: How did those two crazy kids end up together? “If you looked at the last movie, they were kind of setting it up,” Mario Cantone, who plays Anthony, told MTV News at the film’s NYC premiere Monday. “And I also think, you know what it does? It kills two birds with one stone. So putting us together really officially makes us a part of the family — the ‘Sex and the City’ family. “We hated each other,” Cantone continued. “Well, I hated him. But see, it’s not always about what’s on the outside. You look underneath!” The couple were not only joined by all their pals; they also got the one-and-only Liza Minnelli to perform at the reception. “Oh my God! She’s terrific in the movie,” Cantone said. “She sings and dances her ass off. It’s terrific! She’s amazing to watch. You weren’t there to see her nail every take. She was thrilling!” Kristin Davis, who plays Anthony’s bestie, Charlotte, said the wedding gave her the chance to wear her favorite outfit in the flick. “[I loved the] big, black Oscar de la Renta ball gown that I wear to the wedding,” she said. ‘DWTS’ Finalist Evan Lysacek Is ‘Not Somebody I’ll Root For’: Johnny Weir

Weir predicts Nicole Scherzinger will win ‘Dancing With the Stars’ finale tonight. By Jocelyn Vena Johnny Weir Photo: MTV News Cutthroat competition is a hallmark of Olympic figure skating. Who could forget that whole kneecap-whacking incident between Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan back in the mid-’90s? These days, the men are also proving to be highly competitive — on and off the ice. As figure skater and “Dancing With the Stars” finalist Evan Lysacek prepares for his last routine on Tuesday’s (May 25) show, fellow skater Johnny Weir has made it clear who he’ll be rooting for. “I don’t [Lysacek should win]. I think Nicole is much better,” Weir told MTV News Monday at the “Sex and the City 2” premiere in New York City. “Evan and I have kind of had a war of words over the past month or so, and he’s not somebody I’ll root for in anything. So, definitely no.” With Lysacek, Nicole Scherzinger and ESPN reporter Erin Andrews set to face off, Weir said he’ll cast his vote for the Pussycat Doll. Asked why he favored Scherzinger over his skating rival Weir responded: “She’s hotter.” But the skater known for his flashy ensembles noted that although Scherzinger seems to have the advantage, Lysacek does have an edge. “Evan’s a professional ice skater,” Weir said. “It’s kind of the same thing.” In the Nicole vs. Evan debate, it’s easy to forget that Andrews could also take home the disco-ball trophy. Still, Weir insisted the sports reporter isn’t really in the running. “No, it’s between Evan and Nicole,” he said. “And Nicole won’t fall down in a pair of seven-inch Louboutins. I think the others would.” Who do you think will win “DWTS?” Tell us in the comments! Ne-Yo Single ‘Beautiful Monster’ Debuts

The singer blends R&B pleasure with electro on new track from upcoming Libra Scale. By Jayson Rodriguez Ne-Yo Photo: Cody Smyth He promised something “a little different” for his next effort. Now, Ne-Yo has somewhat delivered on the vow he made when he spoke to MTV News earlier this year. The Grammy-winning singer’s new single, “Beautiful Monster,” from his forthcoming Libra Scale, arrived online on MySpace Music on Tuesday (May 25). Ne-Yo and producers Stargate have created another electro/Euro blend of R&B pleasure with the number. “She’s a monster, beautiful monster/ Beautiful monster, but I don’t mind,” Ne-Yo sings on the song’s chorus. “And I need her, said I need her/ Beautiful monster, but I don’t mind/ No, I don’t mind.” “Just know I’m doing something a little different this time around,” the singer explained back in March about his upcoming Libra. “Just be expecting that we’re gonna bring back entertainment — that’s what we’re gonna do. Yes, I’ve decided to make it the lifetime of the gentleman.” Ne-Yo was referring to his last album, Year of the Gentleman, the Rat Pack-inspired collection that spawned the hits “Closer,” “Single,” “Mad” and “Miss Independent.” The set debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and earned the Def Jam superstar a slew of Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year. For his follow-up, Ne-Yo has been mostly hush, keeping his list of collaborators close to the vest. Since his last release, he’s worked on projects by 50 Cent and Rihanna, and flirted with the idea of forming a supergroup with Fabolous and Ryan Leslie . What do you think about Ne-Yo’s new song? Does it best “Closer”? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Ne-Yo

