‘Sex And The City 2’ Premiere Prompts Stars To Play ‘Which Character Are You?’

Whitney Port, Mario Cantone and others pick whether they identify most with Carrie or her friends. By Jocelyn Vena Whitney Port at the “Sex and the City 2” premiere Monday Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Sure, the big debate on the red carpet of the “Sex and the City 2” premiere was all about Mr. Big vs. Aidan Shaw, but the stars who turned out to celebrate the flick were also eager to play a little round of “Which character are you?” with MTV News. While, Carrie Bradshaw was the popular choice, some others felt they were really a combination of all four of the women. “I think I relate to Carrie probably the most,” “The City” star Whitney Port told MTV News before the big premiere, which took place at Radio City. “Because I think career-wise [we have a lot in common], like the path that she took.” Mario Cantone may play Charlotte’s best gay friend Anthony in the series and movies, but he doesn’t see himself as a Charlotte. “It’d probably be Samantha, ’cause I’m a slut!” Figure skater Johnny Weir was hesitant to choose a character. “You know what? I’m a combination,” he said at first. “I’m very uptight at times like Charlotte. I’m dirty like Samantha, at times. But overall, I’d say I’m Carrie. I bring my clique of friends all together. I’m the center.” Leave it to talk-show personality Wendy Williams to articulate what makes her the perfect combination of all the ladies. “I totally am a reasonable combination of all of them,” she said. “Carrie is fun to watch, but I’m too frugal to be Carrie. She always lived way beyond her budget. That’s scary to me. Samantha is too loose to be older. … Miranda is, at times, too scared of men, and I’m not. And Charlotte is looking for the perfect man, and he doesn’t exist.” Which “Sex and the City” star do you relate to most? Tell us in the comments! By Jocelyn Vena John Corbett Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Fans have always been torn between the main men of “Sex and the City”: Mr. Big and Aidan Shaw . ‘Lost’ Finale Wins Sunday Ratings Race

Sci-fi swan song beats ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ but fails to match the success of other hyped-up series closers By Josh Wigler Fans watch ‘Lost’ Finale Series in Times Square Photo: Getty Images On “Lost,” there’s a sequence of numbers that must be avoided at all costs: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. But those numbers weren’t the most important digits when it came to Sunday night’s series finale — that all-important figure is closer to 13.5 million, the number of viewers who tuned in to the episode, appropriately titled “The End.” The pre-finale clip show, “Lost: The Final Journey,” garnered 9.8 million viewers, while the post-show edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” featuring interviews with castmembers and comedic alternate endings, attracted 3.4 million viewers. Although the 13.5 million fans who watched the finale made up a strong enough audience to propel “Lost” to its best-rated episode in two years and well past the season finale of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” it still wasn’t a fantastic result, given the numbers the series was used to at its peak. During the show’s first season, “Lost” averaged nearly 16 million viewers and subsequently declined to 11 million during season five. The pilot episode of “Lost” yielded a massive 18.6 million viewers. Additionally, the “Lost” finale fell short in comparison to other similarly hyped series finales including “M.A.S.H.” (121.6 million), “Seinfeld” (76.3 million) and “Friends” (52.5 million), while barely edging out the finales for HBO’s cable offerings “The Sopranos” (11.9 million) and “Sex and the City” (10.6 million). Despite a relatively lackluster viewership, the series finale performed rather admirably, given that the show’s audience dwindled so dramatically over the course of its run, a fact that has been blamed on an increasingly complicated continuity and tough-to-crack story line. Why do you think the “Lost” audience dwindled over its six-season run? Let us know in the comments! Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato Dish On New Seasons of ‘JONAS,’ ‘Sonny’

