Even from outside, I could tell that I wasn’t stepping into your ordinary vintage jewelry spot. When I entered, I felt like embraced, not only by the woman who greeted me at the door, but also by the atmosphere. There were splashes of pink, lots of gold, and the sounds of women fawning over shining jewels. The woman behind this dream of a shopping experience is Tenisha Light-Caba. The entrepreneur, who stood in the midst of all of the excitement in a jean Fenty dress , lucite heels and her own vintage Chanel earrings and gold link bracelets fashioned into anklets, started the business in 2010. However, she has been selling vintage jewelry since she was a kid living in California. “I had rummage sales every weekend, making money selling my grandmother’s jewelry,” she told me. “Then it became my chore to clean another grandmother’s jewelry. Nowadays, Tenisha works with private collectors who’ve been in the business for decades to pull together her one-of-a-kind collection, which she’s been able to put in her new store located in The Oculus , otherwise known as Westfield World Trade Center in Manhattan. “I tend to like to work with the same people. This is how I’m able to get my hands on the good stuff. I take care of them, they take care of me,” she said. “They have a lot. They have more than what I could ever afford to buy. Where they get it from? Who knows.” Her collection has expanded greatly, taking her from her early beginnings of selling in a brownstone, moving on to Chelsea Market, to eventually having her own space, one of the few minority-owned businesses in the Oculus. “We first started our business in a historic brownstone in Brooklyn,” she said of her journey. “I’ve never had the space. I’ve usually worked at an artisan market. This is the biggest space I’ve ever had. This gives me a chance to really shine, have lighting and really make it my own.” It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s been a successful one. During her days working at markets like Artists & Fleas and Top Shop on 5th Avenue, Tenisha broke records for her sales. “I worked,” she said. “I put the work in. It’s been so many things that happened in the world over the past 10 years and in that time, I’ve had my business full time. I’m independently funded. I don’t have investors. Items from big name fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel, as well as daintier, unique items from all over. The good news is, everything is affordable, but there are items specific to every wallet. For instance, she has inexpensive earrings and necklaces from the ’70s, her “Dainty” and “Re.Fresh” collections. They are old stock that she received from a collector who had a wholesale business in the 1970s, and she replated everything to give it a fresh look. They are being sold between the $20-$40 range. The wide-ranging prices are part of Tenisha’s hope to make people from all walks vintage fans — and welcome when they visit Brooklyn Bleu. “I want people to feel welcomed, to feel like they’re at home. I want them to feel comfortable and good — just as good when they leave,” she said. “That’s the experience they get when they walk through the door, that’s how people treat them, that’s courtesy. That’s being professional and knowing what you have to offer as well. I have to train and work really hard with my staff too so they can pass on that same experience.” She also wants people to know that Brooklyn Bleu will be flexible. Especially at the cost. “It’s important to offer pieces that are accessible and vintage,” she said. “When I go to a place and it feels like everything is just too expensive, it’s like, ‘I thought I was making good money! I can’t even afford this.’ I didn’t ever want people to feel that in here — and they don’t. We have customers who take four and five pieces. According to BuzzFeed News , Forever 21 drew the ire of many of their loyal plus-sized customers when they discovered diet Atkins bars packed inside their orders. Here’s what Ganiella Garcia said about her experience: “I opened the bag and took the clothes out. Everything was fine. And then when I was trying things on, at the bottom there was a card and there was an Atkins bar in a little bag,” she told BuzzFeed News. “It was very insulting, and honestly, I like shopping at Forever 21 — but I don’t feel comfortable buying clothes from a company that thinks I shouldn’t be the size that I am,” Garcia said. She was not the only angry shopper. The movie was such a huge deal for young Americans when it hit theaters; but if watched by young adults today, they’d have a totally different reaction to some of those gruesome scenes. That’s a sexual crime lawsuit waiting to happen. With so many powerful, life changing movements shifting the climate today , (and a culture of people being offended by the smallest thing) there’s not much room to express oneself fully without offending someone. R ick James ‘ daughter apparently knows how to party and her neighbors aren’t happy. They complained after a house party, according to them, had drugs, alcohol and semi-nudity. See Also: Outrageous! They called the police and complained of drugs, alcohol, semi-nudity and up to a thousand people showing up. WSB-TV reports one resident named Amy Baker complained, “We