Crystal Bowersox Will Win ‘American Idol,’ Howard Stern Predicts

‘I watch it religiously,’ says Stern, who has talked about wanting to replace Simon Cowell. By Jocelyn Vena Howard Stern Photo: MTV News For quite some time now, there have been rumblings that Howard Stern could replace Simon Cowell on “American Idol.” But does Stern even watch the show? Well, as it turns out, he does, and he has a pretty good idea of who he thinks will win this season, as the final two go head-to-head Tuesday night (May 25). “I watch it religiously. I believe Crystal Bowersox will win,” he said at the NYC premiere of “Sex and the City 2.” “I don’t think the show has been great this season. That’s why their ratings have dropped a little bit. The judges have been a little soft. I think it’s time to mix it up, make it a little more exciting again, but what do I know?” Stern could be the guy to mix things up a bit alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson. Though, he’s kind of torn about whether he’d even want to do it. “I don’t know if I’m going to be the next Simon Cowell,” he said. “Quite frankly, I think I’m a little more talented than that. I like Simon. I think he’s great, but I tend to do more than break people’s hearts, their dreams. I really don’t think that’s my kind of job, but for that kind of money, I’d do it.” Stern said his plate is already pretty full. “I don’t think they can get me, ’cause I’ve got a radio show. I’ve got Howard TV. That keeps me very busy, and quite frankly, judging a bunch of kids singing, I mean … what am I going to do?” So if not Stern, then who? “I really would have no idea. Ellen DeGeneres, I think she’s proven she’s a nice talk-show host, [but] she doesn’t offer anything,” he said about this season’s rookie judge. What about Paula Abdul then? “Paula Abdul should do something, ” he quipped. Do you think Crystal will win? Do you think Howard should join “Idol”? Tell us in the comments! The Greeks Get It

Here’s to the Greeks. They know what to do when corporations pillage and loot their country. They know what to do when Goldman Sachs and international bankers collude with their power elite to falsify economic data and then make billions betting that the Greek economy will collapse. They know what to do when they are told their pensions, benefits and jobs have to be cut to pay corporate banks, which screwed them in the first place. Call a general strike. Riot. Shut down the city centers. Toss the bastards out. Do not be afraid of the language of class warfare—the rich versus the poor, the oligarchs versus the citizens, the capitalists versus the proletariat. The Greeks, unlike most of us, get it. The former right-wing government of Greece lied about the size of the country’s budget deficit. It was not 3.7 percent of gross domestic product but 13.6 percent. And it now looks like the economies of Spain, Ireland, Italy and Portugal are as bad as Greece’s, which is why the euro has lost 20 percent of its value in the last few months. The few hundred billion in bailouts for other faltering European states, like our own bailouts, have only forestalled disaster. This is why the U.S. stock exchange is in free fall and gold is rocketing upward. American banks do not have heavy exposure in Greece, but Greece, as most economists concede, is only the start. Wall Street is deeply invested in other European states, and when the unraveling begins the foundations of our own economy will rumble and crack as loudly as the collapse in Athens. The corporate overlords will demand that we too impose draconian controls and cuts or see credit evaporate. They have the money and the power to hurt us. There will be more unemployment, more personal and commercial bankruptcies, more foreclosures and more human misery. And the corporate state, despite this suffering, will continue to plunge us deeper into debt to make war. It will use fear to keep us passive. We are being consumed from the inside out. Our economy is as rotten as the economy in Greece. We too borrow billions a day to stay afloat. We too have staggering deficits, which can never be repaid. Heed the dire rhetoric of European leaders. “Modern totalitarianism can integrate the masses so completely into the political structure, through terror and propaganda, that they become the architects of their own enslavement,” he wrote. “This does not make the slavery less, but on the contrary more— a paradox there is no space to unravel here. Bureaucratic collectivism, not capitalism, is the most dangerous future enemy of socialism.” (More @ Link) added by: Omnomynous