‘We take the band and move it out to L.A.,’ Joe says of a change of scenery on the Disney Channel show. By Jocelyn Vena Jonas Brothers Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News The Jonas Brothers are taking their show on the road this summer. The guys have given the next installment of “JONAS” a new name: “JONAS L.A.” The JoBros are trying their luck in the City of Angels, and they think fans will enjoy the change of scenery. “We’re excited for the TV show to come out. It’s something we’ve been working on since February and looking forward for everyone to be seeing it,” Joe told MTV News about the show, premiering in June. “We take the band and move it out to L.A., where we’re all trying to do different, individual projects.” While the plot of the show seems vaguely influenced by real-life events ( Joe recently teased that he and his brothers are working on solo projects), fans might be surprised by the new format of the show. “I think what’s really neat is it’s the first time the Disney Channel is doing a continuous story line,” Kevin added. “Every episode is ‘Next time, on “JONAS” ‘ or ‘Last time on “JONAS.” ‘ It allows the characters to grow and you follow them through relationships, the good and the bad.” Like the JoBros, tourmate Demi Lovato is also looking forward to finding love on her show, “Sonny With a Chance.” “There’s definitely more romance this season finally between Chad and Sonny,” she said of the show, which kicks off this summer. “So you can see how that evolves with the cast of ‘So Random,’ how they react to Chad and Sonny’s new flame.” She also said fans should look forward to Joe Jonas making a cameo this season, as well as Raven-Symon

‘I think the tutu in Paris,’ Sarah Jessica Parker tells MTV News of Carrie’s dress in last episode of ‘Sex and the City.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Sarah Jessica Parker in “Sex and the City 2” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures When “Sex and the City” opened in 2008, many fans of the show went to screenings decked out like their favorite characters from the show — Carrie Bradshaw’s flower pins and Manolo Blahniks were must-wear accessories. Now, with fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of “Sex and the City 2,” due Friday, MTV News caught up with the “SATC” ladies and asked them to pick their most memorable TV/film looks. Cynthia Nixon Nixon had trouble remembering the many outfits she’d worn over the years: “Favorite outfit of all time? I have no idea!” Kim Cattrall “Oh, God, favorite outfit? I love the hat in the first movie, that just glorious, that huge hat that I had. Some of my favorite scenes [were] going down the pole in the fireman [episode]. That whole episode was just so much fun to do.” Kristin Davis “Do you know how many thousands and thousands of outfits we have worn? I’m going to go with the Vera Wang, the first poofy wedding dress, because I would never choose such a thing in my life,” Davis said, referring to Charlotte’s gown during her wedding to Trey. “It was so quintessentially Charlotte and so deliciously foofy and Vera Wang that I’m going to go with that. And there’s a favorite picture from that: when we walk out of the church and they threw the rose petals.” Sarah Jessica Parker “I think the tutu in Paris, in that final montage of her and Big finally getting back together,” Parker said. Fans, of course, remember that lavish, over-the-top tutu from the series’ last episode. What’s your all-time favorite “Sex and the City” outfit? Tell us in the comments! It May Be a Bit Worse Than We Were Led To Believe…