called the police and told them there were people walking through the neighborhood with open containers of alcohol and with drugs. And they told us they could not do anything about that. They said, ‘We have to see it.’” Another resident named Katherine Schendel said, “There was a lot of seminudity and drugs and alcohol out in the streets. There were cars parked all up and down our street. On both sides of our street, potentially blocking emergency vehicles from getting through.” She also claimed to have “checked and the county does not show a permit for a public event at the house.” The next party is allegedly scheduled for Labor Day, which they want to stop. “We’re concerned about our property values. They don’t need to be walking down the middle of the street in thongs and smoking dope,” Schendel said. Gwinnett police are meeting with residents and looking into their complaints. 11 Alive reports, “The owner of the property, Ty James, said no one was arrested, and there was no reason to call police. She said no one was charged to attend, and the party was open to the public, so they neighbors should have stopped by. ” James did not want to go on camera but maintained her guests were respectful. E lijah Al-Amin was a 17-year-old who was fatally stabbed by 27-year-old Michael Paul Adams. The child was killed all because he was listening to hip hop music. Now, the attorney for Adams is using the excuse that he was “disabled.” See Also: Outrageous! Figurines Of White Cherub Crushing Head Of Black Angel Removed From Dollar Store His attorney Jacie Cotterell told Good Evening Arizona , “This is a disabled person and he’s been released into the world and left to fend for himself, two days later — this is where we are.” She claims the department of corrections failed “Elijah with no resources or psychiatric help even though he had a past of severe mental illness.” However, being disabled or mentally ill does not make you a white supremacist. Court records say that Adams admitted he killed the 17-year-old because rap music made him feel “unsafe” and he was being “proactive, not reactive” but killing the chid. He believed rap was a threat to himself and his community. On Thursday, July 4, Al-Amin got off work from Subway around 11:30 p.m. and visited his girlfriend. While at a a gas station in Peoria, Arizona, he was stabbed by Adams around 1:45 a.m. He was about to turn 18 in less than two weeks Elijah’s father told KVOU, “2 o’clock came, 3 o’clock came, 4 o’clock came, I kept calling, calling, calling, texting, texting, texting, and I wasn’t getting a response. I just had a feeling that something wasn’t right.” He continued, “ You took a helluva kid… He was a good kid, very good kid, always willing to help kids, help people in general.” Michael Adams was booked on a first-degree murder charge. Watch his father below: The mentally ill excuse for white people who kill Black people is an ongoing theme. In July of 2018, 18-year-old Nia Wilson was killed by James Cowell. Shortly after the tragedy, his family released a statement with the “mentally ill” excuse. The statement read in part, “John has been suffering from mental illness most of his life. He has been in & out of Jail & has not had the proper treatment.” As of April , Cowell’s criminal case has been suspended to evaluate his mental competency. We hope Elijah Al-Amin gets justice. M ore details are coming out about Nipsey Hussle who was fatally shot on March 31 outside of his Marathon Clothing store. Sadly, his final words were, “You got me,” to the alleged killer, 29-year-old Eric Holder , according to court docs. Hussle’s final words were, “You got me.” The Los Angeles Times also reports on Thursday, “The grand jury panel returned a six-count indictment charging Holder with one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in lieu of $6.5-million bail. If convicted, he faces life in state prison. He has pleaded not guilty.” According to the transcripts, Holder was upset over snitching accusations. The New York Daily News reports, Deputy District Attorney John McKinney said, “Mr. Holder got out of the car, immediately walked up to the group where Mr. Hussle, or Mr. Asghedom was, and they had a conversation. That conversation is important because that conversation had something to do with Mr. Asghedom accusing Mr. Holder of snitching, which in the gang world is a very serious offense.” According to testimony from witness Herman Douglas, Hussle allegedly said, “Man, you know, they got some paperwork on you.” Douglas also testified, “Nipsey was more or less trying to, trying to look out for the dude, was trying to help him. Like basically warning the dude, like, you know, ‘They got some paperwork on you. I haven’t read the paperwork, but you know, you got to watch your back.’” Holder reportedly got frustrated and asked Nipsey if he ever snitched. Hussle “calmly waved Holder off” according to a woman who was with the alleged killer. Holder left but came back soon after and killed the rapper. Holder was a failed rapper whose street name was Shitty Cuz. The 29-year-old was arrested on April 2. He was found in Bellflower, California, which is located in southeast Los Angeles. He has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