Washington (CNN) — The “top kill” method intended to stop the runaway flow of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico probably will be tried early next week, BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said Friday. In the procedure, thick, viscous fluid twice the density of water will be pumped at a high rate into the site of the leak to stop the flow so that it can then be sealed with cement, Suttles said. “Our best estimate is probably Tuesday,” he said, noting that the operation has never been tried in such deep water. Also on Friday, a top scientist told a congressional panel that the damaging effects of the massive Gulf spill will be felt all the way to Europe and the Arctic. “This is not just a regional issue for the wildlife,” said Carl Safina, the president of the Blue Ocean Institute. Safina, who recently returned from the Gulf Coast region, presented several photographs, including one of an oil-covered bird. “There will be a nest empty in Newfoundland,” Safina said, noting common migratory patterns. Safina warned that multiple forms of marine life in the Atlantic Ocean “come into the Gulf to breed.” Safina's briefing to representatives of the House Energy and Commerce Committee was scheduled as part of an ongoing effort to draw on a broad range of expertise for cleanup efforts. “We have to use science to find solutions,” said Rep. Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts. Markey has been strongly critical of the current cleanup effort, calling it ineffective. Meanwhile, another congressman, concerned about people who are working to clean up the spill, has asked the White House to set up temporary health care centers along the Gulf Coast to serve volunteers and workers. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Louisiana, envisions such clinics as providing “medical checkups to people who have come in contact with the oil and assist in monitoring the health effects of the oil leak on south Louisianians.” He sent the request Wednesday to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. There was no immediate response from the agency. “Many residents and volunteers are being exposed to hazardous materials on a daily basis, and some will have to travel hours to get treatment at the nearest health care facility. It is imperative that temporary health care clinics be established to provide basic health care services in this geographic area,” he said. He has also asked Sebelius to “appoint a health care coordinator to oversee and streamline the health care response.” Melancon emphasized that BP should be responsible for such health care services in his state. The energy giant was operating the oil rig that exploded and sank in April, triggering the spill. On Thursday, BP acknowledged that the underwater gusher is bigger than estimated to date, as new video showed a cloud of crude billowing around its undersea siphon. Company spokesman Mark Proegler said Thursday that the siphon is now drawing about 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) per day up to a ship on the surface of the Gulf — as much as government and company officials had estimated the spill was pouring into the Gulf every day for a month. Proegler declined to estimate how much more oil was escaping. BP America Chairman Lamar McKay said Wednesday that the figure used by the oil spill response team had a degree of “uncertainty” built into it. But figures by independent researchers have run up to many times higher: Steve Wereley, a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, told CNN's “American Morning” that the spill could be as big as 20,000 to 100,000 barrels a day. And members of Congress released video from the company that showed much more oil pouring out of the damaged well than the siphon was capturing. Rep. Ed Markey, who leads a House subcommittee investigating the disaster, told reporters, “I think now we are beginning to understand that we cannot trust BP.” “People do not trust the experts any longer,” said Markey, D-Massachusetts. “BP has lost all credibility. Now, the decisions will have to be made by others, because it is clear that they have been hiding the actual consequences of this spill.” Meanwhile, the Coast Guard announced the creation of a federal Flow Rate Technical Group to assess the flow rate from the well. Coast Guard Capt. Ron LaBrec said that Adm. Thad Allen would oversee the team, which will include members from the Coast Guard, the Minerals Management Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Energy, the U.S. Geological Society and others from the science community and academia. The peer-reviewed team, which has already begun its work, is to determine the flow rate from the beginning of the incident to the present, LaBrec said. The Obama administration announced Thursday that it has ordered BP to release all data related to the massive spill, including environmental sampling analyses, internal investigation reports and details of the cleanup effort. In a letter to BP Group CEO Tony Hayward, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson told BP to post that information on a website and update it daily. “The public and the United States government are entitled to nothing less than complete transparency in this matter,” they concluded. The spill began with an April 20 explosion and fire that sank the drill rig Deepwater Horizon two days later. Eleven workers were lost with the rig, which was owned by drilling contractor Transocean and hired by BP. The resulting slick now threatens the coastal marshes of southeastern Louisiana, where brown, syrupy oil made it past protective booms and into the wetlands near the mouth of the Mississippi River on Wednesday. Over the weekend, BP inserted a piece of pipe into the larger of the two leak points and began drawing oil from the undersea gusher, located about a mile underwater, up to a ship on the surface. It also has been laying booms out along barrier islands and spraying hundreds of thousands of gallons of chemical dispersants on the surface and near the sources of the leak. But that element of the response came under new fire as well on Thursday, as the EPA ordered BP to find a less toxic chemical to use to break up the oil. The EPA gave the company a day to pick a new substance and three days to start using it instead of the current dispersant, known as Corexit 9500. The chemical has been rated more toxic and less effective than many others on the list of 18 EPA-approved dispersants, according to testimony at a congressional hearing Wednesday. “Because of its use in unprecedented volumes and because much is unknown about the underwater use of dispersants, EPA wants to ensure BP is using the least toxic product authorized for use,” the agency said in a statement announcing the order. “We reserve the right to discontinue the use of this dispersant method if any negative impacts on the environment outweigh the benefits.” added by: ignignokt

Woman opens fire on religious police in "unprecedented outburst"

FROM THE ARTICLE: A married woman shot at several officers in a patrol car after she was caught in an “illegal seclusion” with another man in the province of Ha'il on Tuesday. “She shot at the officers to distract them and allow the man to escape instant detention,” said Sheik Mutlak al Nabet, a spokesman for the religious police in Ha'il. He added that the unnamed woman's husband has filed an official report, asking for his wife to be punished and stripped of her Saudi nationality. Saudi law forbids women to socialize with unrelated men or walk in public without a male guardian, other than her husband, father or brother. Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, known as the religious police, are tasked with segregating the sexes. Saudi media report that the woman is Syria-born and recently obtained Saudi citizenship after living for years in the kingdom. Her male compatriot is still at large. The incident occurred only few days after the Saudi daily newspaper, Okaz, reported that a religious cop was taken to hospital with bruises after being punched by a woman in her 20s in the city of Al Mubarrazz. “People are so fed up with these religious police, and now they have to pay the price for the humiliation they put people through for years and years,” she said. “This is just the beginning and there will be more resistance.” http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2010/05/saudi-arabia-woman-opens-f… added by: grassroutes

Drake Reps H-Town ‘Till The Day I Die’ On Away From Home Tour

The Toronto MC brings out Houston rap luminaries Bun B, Lil Keke, Trae Tha Truth and others. By Cynithia Allen Drake (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Drake did the Texas two-step this week, bringing his Away From Home Tour to Dallas on Wednesday, and the next day, to Houston, where he closed out his initial run of U.S. dates. The 23-year-old Toronto MC’s show was highly anticipated in H-Town, a city Drake gave props to on “November 18th,” off the Chopped N Screwed version of his So Far Gone mixtape. He opened Thursday night’s show at Houston’s Verizon Wireless Theater with his club banger “Over,” whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Drizzy told his fans that “only three things matter at this time: Number one, I’m Drizzy Drake. Two, I’m part of the hottest team in the game right now — Young Money/ Cash Money. Finally, I rep H-Town till the day I die.” The Grammy-nominated artist showed his respect for the City of Syrup with a performance of the aforementioned “November 18th,” which true Houstonians know was inspired by the Screwed Up Clique’s late-90s posse cut “June 18.” One of the Clique’s original members, Lil Keke, was on hand to deliver his verse from the ensemble track. And the Houston rap scene was amply represented at the concert: In addition to Keke, Drake brought out Houston luminaries Z-Ro, Trae Tha Truth and the Underground King himself, the timeless Bun B. Cash Money’s Birdman, who has made appearances on several dates of the tour, came through for “Money to Blow,” and then performed the Big Tymers hit “Still Fly.” The theater seemed to shake to the rafters as the excited crowd began reciting lyrics — “Gator boots with the pimped-out Gucci shoes.” The stage was then turned over to Young Money members Gudda Gudda and Lil Twist, who came out to assist on “Bed Rock.” The show continued with the lovemaking theme on “A Night Off,” which saw Drake bring out a microphone whose stand was covered in female undergarments. The ladies went berserk, throwing bras and panties at the dynamic MC, a practice that has become a ritual at every Away From Home show. In an interview Drake gave to CNN , he said he was attempting to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most bras thrown at a performer during a single show. When Drake chose a 27-year-old Houston fan to join him onstage, he warned her that anything could happen, including licking, sucking or kissing. No one seemed to be left disappointed at this show. And while he may not have been given the key to the City of Syrup, Drake proved he already has the town on lock. Are you planning to see Drake in Concert now that he’s added more dates to his tour?
